  1. There is a small sign out front but unless you know to look for it you wouldn't see it. Now a blogger from BEZ has picked up the story. Same info, but the more attention the better. It is just over a mile north of you and Barack. LouieB
  2. The Chicago Tribune ran this article today. You may not be able to get it, so I am going to run the text. I think the reporter did a nice job. LouieB Vacant Muddy Waters house found to be 'dangerous' in city inspectionBy Heather Gillers, Chicago Tribune reporter January 25, 2013 Once upon a time the house at 4339 S. Lake Park Ave. was filled with children, home cooking and the kind of music that has made Chicago famous around the world. Blues icon Muddy Waters owned the home and lived there from 1954 until he moved to Westmont two decades later, according to published accounts and int
  3. Does he still have it? I suppose it is possible to tell since he has always worn pretty tight pants. LouieB
  4. I come down on the side of the Stooges. I just bought some concert LP a couple days ago. I would never buy any Guns and Roses. Its just a personal preference. LouieB
  5. I guess Jeff can get on to defend himself, not me. He does a pretty good job of that. I was just saying he used to read this shit. Hopefully he has better stuff to do nowdays. Nothing that a few Microsoft commericals didn't fuck up. LouieB
  6. I guess it is a good thing not everyone dislikes different songs for bathroom breaks. LouieB
  7. See the thread on You Guys Scare Me for more discussion (if you need it) on that. Great post. LouieB
  8. See I am not paying attention. Clearly I don't have the obsession others do. When exactly is it coming out? This year is still 11 months long, so it could be two years between the release of TWL and whatever this new one is called. OKay it isn't that weird (but what is your first favorite group?) I only say that because there was a time when Jeff and some of the others did read this stuff but I suspect that now they are a bigger band (not in size but in reputation) they don't spend so much time here. On the other hand if one (not you in particular) are going to dis a band, doing it here
  9. You answered your own question really. It is fresh to you because it is fresh to you NOW. In five more years it will be somewhat second hand. Wilco is not all that prolific a band. If they were putting out a couple albums a year like some artists used to, we would have had dozens of Wilco albums by now, but they don't work like that and hardly anyone does anymore. Even the Whole Love is already over a year old. We are not expecting another Wilco album any time soon (are we? Someone tell me if something is coming out soon.) so it will be the new album for at least over two years, mayb
  10. Some of us have been listening to and following the band for nearly 20 years. (Throw in fandom for Uncle Tupelo and it is longer than that.) That is longer than you have been alive Rip. You have to cut everyone a break. Some of us have seen the band dozens (some hundreds) of times, spun their records hundreds of times, listened to boots of shows, seen band side projects, seen members solo, seen ex band members solo, etc. To exlpect everyone to be as thrilled now as they were when they first heard Wilco is not something you can expect. There are hundreds, no thousands of musicians and mu
  11. More often than not I see Pat out on the street and he doesn't appear to be the kind of dude who would let himself get pushed on anyone, unless maybe you were hot and a female. LouieB
  12. Its pretty much the same song with a lot less hooks and a whole lot more distortion. LouieB
  13. I am only abridging your post because no one in their right minds (hmmm) would make the asumption that two people shooting each other isn't a problem comparable to Newtown. Clearly the argument is that the trade off of our constitutional right to bear arms (oh yea, you can have all the flintlocks you want guys.) is more important than public safety. The constant refrains that I wouldn't let that happen with my guns, my kids aren't mentally ill, I can control the use of my guns, I have a right to them in case I am a victim of a crime or the governmet runs amok, isn't convincing to me either
  14. The "we have to have guns in case a tyrant takes over" (such as some black guy in the white house), is the craziest fucking argument ever. I suppose if this were Syria or something it might make sense, but otherwise what crazy cracker with a few semi-automatic (or even automatic) guns gonna do against the US fucking armed forces. Give me a break. LouieB
  15. Okay, cool. So we have settled that unregulated guns in the wrong people's hands are bad. Now what do we talk about? Gay marriage, immigration reform, ending drone strikes, stopping Iran from getting the bomb, settling the Israeli Palestinian question, balancing the budget, ending the Afgan war, sending the Syrian civil war, reducing student loan debt, banks that are too big to fail, getting Americans back to work, etc. etc. LouieB
  16. I dunno. If you say so. You are sure spending alot of time here trying to dismiss eeryones beliefs that guns can hurt people and that maybe more control over firearms is necessary. LouieB
  17. I would like to think this is bullshit, except you clearly don't think two (angry) people shooting AT each other (with guns) is all that big a deal. I just don't see that much difference between two armed people shooting and only one shooting. Can you clarify your position on THAT? edit-sorry i just don't get it. You have every right to have all the guns and ammo you want okay? And sure guns don't kill people, people do, but damn, it makes it so much easier to shoot and maybe kill someone if you have a gun and are willing to use it to kill someone. At some point this goes WAY beyond your
  18. Time to give it up comrade. The gun enthusiasts (I won't refer to the as gun nuts just to keep it from escalating) don't really care, because clearly guns don't kill people, people kill people. We are basically at war with ourselves and until it becomes so unpopular to do so, we are going to keep shooting one another. LouieB
  19. Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan Wherever you go Wherever you land I'll say what this means to me I'll do what I can Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan Fundamental problem All need to face This is important But I know you're not listening No, I know you're not listening This was still new to me I wouldn't understand Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan This is what love is for To be out of place Gorgeous and alone Face to face With no larger problems That need to be erased Nothing more important Than to know someone's listening Now, I know you'll be listening Trying to explain oblique and
  20. It was. I just kept picturing Mitt Romney giving a speech like that. LouieB
  21. On a different note. Congrats to Barack on his inaguration. Hopefully the country will pull itself together and get something done now. LouieB
  22. It was well worth the investment. Good sounding record. Clearly some significant influence from Johnny Marr. I have to say,as with most albums these days, the lyrics are the weakest point, but it does sound great and there are some really nice tunes. LouieB
  23. Guns is the one place (there are others) where the far left and the far right come together. Those of us on the soft left don't understand the need for guns, because we are basically pacifist hippies. All the paranoids in the furthest wings of both political ideologies know that when the government comes to get you, you have to be ready to shoot to kill. Just sayin.... LouieB Of course he did. If Texas seceeds he is SOL. LouieB
