Presidential Race (Respector Edition)

It sure didn't help Jimmy Carter. Regarding the question of why anyone would care if Jeff Tweedy supports Obama; Tweedy has tons of fans, who do care. Some don't. But some do and he clearly feels strongly enough about it to go out and talk about his support. Does it matter? To some people, yes it does. LouieB -

Well its obvious isn't it. Particularly this time out. Good little interview. Clearly they edited it down and make Jeff look better then he does in the outtakes, so kudos to the editors at Cuirrent. These clips must piss some folks off here on both ends of the political spectrum. On the right because clearly Jeff supports Obama and on the left because Jeff clearly STILL supports Obama. Kudos to Jeff!! LouieB -

The Israelis attacking Iran could be an October suprise for an election that is clearly going Obamas way. Does Romney have enough pull with Netanyahu to get him to get Obama to look bad on this?? In the long run the US will support Israel if they bomb Iran no matter who is president. Or will they? No one knows. LouieB -

Well two things we can be reasonably sure of; 1. The Fed is not going away. 2. Mitt Romney is not going to President of the United States. LouieB -
Yea, really. If you simply riff on the various "scenes" such as Husker Du and Replacements from Minneapolis and Brit rock or any other significant local scenes, you get a fairly large pool of artists. Uncle Tupelo was the result of the late 80s, early 90s post punk scene of metro-east /St. Louis which was not unlike many other scenes of the same time period around the country/world. Even in the realm of alt/country of that time period there were lots of groups engaged in similar kinds of music. Taking the music buisness as a whole, including those artists that were precurors to rock, through

Goodness think of the groups that we all like who aren't even close - The Replacements, The Smiths, Robyn Hitchcock, etc, etc, etc, you name it, These are all groups with large discographies on major labels (yea I know UT had one album on Reprise, but figure that Eleventh Dream Day had a few albums on Atlantic.) UT is our group, not the R&R Hall group. LouieB

Do they deserve it from our perspective, sure, but let's get real; UT was a cult band from the midwest on a tiny ass label. Not a chance. Now give Wilco a bit of time....maybe. LouieB

I am glad someone here can intelligently argue about the Fed, because honestly I can't. The Fed is a fact of life and I will leave it to lost highway to debunk these conspiricy theories because I can't and won't. (Also it was not what I was talking about in my post, which is so far left unanwered.) We don't walk around with gold and silver coins in our pockets anymore so I know full well that money is an abstract on so many levels. Manipulating the money markets certainly could have disasterous effects I suppose, but that is hardly the sole problem with the Fed. I see no way to go back to -

Those who think that no matter how much they give it isn't enough and that anyone over a third world minumum is rich, well yea okay. fine. I feel your pain. I don't like paying taxes either. But again maybe instead of cutting back on benefits to the poor, the disabled and the elderly, maybe the pentagon really doesn't need as much and maybe we don't have to be the cops of the world. What do we really need to keep the US of A safe and secure?? Other countries don't spend as much on the military. Also other countries don't incarcerate as many of their people either, which costs us all a to -

I am going to guess that not a single one of our snide (or not snide ) right wing advocates can even attempt to answer this question. The furor over Romney's secretly recorded comments at the fundraising meeting blows the roof off of the real issue here. Demoncrats are not less fiscally responsible than Republicans. That whole thing about tax and spend Democrats has lots of traction, but Republicans are just spend and don't tax supporters. So the poor and the old and disabled suck. But it sucks to be poor and old and disabled (or any combo thereof.) But as a society particularly one as ric -

KevinG - Really!!??!?!? No one can explain that, because it is a fact of life. The deficit is a club to beat the crap out of those who don't like the other party. You are exactly correct. The GOP could give a rats ass about deficits. Giving some credit to the wacky libertarians here, I do believe they give a shit about this, but no one but them wants to say that what we need to do is stop spending money on crap like the military and the war on drugs and that would help a whole lot. Liberals (like me) like social programs because we believe we should be taking care of those who need the hel -

Sparky- I think you need to start a thread about why the Federal Reserve sucks. No matter who is president the thing ain't going away. It probably isn't going away anyway, but really it isn't part of the presidentail campaign. LouieB -
It really is no secret that both the right and the near left are going to keep beating up on the teachers unions. If private sector unions were stronger (or more than barely existed) then this would not be such a big deal. But now that the "relative" stability and profitability of teacher"s jobs seem like the holy grail they are going to be used as public punching bags. . What the CTU did accomplish was stop Rahm from beating up on them at least temorarily. But if anyone thinks this is over, they are sadly mistaken. I don't think any teacher in Chicago is fooled. Actually it is probably far more. Do your kids get a subsidized lunch? Childcare, etc. Pell grants, family members in the military, etc. Government contracts and subsidies? Most every family gets some sort of government aid. LouieB -

Yes, the Louisiana Music Factory is the one. I spent some time in there and found the prices high, although if you are looking for local music they have it, so the price is part of the deal. Glad they are still in business. LouieB
