  1. Just the opening chord, but that's the extent of it. The second chord in Miles is a third, where Question Girl moves a half-step. Great track tho. "all right the coastline" Done !
  2. New Boston Spaceships song up on the website. Question Girl All Right http://robertpollard.net/music.html

  4. Great job Hardwood Floor. Time and effort appreciated. I have a Top 100, but nothing like this. Wow. >>>>213. Tattered Lily (demo), Robert Pollard (Rich Turiel download) Did Rich post this on the website or on DTS ?
  5. 'The Brides Have Hit Glass' >>>> a very, very underrated track from Isolation Drills. Would certainly make my list. Hardwood Floor - no love for 'Go For The Exit' huh ?
  6. I find it a waste of time to keep comparing everything to his '92-'97 period. It just won't measure up. I feel part of the charm of that era was the whole lo-fi thing and recording out of the pressure of circumstance and condition. Is 'Off To Business" as good as those aforementioned records, including FaCE ? No, but there are 3-4 songs I'd rather have than not. I do like 'Elephant Jokes' quite a bit and find it to have a lot in common with The Keene Bros record. It may not be as consistent but there are certainly 7-8 good 'rock' songs present. That being said, I'd love an MP3 (PM please) o
  7. Zero to 99 (Like everyone else, haven't heard it) >>>>I've heard from a couple people in the Pollard 'camp' that this will be the best one yet. C(grade) = Turn to Red >>>>The Takeovers record prolly does deserve a 'C' rating, but there is one track deep into the record, sounding like it was recorded on a 2-track, bounced back 'n' forth which is as good as any classic Pollard track circa Alien Lanes/B1000 = 'Be It Not For The Serpentine Dodger'
  8. Speaking of Zimmerman . . . The Basement Tapes
  9. I agree with most of your ratings. As for the holy trinity, I agree....and may I add Propeller, Mag Earwig, Isolation Drills, and on and on and on and on. This is a current mix of 'up' material post FaCE - NH. Things Have Changed (Down in Mexico City) - Elephant Jokes Stiff Me - Elephant Jokes Symbols and Heads - Elephant Jokes Miles Under The Skin - Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love Johnny Optimist - Elephant Jokes Heavy Crown - Planets Are Blasted Gratification To Concrete - Off To Business Go For The Exit - Brown Submarine Canned Food Demons - Pla
  10. I'd hold off Todd as there are only a couple of good songs. The songs Richard recorded were left as is and just added to the record. That was basically the extent of their collaboration. That said, Richard's 'Grapes of Wrath' is one of the best songs on the record.
  11. Many good points all around. Lately, just trying to enjoy music has given way to the business of computers, external hard drives and becoming an administrator of my own record collection. As my wife calls it, doing all that "music garbage"
  12. As stated in a previous post, I'd include Dust of Daylight in that exclusive group of Windfall, Tear-Stained Eye & Methamphetamine. That said, Roll On & Pushed To Far are not far behind.
  13. After listening to Dust of Daylight, I dont understand how you could feel that way. It's a near perfect song, which in my opinion will be recognized over time alongside Windfall, Tear-Stained Eye and Methamphetamine as "classics" from the Farrar oeuvre.
  14. Dear Stephen @ Pitchfork, You need to listen to the record 5 or 6 more times. Then enroll in a course on non-fiction writing. Then punch a clock for a few years to gain life experience. Then scam free records from your day job. Then consider writing for a jerkwater music website. Then think better of it and slink off into the night.

  16. from billybragg.co.uk Jay Bennett RIP 26/05/09 We are very sorry to have to report the death of Jay Bennett, the former Wilco member who worked with Billy on the hugely successful Mermaid Avenue albums. Jay, a multi-instrumentalist, died of unknown causes in his sleep at home in Illinois over the weekend. Billy said: "I'm very sorry to hear that Jay Bennett has passed away, aged just 45. He was a cat who could get the most beautiful music out of any instrument you put in front of him, which made him a real asset during the Mermaid Avenue sessions. "It was his playing on guitar and ke

  18. BBN has a definite 'Spoon' vibe' to it.
  19. That's correct. "Real world" speakers are generally what's used when mixing records. When you want to get excited by the "sound" of the tracks, it's very common to switch to another set of speakers. While they sound generally horrible during playback, Yamaha NS-10's are still used for mixing records. The reason being tracks that sound good on playback tend to sound amazing in any other listening environment. That's one example. The obvious last resort is taking a disc out to the car to listen as well.
