I'm definitely looking forward to this album. I first heard Rogue Wave a couple of years ago when they were opening for Guster. (At least I think it was Guster.) Descended Like Vultures was a grower album for me, but now I really dig it.

She is pretty fantastic. We caught her show at the 930 club last week and she looked great. I'm afraid your creepy dreams of a marriage will have to wait though. Before she played "That Teenage Feeling" she said, "This is a song for all of those people who refuse to get married!" It didn't sound like she was in any hurry to tie the knot. For now we can all bask in the glory of the new NP album, which AOL is streaming today here!

I'd definitely have to add Shotgun Wedding to that list. I finally got the CD yesterday (ordered it from Amazon on Tuesday when I couldn't find it anywhere near me). It was well worth the wait. I loved his DBT stuff, and I'm glad to hear a decidedly non-DBT sounding record. Dress Blues is still an incredible song, but I prefer the non-band version, the way he was playing it on tour with DBT with just him and a guitar. He did it acoustic and electric, and I think the solo/electric combo is by far the best. It's really an amazing and moving song. Jason really deserves a ton of success. Jason s

AOL is streaming the album in its entirety here: clicky! It may bring up the new Smashing Pumpkins first, but the new Spoon is the third disc. I'll put another plug in for the new They Might Be Giants album which is also being streamed at the site.

You can listen to a full stream of the new Pumpkins album here. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, and I'm not sure I will. I loved the Pumpkins when I was in high school and Mellon Collie came out, but this new album isn't doing anything for me. For a more pleasant listening experience, I recommend skipping over the new SP album and checking out the new They Might Be Giants album, which is being streamed on the same site.

Wow. This guy should be famous. I mean, you know, like Internet famous. Like the Star Wars kid. I half expected him to come with "This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass" as he smashed ThisIsAGayMan's Corvette to pieces.

Their output since Pinkerton obviously hasn't measured up to the first two albums, but that's a pretty tall order. I really liked the Green Album, thought Maladroit had its moments, and like almost all of Make Believe. I know there are a lot of fans out there who want another Pinkerton, but I already own that album, so I hope they do something new. (Kind of like how I already own YHF, so I'm glad Wilco made SBS.)

This is turning out to be a great day. I just picked up the excellent new Ryan Adam's album along with Elliott Smith's Either/Or, and now this... After Make Believe, I really thought there might not ever be another weezer album. The use of lines from Shakespeare's The Tempest in the liner notes for that album made it seem like it was weezer's swan song. I'm glad to see it wasn't. weezer Rolling Stone

MTV flips the switch back on for 'Unplugged'
bsr8j replied to unposed_question's topic in Just A Fan
That was indeed a great Unplugged. The new Bon Jovi one, however, leaves a lot to be desired. A caught bits and pieces last night on VH1 and CMT, and it was just kind of sad. I loved Bon Jovi when I was a kid, and still really dig a lot of the stuff from the Slippery When Wet/New Jersey era, but the Unplugged kind of sucked. I think the string section was a bit much. I thought the original idea behind Unplugged was to see a band stripped down, not dolled up with strings, etc. The Lauryn Hill unplugged was great. As far as Wilco unplugged...even if that were to never happen, the solo Jeff sh -

You might disagree, but I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't. I actually find it kind of annoying. Of course, your posts here are definitely not unique to just this message board. No matter what message board you go to, you'll almost certainly find your doppelganger letting people know that what they want to discuss was discussed like 6 months before hand. The cry of the supposed enlightened masses on those pages has become "UTFS." I'm not sure it's such a grave sin to start a new topic on something that's been previously discussed, especially by people who don't spend most of their time on one m -
I think the unplugged album is either one you love or hate. When I listen to it on the computer I usually just make a playlist with the songs on the album, skipping over the sometimes long and out there "interludes" or her talking about the songs, love, sanity, and the music industry. All the songs on the album were new at the time (none were from Miseducation). I would have loved to heard what she did with them with a full band, but I'm just happy to have the versions on the unplugged album. It's a very bare and immediate performance.

I'm not sure how many Lauryn Hill fans hang out on Wilco's board, but for those that are here, she's got a new song out. It's called "Lose Myself" and it's on the soundtrack for Surf's Up. You can check it out on iTunes. It wasn't at all what I was expecting (not the sound anyway), but the lyrics are all Lauyrn Hill. Rolling Stone did a short write up on it in their latest issue (in the Download section). They mentioned the song is apparently in response to Beyonce who said she would never "lose herself" like Lauryn Hill did. It's been five years since Ms. Hill put out anything, and so far I d

Many thanks to everyone out there for the feedback. I knew this was the right place to come for help. I'll be picking up Either/Or and XO on one of my next trips to the record store.

I actually do want to buy them all, and probably will eventually. However, I hate buying more than 2-3 albums at a time, because I won't have enough time to listen to all of them as much as I'd like. Usually when I buy an album I listen to it non-stop for two or three weeks, and then it may be years before I listen to it again. I'd rather give myself enough time to appreciate the albums before moving on. Thanks for the recommendations! This will probably be my last purchase as I'd rather start with the studio albums before moving on to the collection that is New Moon.
-
So I've got S/T and Basement, but nothing in between. Where should I start? What should be my next purchase? (I know this was discussed a bit in the New Moon thread.)

You can find it right here.

My wife and I actually had tickets for the early show (the one on NPR), but I ended up having to work that night, so we had to sell the tickets. The show sounded great on NPR, so I was a little sad we had to miss it. Now if we had also missed seeing Jim Halpert, he of the greatest show on television, that would have been too much to endure!

My boss let me borrow that album a couple of weeks ago. I had never heard the live version of Heroin, which is in fact terrific. My boss, on the other hand, has never heard the VU version. Weird.

They've announced all the bands for the show. I think last year's festival had a much stronger line up overall, but it would still be great to see some of those bands. Virgin Music Festival 2007
