  1. Should I buy this?? Amazon has a copy for $1.25...... LouieB
  2. Yea, I have both the Parson's tribute albums, which are of varying quality too. the Nebraska tribute ain't so hot. I have a Tom Waits tribute that is nothing short of deadful. LouieB
  3. The only one I thought really worth the price was the Leonard Cohen "I'm Your Fan", but that was from a byegone era when not every artist/album got a tribute. That hasn't stopped me from actually buying many of them anyway when the price is right (meaning cheap....) LouieB
  4. True indeed, but the Band still needs a tribute album, for better or worse. LouieB
  5. Very nice..wish I was there.... LouieB
  6. I have bought a person or two a 16 inch softball as a present. They are cool to have and after many uses they do soften up. I always used to like to play, but was never in a league. I once got to see Mike Royko play against some of my friends who had a team at Oscar Meyer school. It is the perfect sport for people who like to also drink and socialize at the same time. You really do see less of this than you used to. It used to be you couldn't go to a park without finding a game and that is really not so true anymore. Also it was something that you often did at a picnic. LouieB
  7. He was in Run Westy Run. Their albums appear to be available. I also believe he has done some solo albums. Someone with more info on him than me should be able to direct you on how to find them. LouieB
  8. I am ready to retire..someone can have my job.....NOT... LouieB
  9. While 16 inch softball has not disappeared it is decreasing in popularity and there are fewer leagues than there used to be back in the day. There have been stories about this recently in the news. Frankly you may be right, but that's what I have read. Really I have no fucking idea what I am talking about....just relying on the media for my info.... I used to play and I had tons of friends who used to play and I just don't know hardly anyone who does anymore, but that could just be me. But the corner tavern (an institution that often sponsored softball teams) is also a Chicago traditio
  10. Sadly 16 inch softball is even starting to be less popular here in Chicago. Like many traditions, this one is disappearing. BTW you do play 16 inch softball with no gloves, which is a skill in and of itself. LouieB
  11. Jeff- Thanks for everything, particularly the kind words about TG. Come back for a visit from time to time. LouieB
  12. How can Bob Dylan put someone to sleep. In a few years people will wonder who the Kings of Leon were (I am seeing them in a few weeks with Dylan so at least I will find out), but Dylan will be a legend for a good long time. LouieB
  13. Yes, that was a wonderful moment in what was a very touching night. I just love the drum solo bit, funny and appropriate in its place. LouieB
  14. Who are we talking about here?? Sufjan? He is worth a listen or two. I found it funny that Greg Kot nailed him in a recent review of his performance here in Chicago for the same issue I nailed him for here months earlier....that he has no idea how to swing. (I called it SDD or swing deficit disorder.) If he got a bit of that going he would be a far better musician. As for the Dylan book, see the review above also. I should read that book I suppose, although I have read several of the interviews over the years anyway. LouieB
  15. Sorry to kill some bandwidth here, but this article called Bob on Bob from the New Yorker is worth a read (even though he picks some rather obvious examples to make some of his points. LouieB BOB ON BOB by LOUIS MENAND Dylan talks. Issue of 2006-09-04 Posted 2006-08-28
  16. Clearly it is a slow afternoon at the office after a 3 day weekend..... Hey listen to Sufjan Steven's Illinois a few more times then..... Yea, give the guy a break, he changed the face of modern popular music and still finds some inspiration to release a decent and somewhat entertaining album every few years. You can hardly get that out of Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney or dozens of other older artists (the exception being Neil Young, but even he has put out more than a few duds of late. Even Tom Waits is beginning to put out the same album over and over again.) Hell Brian Wilson had t
  17. The new one? It is good. Simple as that....(it may not be a 5 star album like RS gave it, perhaps only 4.5.) Unfortunately everything Dylan has ever done is compared to his all-star run in the 60s and he simply can't get away from that. I don't know who is more of an old curmudgeon, me or A-man, but it stands up just fine next to the vast majority of indie rock released by the boatload these days. Dylan can still turn a phrase, both lyrically and vocally, compared to artists half his age. And it is head and shoulders above just about everything made by Dylan's contemporaries . Louie
  18. Next up...songs about Horses. LouieB
  19. Never a bad time to talk about Dylan...Yea I am the Director of the Department of Redundancy Department to be sure. I do kind of think that overall this album is better than Time or Love and Theft. I find it very fun and very listenable. The previous two albums in the past ten years are both excellent, but both rely a bit too much on your standard blues. Both albums also have some very strong non-blues material as well so it is pretty hard to say this one is better than the other two, but few artists of Dylan's age have put together what is a third (or fourth) string of three exceptional a
  20. Why pay Dylan style ticket prices to see Kings of Leon? LouieB
