  1. He doesn't care. All he cares about is hitting us over the head with how they are alike. Of course he isn't taking into account some rather significant if subtle differences (which obviously doesn't include dispensing with the Fed), so yea, they are both trying to be President of the United States of America, which has a fairly well known job description and responsibilities and not nearly the amount of leeway he (or maybe even we) would want. edit- I reread the graphic because nothing else was happening here (I guess the election is in just a few days, I don't know...) but I realized that
  2. Howard Reich may have written about his death, but I didn't see anything in the physical paper. I knew of him (own a CD that I picked up for a couple bucks at resale shop many years ago), but don't believe I ever saw him (or maybe I did, it is getting hard to remember all the folks I have seen.) While he was beloved in the Chicago music scene. I don't think he played all that often around town anymore. Certainly he did not have the influence or following that Nick Drake has (strange interpretation in the article from the first posting). His music was a strange amalgam of soft jazz/folk/pop
  3. Sad. The guy was not that old. I did not see this covered in the Chicago papers either. LouieB
  4. Sadly the man is getting up in years. LouieB
  5. So so there is no real discrepency: Libertarian = Republican Any and all so called Libertarians running for office at the moment, including both this guy Gary Johnson jand both Ron and Rand Paul are or have been Repblicans. LouieB
  6. Hey Sparky how about FEMA? And again...Gary Johnson....Not even close to winning. LouieB
  7. Not to Sparky. Expect a posting on how horrible FEMA is any moment now. LouieB
  8. The duets with Melba Montgomery are quite good also. Somewhat different than the ones with Tammy Wynette. LouieB
  9. George Jones is one of the great country singers and one of the last living artists from the classic country/honky tonk period of the 50s and 60s. The Louvin Brothers were a bluegrass/gospel group which sounded more like the quartet/harmony singers of the earlier part of the 20th century. What they sang about and how they sang was somewhat different. I can understand liking the Louvins more in some respects, but George Jones has more in common with the more modern country singers of the Hank Williams school. LouieB
  10. I have seen them a couple times too. Once at the Hideout a year ago and then again at the CTU rally at Union Park. Cool group. LouieB
  11. For sure. Nate Silver is still saying 70 some % for Obama. Oh and Ohio....going for Obama. LouieB
  12. There is an excellent comp of George's early work out there. I found a couple old LPs for a buck a piece recently too. If you can find it there is a great LP with George and a bunch of rockc figures such as Elvis Costello. Don't think it came out on CD. Plenty of George Jones on CD out there, so you can't go too far wrong. Go with the early stuff. LouieB
  13. Wow, pretty ecumenical. Then again this is a Reform congregation. LouieB
  14. I get the day off to vote, so I am waiting until then, even though we have early voting in IL. LouieB
  15. Its pathetic really. 13 more days and we can call it quits on this thread. LouieB
  16. For sure. Freaked the shit out of me the first time i heard it. LouieB
  17. Actually the horses and bayonets worked fine, it was the explanation about air craft carriers and submarines that I thoujght was a bit snotty. LouieB
  18. Good decision to live in Andersonville. Great place. Not so far from downtown. This is Chicago, it takes some time to get to work. Taking the Red Line?? LouieB
  19. Those aren't mentions those are more links. Why not just express an opinion instead of throwing shit like that? Now you are just getting creepy. LouieB
  20. I Wasn't sure if I spelled it right though. LouieB
  21. Good to know you really dont care about what you are saying, just baiting us. Very helpful when you want to have a dialogue.. No one who gets elected is a savior, that's where you are totally wrong. The person who is elected in a couple weeks is only another human being grappling with huge issues and even larger institutions and problems. That's where we differ. Most of us don't expect Barack Obama or Mitt Romney to save us. Ron Paul can't save us either. This isn't a question of saving anything, it is a question of moving forward in whatever imperfect way we can. Human history is litter
  22. Thanks for answering for me Kevin, because I am really trying not to talk to Sparky anymore. Even the terms he uses are deceiving. He wants free markets, but only wants to talk about the money supply, not actual markets, which are pretty darn free. I keep trying to figure out what else he wants to get rid of in the federal government, which he hates so much, besides the fed. Ron Paul and other liberartians have been pretty specific about getting rid of some of the departments, such as education, energy, etc. I just wonder if he wants to dump EPA, HHS, the EEOC, the FDIC, Agriculture, the
