Weezer just did a pretty great AOL Sessions. They play a lot of the songs that should have made the "regular" album, including "Miss Sweeney," "King," and "It's Easy." All of it is acoustic. As a bonus they do "Why Bother" but with Brian Bell singing and Rivers on drums. All the videos are up commercial free at their website: http://www.weezer.com/media/

And that is one of the many reasons I don't read Pitchfork.

After hearing "My Only Offer" on one of the more recent Paste samplers I decided to pick up Re-arrange Us. It's really fantastic and I'm so glad I took the chance on the album after only hearing the one song. Are there any other Mates of State fans around here who could point me in the right direction for getting some more of their albums? Where should I start?

I just want me a free Dr. Pepper.

Yeah, I'm listening to "If the World" over at Youtube right now. It's, um, really not that great. Or good. I hope the other tracks are better than that one.

The line about the son's/father's eyes always gets me in this one. I especially like the Living Room version of this I have.

Those are really great. Thanks for sharing!

I've now heard all the bonus songs (at least I think I have) and they left some really great songs off the record. If they had asked me to make a 10-song tracklist, it would have looked something like this: 1. Ms. Sweeney (Deluxe album extra track...Between this song and the chorus from Pork and Beans it's nice to see Rivers still can write songs that sound more like Blue-era Weezer) 2. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived 3. Dreamin' 4. Pork and Beans 5. Heart Songs 6. Pig (Deluxe album extra track...I like the studio version) 7. King (Deluxe album extra track...I would love to hear what it so

Ray LaMontagne "Gossip In The Grain" Sept. 9th

The second album was definitely a grower. And I think you really have to be in the mood for it. I too thought it was dull for a while. It's a late night by candlelight kind of record. I saw him back when he played half a tour with Guster. I think he had had a blow up in Nashville or something several nights before the show, so I was afraid he was going to wig out during the Wolf Trap show. He didn't, but he didn't exactly have much stage presence either. I still love listening to the albums though and look forward to the new one. -
I'd recommend the deluxe edition only because two of the four songs ("Ms. Sweeney" and "Pig") are better than a lot of the songs that made the album. "King" is pretty good, too. The deluxe booklet (complete with about a dozen errors/typos) has been scanned and can be seen at albumsix.com.

I picked this album up yesterday when I went to get the new Weezer. I agree that her albums can be growers, but right away "Freeway" and "Borrowing Time" stand out as really great songs. I really like the Moog--at least I think it's a Moog--on "Freeway."

I thought I read somewhere that it's Scott singing.

Yes and no. There are a bunch of bonus tracks. You can get a physical CD with four of the bonus tracks, but there are more to be had through online retailers. This thread over at albumsix.com has a break down of where all the songs will show up: http://www.albumsix.com/bboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1873

You'll be really happy when you finally hear "The Angel and The One."

The four bonus tracks from the deluxe edition of The Red Album have leaked. I think I'll pass on downloading these. Something should remain a surprise on Tuesday.

Yeah, that irony has not escaped me. I actually didn't mind most of Make Believe but for some reason Troublemaker gets to me. It is beyond reason.

If this song had different lyrics it might be one of my favorites. But as it stands, the lyrics bug the hell out of me.

After hearing the whole album I think that some of Weezer's best songs since the first two albums are on this album. That might not be seeing a whole lot and I do think the album is a little inconsistent. I was initially happy to hear that Rivers had finally relinquished some control on this album, but after hearing the other guys' contributions, I think I'd like an all-Rivers seventh album. Here's my updated ranking of the ten tracks that make up The Red Album. 1. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived 2. The Angel and The One 3. Heart Songs 4. Dreamin' 5. Pork and Beans 6. Thought I Knew 7. Ever

The last two tracks, "Automatic" and "The Angel and the One," have leaked. Their cover of The Band's "The Weight," which is going to be a bonus track on some version of the album, is also available.
