  1. Despite the mixed reviews on Amazon and because of the ridiculously low price ($1.50) I will give this a listen. Ordered it up just now. LouieB
  2. OH I thought you would talk about his stint with The The or whatever, or that other group he worked with which was forgettable I guess.. None of either of their work is as interesting as The Smiths, but at least Morrissey has continued writing songs and performing on a regular basis, to the great delight of his fan base. LouieB
  3. Morrissey can be faulted in some ways, but he has consistantly put out solo albums. Not sure what you are talking about here What work? LouieB
  4. See above. I figured it out I think. LouieB
  5. Someone with a Dylan shirt pic circa mid 60s. Is he using his own pic? LouieB
  6. All this is pretty sad, but it is always more sad for the unexpected. Older folks like Dave Brubeck, Ravi Shankar, Andy Williams etc, their time just came: and some like Etta James and Levon Helm, we knew they were sick, but folks who are in their 50s and 60s, that's truly sad. LouieB
  7. There is a pic for his avatar. Not sure who it is of though. Should I? LouieB
  8. Wow, we are starting to get VCers younger than the band. I am old enough to be your grandfather actually. LouieB
  9. Not bad, but not exactly thrilling. Sounds like what one would expect. LouieB
  10. I agree about the first part of this. What the heck. Raise some money for someone, but raising money for a good cause should extend to anyone who chooses to donate. The second part clearly I agree with. The labels both major and indie have gone crazy on this. I have volunteered on RSD the last year or so and have also bought stuff, but with rare exception, the offerings are more attractive on first blush than later on. That didn't stop me from buying them though. This is also (half) true. I am all in favor of trying to get folks out to shows, but things have turned completely around
  11. I don't care. i have read pretty mixed reviews of it. Pitchfork 6.8 which is pretty low for those guys. I would say I am more interested in having it than hearing it. I checked out some of it on some stream. Fairly loose feel. All this is just something to talk about. The record collecting biz is very fucked up. I looked on eBay this PM and the two copies are all over 30 bucks. One at 45. Too many bucks for Buck. And really if anyone but Westerberg were singing an Ethel Merman song from a Broadway musical, the hipsters would just groan. LouieB
  12. Harsh, but having not heard either I can hardly say you are wrong. I can't see Bowie's record be anything special. I hold REM and Buck in some regard, but then again the later REM material wasn't so hot. I don't get the point of limited anything, including all the crap that is sold (and I buy some of) on Record Store Day. I am old school (no news there.) Albums were put out in mass quantities so anyone and everyone could buy them and then remandered if they didn't sell (cut out, etc.) No one ever assumed an album would disappear in the first week, they stayed in print for years or unt
  13. I know about supply and demand, but sometimes the demand is higher than the supply and not all the demand is met, creating an instant secondary market. If artists pressed up larger amounts it would cut down on the secondary market and actually yeild more money for them. Not to mention a happier fan base. The current system is kind of out of wack. Edit- Case in point, the new Peter Buck LP. By the time I realized it was out and decided I wanted a copy (initially I figured I would let it go) it was gone. Peter Buck is a fairly well known artist who could sell copies of his solo LP for mo
  14. Whats with the limited vinyl releases of so much stuff? LouieB
  15. I totally agree. Great record. LouieB
  16. Half assed is the order of the day for him I think. After the beautifully rendered Heart of Gold, Journeys was a letdown. Even the wandering around his old boyhood haunts wasn't all that enlightening, although I did enjoy it. The performance, not so much. So why hasn't Trunk Show been released on DVD? I have not bought a new Neil for myself in years, but I do buy them for my wife, who may listen to them once and never again. I bought her Ameriana this year and it is interesting, but that's about it. LouieB
  17. That would be cool. Wonder what it is going for on ebay?? LouieB
  18. This may have been said on this thread before, but if you land in Chicago on a Monday, check out Robbie Fulks' Monday night residency (now going on its third year I think). Last night he and a band did an incredible Harry Nilsson tribute show. More often than not these are low key affairs, but sometimes, like last night, they are very high quality. LouieB
  19. Just got this the other day. Haven't listened to it all, but what I have is pretty spectacular. LouieB
  20. It is only human to be curious about stuff. If someone young dies, I do look to see what it was. The same is true here. We didn't go looking to see what Gary's issue was, he brought it up and it was relayed here by someone else. As a somewhat public figure, who has lots of fans, it helps people process what is going on to know how they should be feeling and what the prognosis is. Creepy, sure, but it is normal to want to know. Get better Gary!! But also help us process this news as well. edit- When Jeff went through his rehab, he was very forthcoming about what was up. That was his
  21. I watched "Journeys" this weekend. Pretty enjoyable. The guy can still belt out a tune at his age. I was less crazy about some of the cinematography, but what the heck. LouieB
  22. I wasn't going to bring this up either, but luckily others have. I couldn't quite figure out why he is being so cagey about what his dependency is. Needless to say it is his business, but so is his recovery. I just figure if he is willing to publicize the recovery he could also say what it is he is recovering from, just to tamp down any speculation. LouieB
  23. I pretty much de-grooved my copy back in the 70s. Seems like only yesterday. LouieB
