I think I just fell in love with Weezer again. That was awesome.

Even though it's not on the level of The Photo Album or Transatlanticism (and that's asking a lot anyway), I really like Narrow Stairs after six or seven listens. It's an easy record to listen to, if that makes sense. "No Sunshine" and "You Can Do Better Than Me" must be from their Summerteeth period.

There goes any hope you ever had of working at Pitchfork!

Today my favorite song is "Heart Songs." Like solace, I love the references and tributes in the song. The song could easily come across as cheesy, but for those of us who love music and for whom music is such an important part of life, I think the song comes across as sincere. There's even a hint of passion in Rivers' voice towards the end of the song. That's something that's been missing in his songs for a long time. I think the verse about Nirvana's "Nevermind" has a clunky phrase or two in it, but this song is so much better lyrically than a lot of the other songs. It's low on the cringe-in

The Green Day song you're thinking of is "Jesus of Suburbia." I'll have to go back and listen to it, because apparently a lot of people think "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived" is like a lesser "Jesus of Suburbia." I also really like "Dreamin'." If I ranked the eight songs today here's how I'd rank them: 1. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived 2. Dreamin' 3. Heart Songs 4. Pork and Beans 5. Thought I Knew 6. Everybody Get Dangerous 7. Troublemaker 8. Cold Dark World The only songs I really don't care for are "Troublemaker" and "Cold Dark World," but maybe after some more listens I'll come to l

I'm not sure about the registration part, but I know the site has been getting slammed tonight. They've taken down the link to the portion of the board that actually pertains to Weezer, but if you can get to this link you might be able to get to the threads on the new songs. I've listened to most of the songs that are available now, and no one will ever be able to accuse Weezer of putting it in cruise control on this record. It definitely doesn't sound like anything they've done before, and there's more originality in these songs than most of what they've done recently. I kind of hate the be

It looks like some of the songs from the new album have made their way to the internet. I've haven't listened to any of them yet, but about half the album is available. See albumsix.com for more details.

Death Cab did a six song live set for Daytrotter. The songs (which can be downloaded for free) include two from "Narrow Stairs": "Cath" and "Talking Birds."

As we see most of our shows at the 930 Club in Washington, DC, we get a lot of political talk from the bands that come through town. I realize that for them it's probably the only night of the tour they're in DC, so they feel like they need to get their political opinions off their chest, but for us it's almost every show we go to. Maybe they do it every night of the tour, but I get the feeling like they do more when they're here. And even though I don't disagree with most of the things they're saying, I get a little tired of hearing it. Shockingly Springsteen was a little restrained when he p

I really hope the music behind that cover isn't as awful as the cover itself, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. While I liked "Pork and Beans" initially, it's becoming less and less appealing. I like the chorus, but the rest is not so great.

A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe

I think John Mayer's Continuum is a great album. Wow, that felt good. Excellent thread. -
The tracklist for the album was posted over at weezer.com (where you can also listen to a stream of Pork and Beans). Because I'm also "homo for Cuomo", I'll be picking up the "Deluxe" edition with its four extra tracks. "Weezer" (2008) Tracklist is as follows: Regular Edition (CD; digital): 1. Troublemaker 2. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn) 3. Pork and Beans 4. Heart Songs 5. Everybody Get Dangerous 6. Dreamin

I think that quote is referring to the Blue Album. It's the only album he produced for Weezer.

I realize this conversation regarding Jack Johnson's merits has quieted down, but I thought he made some interesting comments about his own music in a story in Paste.

Yeah, the "I don't care a hoot about what you think" line is pretty terrible. And yet, somehow I still like the song.

KROQ premiered the single (Pork and Beans) tonight. If you look hard enough you'll find it.

He had both. I want to say the leg braces were during the Blue album. He had braces on his teeth between Pinkerton and Green. I thought I read somewhere it corrected a lisp he had, which changed his singing voice.
-
I could be wrong but I want to say he got braces and the results changed his voice.
-
Yeah, that's what I thought. It sounds more like the Blue album than anything they've done since. Of course, it's only 30 seconds of one song, but I think it's promising.

You can hear a 30 second clip of the first single (Pork and Beans) over at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Pork-And-Beans/dp/B0...442&sr=1-95

That was a great segment. More to the point, Colbert was great. (And isn't he really the focus of every interview on that show?) I loved his question about the album being labeled their "comeback."
-
If he's going to go around "borrowing" songs, he should borrow from better songs, so he doesn't end up with "Hash Pipe" again. Perhaps that explains "Beverly Hills"! And we all know that he stole "We Are All on Drugs" from the "When you're sliding into first" song. Whatever the case, the Shods stuff sounds interesting. I'd also love to hear the song if you can dig out your CD. (I probably have something like 40 CDs in my car right now for reasons I don't even understand.)

The "Red Album" (per Rolling Stone).

Paste Magazine has a Q&A (literally one Q and one A) with Adam Duritz. Turns out "Los Angeles" and "1492" were both originally written for Hard Candy. http://www.pastemagazine.com/action/articl...ing_crows_story
