  1. Unhappy people are often funnier than shit. He sure was. So were most of the greats and they often told the truth including Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, etc. I am not sure I would want to pattern my life after them though. LouieB
  2. REALLY?? Isn't Wilco a slightly above mid-level former alt-county rock group that is now an indie rock powerhouse? Let's at least argue about somehting significant. Actually who would you rather have? A wooden vulture capitalist or a smooth non-white former community organizer and U of C law professor. Style may not trump substance according to Sparky, but style doesn't hurt. LouieB
  3. So if you are as old as I am (I doubt you are quite as old but maybe we have discussed this before), I guess with your conspiricy filled brain you live off the grid (strange you are on here all the time), have all your assets in gold and live out in the wilderness somewhere with a small arsenalm a bunker and a bunch of canned food. On the other hand I kinda figure you are a regular guy with a family who is simply working a regular square job and just a bit bored. As I have said before I don't believe in all these conspiricies because basically everyone's agenda is pretty open. We live in an
  4. Okay both you and George Carlin convinced me, I won't vote this year. I believed this probably before you were born and to an extent still do. BUT it also don't help NOT to vote. (First off George Carlin was an entertainer so saying funny and outrageous stuff made him a ton of bread, it made Utah Phillips a whole lot less, despite saying the same thing, because he wasn't nearly as funny.) I don't even think most of the Obama supporters believe that voting him back in will change all that much, but I do believe a whole bunch of bad shit WILL happen if we elect Romney, but I could be wrong
  5. Both paries support the Federal Reserve and have no intention of shutting it down?? I am shocked and appalled!!!! They don't want to shut down the IRS??? Actually none of those forty points shocks me in the least. This is the federal fucking government!!! Of course they want all those things. None of this is either shocking or or new. Feel free to vote for none of the above this November. There ARE differences between the two parties, but both of them wanting to regulate something and keeping the federal government isn't in either agenda ultimately. Time to join CPUSA or a mililtia
  6. Clearly some people are completely out of new ideas. What I would like to see is a sequel to "It's a Wonderful Life" and see how THAT story turned out. LouieB
  7. I suppose it depends on who is elected. You may end up voting for the person who is NOT the next President. (Clearly your question was a Zen koan.) LouieB
  8. All this proves is that some Democrats are dumbshit too. LouieB
  9. The Jefferson Airplane is one of my all time favorites. I got a copy of Volunteers for subcribing to Rolling Stone. Those were the days in all sorts of ways.Never dis see them, but did see Jorma one time. LouieB
  10. This was not a comeback album because JA didn't go anywhere. They had just put out Bathing at Baxters a year earlier. If they had a comback album it was whatever that thing was they put out out in 1989 and no one listened to that. LouieB
  11. Just saying. There will be more women tonight too I suppose. There are lots of them around ya know. LouieB
  12. Actually they had all the femaile members of the House on stage yesterday. LouieB
  13. There is no better candidate who can beat Romney......do you want Romney? LouieB
  14. If I never hear Lola again it will be too soon. It wasn't that great in the first place, despite being somewhat controversial and then the radio played the shit out of it. Victoria on the other other hand is really great, and clearly Waterloo Sunset is a masterpeice. LouieB
  15. Glad you had a good time. Sounds like you packed about as much in as you could in 24 hours including a ton of food. Come back when you have more time. LouieB
  16. I have no idea what this means. If a graphic and its words are supposed to convey a simple message, this one is confounding. Is it saying that labor isn't doing anything, either working or advocating for workers, that the administration (although Nancy Pelosi is not speaker of the House) is backstabing workers, that all these guys are smug and taking away workers rights? I just don't get it and I am not going to whatever Looking Spoon is to find out what their ideological bent is. This graphic is a failure, sorry. LouieB
  17. I had not read the Tesser piece. It is true that Von did mentor lots of folks, but the fact that Fred ran two (well one major) clubs certainly gave him the opportunity to support more fully a significant number of artists. Lots of tributes to Von at the Jazz Fest including Chico playing with the Apartment Lounge band on Friday night and a number dedicated to Fred and Von by Ken VanderMark the other night. LouieB
  18. Just logged on and saw this. Very sad. Great lyricist. LouieB
  19. The probelm is that if these are the worst groups (I liked Beach House this year at Pitchfork, though I knew nothing about them) then who are the good ones? LouieB
  20. Having had 24 hours to think about all this, at least Clint just got up there and winged it, unlike all the vetted and heavily edited speeches that the rest of the folks made. Not to mention the endless trotting up of the only minorities in the party to show just how diverse the Repubs are becane nauseating. He injected a bit of humor into what was a humorless affair. The Clint at least brought some levity to the whole sorid thing and got people talking about it. Meanwhile back where the real action is.... LouieB
  21. Hey they are just trying to make a living. (Bon Iver though, yea pretty much correct.) Luckily from working at Pitchfork the last few years I have encountered most of thse bands so I don't feel totally out of it. (Meanwhile LA Weeklly needs an award for the most code heavy website ever.) LouieB
  22. Having seen Kelly and Neko and also Kelly and Carolyn (and I think Nora O'Connor was there) I can only imagine the interplay between the three of them. LouieB
