  1. I personally think the first Led Zepplin album was one of the great debuts of all time.... LouieB
  2. No one hates the Beatles unless they are totally crazed. If someone uses the rather lame agument that they ripped off black music (which was already a dead issue in 1963), the Beatles were working musicians who were NOT an over-night success and were certainly part of the second wave of rock and roll and the first wave of rock and roll in England. Talking about authenticity is something of a fools game, I admit, but there are authentic blues musicians and there are some pretty slick pretenders. This is a facinating, if somewhat academic, book about the subject called Blue Chicago.
  3. I like Dada the art movement.... Count me in for the party... LouieB
  4. George is downright authentic compared to John Mayer. ( I am not that familiar with Jack Johnson other than what I hear from him on XRT, but.....) LouieB
  5. I am...lots of other folks will be there too I am sure. I suspect they planted the rumor in the paper yesterday that Jeff would be there to sell tickets. As far as I know, this show is not sold out. LouieB
  6. Agreed...back at the Auditorium or the Vic.... LouieB
  7. Two standards.... Autumn Leaves September Song LouieB
  8. yea, okay.... None of this really makes me want to hear him that badly.....dillhole is a polite term to say the least. He is a talented guitar player who is now a multi-millionaire based on some drab material. Here is a guy who has had phenominal luck who thought he might quit the music business. Meanwhile he has had nothing but success; the kind that most musicians would die for. EFFFF Him... LouieB
  9. I did a bit of a google on this and found it attributed to Lightnin Hopkins or Lowell Fulson. Looks like Lightnin has more connection to it. Either way, it is a a fairly widely covered song. LouieB
  10. Every time I see this thread I think of PF Sloan instead, who played his first gig here ever at Fitzgerald's this weekend. LouieB
  11. I dragged my lame ass to this show and was really impressed by Catfish Haven. The Double Door was mobbed and they put on a great show, particularly when the band added the additional musicians. Good stuff. LouieB
  12. I know little to nothing of John Mayer, but after reading the article about him in the most recent Rolling Stone, I am less interested in him now than ever... LouieB
  13. the White Stripes were hardly on and didn't really move the plot along. The entire episode was horrible. LouieB
  14. I hope this whole long term tour ends in Chicago sometime this winter. LouieB
  15. The crazy thing about this is when I heard them the other day on here, I thought..damn, their lead singer sounds like Adam....then he gets a job with them? Pretty spooky. LouieB
  16. So rairair..where did YOU get it.. I must be asleep at wheel (remember them anyone??) because i didn't catch that it wasn't out. How is it Samorama?? When is the official release?? Let's see DBT from Alabama, big record Southern Rock Opera and the Dirty South...I think they are somewhat related to country music. BBJ is the son of Bobby Bare and grew up in Nashville, also has some connection to country music, but clearly neither are country musicians per se..... LouieB
  17. Not the stupid band name thread I was expecting... LouieB
  18. This book has a pretty comprehensive overview of all the places Robert Johnson got his material. LouieB
  19. Yea, I didn't catch this the first time through either.....really sorry. LouieB
  20. Yea, its not like I can't find it; Laurie's has the complete Bloodshot catalogue or I could just drop by the Bloodshot offices too. What was I thinking? (Oh yea it must be that pile of as yet unheard CDs and LPs I have at home.... ) Come on back to Chicago sometime too.... LouieB
