i'd like to point out that Janis Joplin would be making no money from anyone covering a song written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns.

Hold on everyone. Its a Jay Bennett song. You must hate it.

It is amazing to me that people believe that not being able to express themselves clearly is something to be proud of.

Well Joe Nobody didn't put Modern Times out, Bob Dylan did. Evaluating an artists work in some kind of vacuum without referencing their entire body of work is, to my mind, pointless. If someone new put out Modern Times as their first record its true it might not have gotten as much press, but there is depth and value given to the record if it is approached as a strand in a long lasting body of work. Removing it from its context as a "Bob Dylan record" is pointless. Part of its power is it is part of the whole that is "Bob Dylan". ps. An early example of the Modern Times method , Down on Pen

This idea that Bob Dylan has only been doing this re-imagining of traditional songs for his last three records is hilarious. He's been doing it from the beginning. I would think that if you examined almost every "new" song recorded by anyone since recording began you'd find a framework inherited from the past, be it the chord progression, the melody or the lyrics. Wilco have many songs where melodies are closely related to traditional songs, chord progressions that have been used many many times before and lyrical themes that have been around for hundreds of years. It is in the re-contextualiz

Nels played the solo on Later with Jools Holland, much to my astonishment, because I too thought it was Jeff. My favourite solo on the record.

Try typing "King Khan" not King Kahn if your title wasn't a typo.

Simon Tong is not on any records except for Urban Hymns. He isn't the person with the past problems with Ashcroft, its definitely McCabe. The absence of Tong will mean little, one would imagine, since he was involved with so little of their output.

Lieberman said yesterday that America should invade Iran. Try worrying about that for a change. It is a sign of a wasteful and decadent culture when the populace ignores real issues and instead spends their time being distracted by entirely pointless trifles.

BlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlahBlah BlahBlah. When will you people tire of this crap. This has got to be the most earnest group of fans in the whole world. ITS A ROCK GROUP. That's it. The amount of thought and energy you people put into Wilco is amazing. Why anyone not involved in the day to day operations of Wilco would spend so much time worrying about this bullshit is beyond me.

I think Wilco actually might be at the start of their leveling off period. They have had a lot of press in the last number of years and yet A Ghost is Born sold less than YHF. Sky Blue Sky isn't going to change that trend, I would guess. Not really a record that will grab the ears of those not already committed to them. I have noticed too that a lot of musician friends were really into Wilco post YHF and now don't really seem to be into them that much.

Maybe you should know there is already a band called Moonsocket that have been around for at least ten years. Its one of the guitar players from Eric's Trip. They've put out records on Sub Pop and many other labels. I know its hard to find a band name that hasn't been used before.

I think Squeeze is out of print. Its better than people believe it is. Its an interesting to see the many ways Doug Yule attempts to write songs in the Loaded style. It is certainly way more listenable than Metal Machine Music or many other Lou Reed albums for that matter. Did Doug Yule go in the RRHOF with the rest of the VU? He's on as many records as Cale and was vital to many peoples two favourite VU records.

I'm not sure what's exciting about this, you called a radio station and requested a song and OMG they played it! If your contention is that Spiders is some weird piece of music too far out for the masses you need to listen to more music.

BBC Streams The Good, The Bad, And The Queen
Harold Pinto replied to augurus's topic in Someone Else's Song
I watched the good athe bad and the queen and was decidely underwhelmed. Maybe the studio will help those songs. I was saddened at how Paul Simonon seemed to have fairly mediocore bass lines, I loved him with The Clash. The band seemed to be going for a real simple thing that hadn't quite gelled yet. Maybe the record will have something but I thought the show missed.
