  1. My request of Remember the Mountain Bed got played in New Haven last February. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a ticket
  2. When I read the Boston Globe this morning and saw that Sigur Ros was playing in Boston in September, I was thoroughly excited, so I went online to see if I could find any more info on the concert at Sigur Ros' official site. I didn't find any mention of the concert, but I did find that they decided to stream their new album on their official website this morning. I'm 7 songs in, and it just might be the best album of the year. Here's a link: http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/band/disco/medsud-dot.php Enjoy
  3. That part is brilliant. Pure genius.
  4. Now having the full album, I can come up with a pretty good opinion on the whole thing. Dreamin' and The Angel and The One are undoubtedly Weezer classics. I also think Troublemaker and The Greatest Man rock and are a lot of fun. The rest of the album is really forgettable and bad for me. I'll have to wait to see how the 4 bonus tracks are before I get really mad about the 3 songs by the other members being on there (not a fan of any of them).
  5. I agree it doesn't flow very well. One of the best parts of BAGIA is how after First Night, they hit you with 3 really great anthems in a row. It seems like every time the band gets something good going, they throw a stick in the spokes. Enough of the negativity though. I do wanna say how much I love some of these songs. Constructive Summer is a perfect call-to-arms opener, and a really great soundtrack to the beginning of my summer vacation. Yeah Sapphire and Magazines are some of the poppiest songs they've ever done, but I love them both. His vocals are so strong on this album, and the ly
  6. Once you get past the awkward harpsichord opening, One for the Cutters is actually really great, especially lyrically. Not surprisingly, the more traditional songs are the best ones on the album because the band just sounds comfortable. Still a great album though
  7. Besides that, the song is just a total mess in almost every regard (The bridge is pretty cool). Plus, I think the lyrics are mostly throw-away one liners. In general, it's definitely the Same Kooks of this album, except without a bitchin' organ solo
  8. I really love the album. Not as great as BAGIA, but it's probably my 2nd favorite Hold Steady album. I really hate Navy Sheets, but songs like Magazines, Yeah Sapphire, Constructive Summer, and Lord I'm Discouraged are just classic.
  9. I still think 60% is a gross overstatement, but then again, as per our previous conversation, you would put Ballad of a Thin Man in the 60%, so we clearly see things differently. As for the conversation of modern songwriting being the way it is because of Dylan, I wouldn't say that's far off. Before Dylan, lyrics in songs were based more in hooks and sing-songy rhymes. Even the Beatles changed the way they approached lyrics because of Dylan (see: Rubber Soul onward). He put an emphasis on lyrics that wasn't there before, and almost forced songwriters to write more meaningful and poetic lyri
  10. Hmm Wayne. It seems I'm not the only one here that's terribly misguided
  11. I voted for the 2nd option. Yes, I feel as though the Belicheck years have still been INCREDIBLE, and the teams accomplishments are still amazing, it is a little sad to know that the team was still willing to do it after getting the memo saying explicitly not to do it. That said, I do agree that the Matt Walsh thing is a joke and I have no problems even if the team did use cameras during the Rams super bowl. It wasn't necessarily illegal at that point. I think everyone's trying to sweep it under the rug at this point, or at least, they should be.
  12. I only got a chance to watch from Weekend Update on but I thought there were some funny bits. It seemed to be a much funnier episode than when Wilco played. Also, Bill Hader is hilarious
  13. Yeah, The Greatest Man and Dreamin' are great. Troublemaker is also pretty cool. But the rest of the album is still very mediocre
  14. For SNL, I think I'm Amazed is a given. As for the other track, I'd say it's between Evil Urges, Thank You Too, and Aluminum Park, all of which would be great. I also want to say just how much this new album as really grown on me. Some tracks I didn't like initially (Touch Me pt 1, Librarian, Two Halves), are now great songs for me, and my initial favorites (Aluminum Park, Look at You, Smokin', I'm Amazed) have yet to get any duller for me. In fact, this album is better on every listen, and I've listened to it 15-20 times. I've even come to terms with Highly Suspicious, and can listen to it
  15. I found it on google blog search. It seems pretty above average for this decade's weezer albums so far! still pretty weak lyrically, but great production and more enthused performances in general
  16. Correction: Do you sound like Supertramp?
  17. It's funny because DMB was my favorite band before I found Wilco some 5 years ago. All the problems I had with DMB (the aforementioned holding out for the special venues, Dave's voice going to hell, and new songs lacking in any kind of substance), were completely out of the picture for Wilco. I've never seen a Wilco show that was anything less than stellar, and their songs and musicianship continue to evolve and improve. In regards to the actual topic, it is very surprising that Wilco is playing Tanglewood. The only popular artists that play there are more in the classic rock world, so to pu
  18. I Heard You Looking Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind Sugarcube Our Way to Fall Deeper Into Movies What can I say? I just love those feedback freakouts
  19. Pretty much all of We're Just Friends. For me, it's just very high school poetry-esque, and is a blemish on an otherwise brilliant album
  20. I'm Wide Awake was one of the most immediate albums I've ever heard. An instant classic. Lifted is an absolute mess and overly ambitious, but there's some great songs in there. The rest of the albums are pretty good with some amazing song scattered in there, but overall, I think Conor still has a little ways to go before I start comparing him to any classic songwriter
  21. I hope your blues show is going stupid and that you forgot to tune down to Eb so you have to play Third Stone from the Sun for 20 minutes in the wrong key I also hope you get Bruce tickets tomorrow
  22. The Hold Steady - Hornets! Hornets! and pretty much every Sufjan Stevens title
  23. I like Jack Johnson alright. His last album was probably his best yet, and I've seen video of him playing live and it seemed pretty good. However, I don't understand his headlining. I don't care how popular he is. He just doesn't have the kind of energy that's needed to bring people to the main stage. As far as Wilco goes, I'm not sure they'd be good for a headlining slot either. When I saw them at Bonnaroo last summer, they were the perfect late Sunday afternoon come down. They were relatively mellow and I was able to just relax and enjoy my favorite band. Although my foot will likely be i
  24. There's a lot of amazing Elvis Costello in the 80s. King of America, Blood & Chocolate, Imperial Bedroom, Trust and Get Happy! are all worth checking out Bruce Springsteen - The River, Nebraska Pixies - Doolittle Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique The Cure - Disintegration The Smiths - Meat is Murder, The Queen is Dead or any of the compilations Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy Donald Fagen - Nightfly Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation any of the U2 or REM albums (War and Life's Rich Pageant are my favorites, respectively) Talking Heads - Remain in Light Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain Princ
  25. Very nice Walken! I'm from the Boston area too so maybe I'll check you guys out sometime!
