Yea, they were turned up some. I know you are both more or less correct about this, but trying to balance it for the fans in front might be nice too. I guess that is too much to ask. You can either be upfront and be with the peeps or be in the back and hear things better. Its a trade off. LouieB

Actually I asked Wendy who was sitting in the balcony and she said it was rather minimal there too. I understand the sound isn't as good in front where the guitar amps are. It is fun to be upfront, but sadly the sound mix is predicated on how it sounds in back. LouieB

No kidding....Neko always is good in person: Cat Power recently played Chicago and while I didn't go, she got a rather lackluster review, apparently having problems getting it going most of the show. Neko is always on and rarely disappoints. LouieB

Both great. I would start with Tommy and go to Quadraphenia. I remember listening to Quadraphenia for the first time with my old friend Joe sometime in the 70s. Been listening to Tommy since it came out as well. There are still points in both (both songs and intrumentals) that are some of the best stuff ever done. I saw this tour too and it was fun. Both had movies made of them which are fun to see also. LouieB

Actually I have always wanted a keyboard solo or two. More recently that has sort of happened, but not really. LouieB

He played with them last night.....that was great. This was the end of what seems to have been a fairly short tour and it was quite a night. And to think I nearly blew this one off too.... It was kind of like a meeting of the tribes and pulling out a bunch of oldies (as well as some new stuff.) Tim's set was good, beginning with the Everly Brothers (thanks Jen) and ending with Tom Rush. This was one of those shows that was magical all the way through, since it could have been fairly routine, but Jeff showing up and playing as much as he did (far more than I thought he would) made it exc

Yea and their regular gig is with Wilco so why not??? These are two guys who will have (or in Nels case continue to have) great careers with or without Wilco. (Actually Glenn wasn't doing too badly prior to Wilco either...) LouieB

I am busting everyone's balls here and not offended in the least.... The fact is, which 4 star album from the last RS would you likely invest in?? John Mayer Continuum or TV on the Radio?? Just from the review I would buy TV on the Radio sight unheard. John Mayer I have heard over the years and there is no fucking way.... At least TV on the Radio, though in fact I may not like it, sounds like it has something original going for it. (If they gave Eric Clapton FIVE stars I wouldn't buy that either....) LouieB

Well ....sure... I am sure John Mayer's semi-adult contempory easy listening is fairly comparable to Eric Clapton's geriatric semi-contemporary easy listening. Both of their work is pleasant and inoffensive. No reason not to listen to it, but after reading about him nothing exactly makes me want to hear it. Then again I grew up walking 10 miles through 6 feet of snow listening to Eric Clapton and I don't particularly want to listen to him either. LouieB

Bob Dylan is a prick, but but then again he is Bob Dylan, not John Mayer. That article wasn't that great either by the way (I get RS free from buying something at Best Buy, not because I think it is a good magazine.) Most of that article was fairly unremarkable. it was not an interview with questions and answers it was the guy writing about what Dylan said. (The first RS I ever bought had a Dylan interview, but then this was 1969 and it was a real interview). Last night i finished the article in RS.....another revelation, Mayer likes reading about blues figures but never finishes a book. He got to chapter 3 in BB King's autobiography where he talks about sleeping with hundreds of women, then goes on to describe his own encounters with female fans......heavy duty stuff.... LouieB

As far as vinyl copies go (no one seems interested in discussing this but me), I noticed at least three of these LZ disks at Laurie's yesterday. LouieB

From 1 as I recall. If you have a turntable go get nice cheap vinyl copies. Zep only sold a billion LPs in its day and you can find them all over. (I remember like yesterday hearing Zep for the first time one night in 1969.....) LouieB

Nah nothing like that. he just comes across as kind of a dick that's all. he's basically a good musician, but a lightweight person (and maybe a bit of a lightweight musician, but I have never heard any of his albums, only some of his songs on XRT so I don't really know.) As with most of the crap pubished in RS, even if he were deeper than he appears, they weren't anywhere near portraying that, which may be a huge disservice to him, I don't know. As for Hounddog, you can bet he would have wanted Jessica, but it wasn't ever going to happen... LouieB

Hating their music is one thing (I assume you aren't refering to yourself), but again, I don't know anyone who doesn't think they were a bunch of hard working musicians who maybe got a bit lucky. Equating John Mayer and the Beatles seems like something I wouldn't want to argue about no matter what. LouieB
