Uh...wasn't that Bill Monroe? Grisman did sort of invent "Dawg music" which is 30's style swing music on bluegrass instuments. Grisman has hardly eschewed commercial recording. He has had a very successful recording career. LouieB

Mine too..... Frankly I am not surprised people don't know UT anymore. Its getting to be a very long time ago now. (And of course the funny thing about this song is it sounds like he is saying black guy.....) LouieB

I found the youtube clips and frankly the fact that Jeff didn't flat out deck the guy is fortunate for that fan. Jeff certainly was within his rights to do so, what a dick. I understand why Jeff apologized, but frankly that kind of thing is totally ridiculous. You can tell Jeff was totally thrown and upset, but as the consumate performer he is, he managed to continue. the Handsome Family (formerly of Chicago, now of New Mexico) performed at a show Jeff currated this summer at the Vic. All of their CDs are good that I have heard, but In the Air is particularly good. They put out these wonderful DIY albums. Sally Timms covers The Sad Milkman on one of her albums. The Handsome family is a group I would love to see Jeff collaborate with on some songs some day when he has time. I think they would be a perfect match. LouieB I never saw them open for Jeff, but they are most certainly worth seeing. The first time I saw them they opened for the Waco Brot

Seeing Glenn solo is always a delight. It was sure fun to see him in a setting with other percussionists and in an improv a few months back. LouieB

Are the Smoking Popes opening for him, for old time sake? LouieB

It wasn't recorded? Bummer...and I don't even listen or collect shows, but I thought it was worthy of documentation for sure. LouieB

Nels is just so great and brings a presence to Wilco that makes the entire group special. I think the anticipation when it was announced that he was joining the band has been fulfilled. Meanwhile if you want to check out the Chicago Improvisors, including Ken Vandermark and his crowd, they perform every Wednesday at the Hideout. I have only made it to one of these events, but if others ever want to go, please feel free to PM me, because I sometimes need the extra motivation on a school night of some company. 11/1 (Jim Baker) and 11/8 (Vandermark 5) both promise to be very cool.
