  1. I think he did Souled Out!! after NYC-Gone, Gone too. I personally dug his set and was really happy he did mostly songs from his self-titled album. He seemed to really polarize the audience though. People either liked it or hated it
  2. Two kids in fact! I think they were like 12 years old and looked to be having a blast
  3. Even though I'm bummed the show got cancelled due to the storms, it was definitely a unique and amazing experience being up front in the pit during I'm the Man Who Loves You. It is too bad we didn't hear more songs.. the band was on.
  4. The Brewery Exchange isn't bad at all, and it's about a 5 minute walk from the stadium. That said, I'll be rushing to get there from a teacher's exam so I won't be there
  5. I'd love to see one from Tanglewood last summer when he had 2 gongs behind him. One of the funniest moments I've ever witnessed at a concert
  6. I've been listening to The 59 Sound since this thread started and love it to death. I finally picked up Sink or Swim and I'm pleased to say that its just as good as The 59 Sound. Can't wait to play this one for the rest of the summer
  7. That's too bad you didn't get to take any pictures. I saw someone with a huge camera snapping some pictures right in front of Will near the end of the set. That's kind of a funny venue though. Me and my friend bought our tickets separately and I ended up in one of the gated in GA areas so he had to give me his wristband so I could get up front for the show. I'm glad it was such a quiet show in general too, because on the really rocking songs (Hard Life, Sheep, Keep Eye on Other's Gain), it was impossible to hear his vocals through that tiny PA system. Despite that though, it was an oddly cozy
  8. This thread turned sour quickly. I did however, just get back from his show at the Wilbur Theater in Boston and it was simply stunning. The crowd was silent the whole show and Will and his band were just engaging the whole time playing a nice 2 hour set drawing from the majority of his career. Here's a partial list of what he played: EDIT: I came up with a complete setlist on last.fm. I have no idea what How About Thank You or Champion are. New songs maybe? I Am Goodbye Hard Life Lie Down in the Light Sheep You Want That Picture Where is the Puzzle? New Partner Careless Love Even If Love
  9. I'm not exactly sure, but there might be. I know they recently built a big parking lot where there wouldn't be tailgating, but they used to also use two big lots that did allow it. I'm not totally sure if they still use the other lots. So in other words, I don't know.. but I'll find out.
  10. Big Country. I can't say that without cracking a smile
  11. Apples and oranges. I love both lyricists.. Tweedy in a personal sit and think about it kind of way, Craig Finn in a wander around drunkenly in a dorm building and write quotes on those dumb white boards on doors kind of way
  12. I have the Sky Blue Sky tote and I use it for vinyl. That's manly enough if you ask me
  13. The lyrics on this album are certainly interesting, and I need to spend more time focusing on them and reading them, etc before I comment on meanings of the majority of the songs. I do however, want to say something about Wilco the Song. This is a really funny and interesting lyric for me because quite simply, I can't think of an example from rock music that has lyrics like this. The closest comparison I can come up with is a rap song in which the MC just uses standard freestyle type verses and brags. Obviously Wilco is a tad humbler, but it is interesting to hear such a straightforward statem
  14. There is a weird kind of eq/reverb thing on the Reminder. There's some piercing frequencies that get kind of amplified by the reverb.. I hear it most on So Sorry. It doesn't really bother me, but it's there. Country Disappeared is a nice track, but they could've done more with it. When I first heard it, I almost heard it getting an Ashes treatment or at least some mellotron or strings. The arrangement is pretty boring on the record, but the lyrics and especially that chorus melody are really beautiful
  15. The Hold Steady board just called us suck-ups and said that we were obviously going down on the whole thing. Let's get 'em guys!
  16. There's a CD there called The Great Divide. Not sure who it's by but i have a pretty good hunch... http://www.amazon.com/Great-Divide-Scott-S...1317&sr=1-4
  17. Closing in on 10 listens and this thing just refuses to quite growing on me. It's really better every time. The sequencing of You and I after BBN is so great too. It's almost as if BBN is a dream and he wakes up from it next to his wife. So many ranges of emotion on this record, and each song is so unique, but not lacking in quality at all
  18. Um.. I know a lot of people that still do this. You get a really strange sense of levels sometimes when you're listening on amazing speakers. For example, if you have huge subs in a studio, you wind up mixing the bass a lot lower than you normally would. It's still fairly common practice to listen to mixes in a variety of environments to make sure it sounds right when played in a way that normal people would be listening to it.
  19. This is very true. A lot of producers will listen to mixes on crappy car speakers in order to make sure they sound good in places other than huge studio monitors. I do think this record is well produced though. Instruments are clear and everything is really well textured
  20. I do want to note how much quicker paced this is than any record since AM. Pretty much every album has started out with a long track with the exception of SBS, but that had YAMF and Impossible Germany in the 2-3 spots. It works really well though.. After 6 minutes, you're fully wrapped up in the record and you've already covered a TON of territory
  21. Yeah I heard that on the Bridge School recording. Thankfully the rest of the song sounds nothing like On and On and On
  22. Alright, just finished the first listen. I really really like it. Beautiful production, awesome arrangements. Love what Nels brought to the table this time.. a lot less showy and more textural and interesting. Bull Black Nova is the obvious highlight, but I also really loved Sonny Feeling, Everlasting, Deeper Down, and One Wing. DEFINITELY going to need a good amount of listens to let it all sink in and have the subtleties sneak out at me.. can't say that was an issue with SBS which was a more immediate, but ultimately less rewarding record than Ghost or YHF. All good things, now let's just gi
