  1. WF - Is that Vic Chesnutt or David Lynch singing the haunting, final (title)track ? My tracklisting says Vic. My ears, Dave.
  2. I'm not afraid to say how great Do The Collapse is. Lo-fi, hi-fi, I don't care. It's all about Bob's songs. I've been playing the hell out of 'Half Smiles' of late. Its greatness keeps rising. The chorus in Liquid Indian is a goose-bumper, complete with "oohs"
  3. I agree - fwiw - a few pages back, I posted a truncated list that included a few of these. I find much of the Pitchfork list to be disposable. In the next 5 years I don't think I'll find myself reaching for a Panda Bear record. You're right, it's not awful. It just that if I want to play a The Beach Boys record, why not play the real thing.
  4. I bought it a few months ago and got through it, albeit having issues with it. That said, it was on cable last night and I watched 45 minutes or so and found myself fairly riveted. Looks like I'll be revisiting it soon. I agree, with Lynch, the promise is always better than the real thing.
  5. If you like, I'll tell'em. Hey Frank Booth - I just noticed your Inland Empire avatar. cool
  6. My number one record of 2006. ...and just about every other year.
  7. Certainly, some good selections. Some glaring omissions. But overall, downright terrible. Mostly, it's a list chock full of pedigreed bookend dweeb music.
  8. In addition to what's been posted - Brian Eno - here come the warm jets Gene Clark - no other Be Bop Deluxe - axe victim Willie Nelson - phases and stages
  9. I saw Beatlemania in 1978 at The Orpheum in SF. Marshall Crenshaw played the part of John Lennon. I distinctly remember between sets they were quietly playing The Cars 'Let The Good Times Roll' before the curtain came up for the second set.
  10. I'd like to add : Uncle Tupelo - still feel gone Slint - Spiderland Matthew Sweet - girlfriend Velvet Crush - in the presence of greatness
  11. Some of their later material might be described as a bit confectionary, but Bandwagonesque ?? I respectfully disagree. The Arcade Fire simply rode the Pitchfork Bandwagon to some sort of success. Don't get it. White Stripes, I can respect the asthetic, now I wish Jack White would just go away.
  12. So if Abbey Road had been released today, Please Please Me would date to April 2003. So think about that for a sec: Twelve studio albums and a couple of dozen singles, with a sound that went from earnest interpreters of Everly Brothers and Motown hits to mind-bending sonic explorers and with so many detours along the way-- all of it happened in that brief stretch of time. That will never be touched.
  13. The best record released in 1991 : Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
  14. He certainly has a right to the throne with upwards of 1200 songs published with BMI. YIKES

  17. Wow. That's quite the impressive gig list. The Electrifying Conclusion ?? Sweet. Yep, that's the guy. I believe my source was the Jim Greer book, Hunting Accidents... On a completely unrelated note and not to compare - Have you heard - The Capstan Shafts The Broadfield Marchers
  18. That's cool we match up on 8 of 10. I was at the Bimbo's show where the other Cobre Verde guitarist was playing air guitar cos he knew he was about to get fired. That was a weird one as well. Here's my rather limited GbV/Pollard Gig list : bottom of the hill - sf - 1995 great american music hall - sf - 1996 bimbos - sf - 1997 amoeba records - sf - 2001 slims - sf - 2003 the independent - sf - 2006
