Oh well haha. This EP is really great though. I do wish they had included Wisconsin as part of the tracklist. It was only an itunes bonus song and I feel like it would've fit really well in the album sound-wise. For fun, and because I'm into this sort of thing, I came up with an alternate version of the EP's tracklist: 1. Babys Pt. 1 (I would split the track during the bread before the last verse) 2. Blood Bank 3. Beach Baby 4. The Woods 5. Wisconsin 6. Babys Pt. 2 (Picks up at the break) Eh??

I always thought T-Pain used auto-tune... hmm. Either way, I'm pretty sure there's no auto-tune on Woods. The way the voice sort of trills at the beginning sounds more like something that would be played on a keyboard than simply a result of auto-tune. Either way, its a cool song. This whole EP is really really nice. I would've liked one more track that's a true song-song, since both Babys and Woods are more exercises in atmosphere and dynamics, but regardless, it's a nice little end of the year gift. Lastly, I must thank Solace for getting me into Bon Iver. You're the resident fanati

Also, in reference to discussions about vocoder vs. auto-tune, basically, a vocoder is when a someone sings into a microphone connected to a keyboard. The keyboard indicates the pitch and the sound. Auto-tune is just taking the existing vocals and changing the pitches through a computer program. For some good examples of each of these, anything by Imogen Heap for Vocoder, and T-Pain (haha) for auto-tune

So apparently this EP has leaked. I just downloaded it, and am 2 tracks in. So far both Blood Bank and Beach Baby are fantastic. No magic lost since the 1st album

I love so many Hold Steady lyrics, but this one in particular has stuck out for me lately: Working backwards from the doctor to the drugs. From the packie to the taxi to the cabbie to the club. A thousand kids will fall in love in all the clubs tonight. A thousand other kids will end up gushing blood tonight. Two thousand kids wont get too much sleep tonight. Two thousand kids they still feel pretty sweet tonight. I still feel pretty sweet. Seeing them on Sunday in Boston. Can't wait!

Thanks to this thread and the fact that it's 1:45am and I can't sleep, I'm currently checking out April by Sun Kil Moon. All I can say is so far so good. His voice reminds me of Jason Molina, and the songs are really lovely. We'll see how this climbs up on my list in a couple days

Yeah, I really don't think that's true at all. I voted for He Doesn't Know Why based almost completely on the piano coda. And while this is a really great album, the EP is much better, and the album could've really done without Heard Them Stirring. It's a pretty song and all, but the last thing this album needs more of is atmosphere, and this song doesn't provide much more than that.

I may ruffle a few feathers here, but Garth Hudson of the Band sucked. He was a technically great player and when he played piano, came up with some great lines. However, his cheesy, out of tune synth sounds nearly ruin the entire catalog of The Band. I can't believe no one ever called him out on it. Really, just watch the Last Waltz and listen to him vomit all over Mannish Boy, Helpless, and well... pretty much everything. Also, Patti from The E Street Band

This is my number one without a doubt. A couple honorable mentions: The Hold Steady - Stay Positive My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges Okkervil River - The Stand-Ins -
I used to listen to "Only in Dreams" by Weezer before I ran the mile during track. It gave me relaxed focus while still pumping me up in the process

God Wayne. I wish I could've stayed to meet Jeff and that I could've got there earlier to enjoy the day. Alas, that's what happens when you hitch a ride with someone. Regardless, amazing show, and even last years song-guesser has to admit that my Pot Kettle Black guess what a stroke of genius I want to see them again so badly now!

A quick check-in before I go to sleep: Beautiful venue, beautiful weather, and most importantly, beautiful music. Also, let me be the first to ask if this was the biggest crowd Wilco has played to at a non-festival headlining show? The amount of people on that lawn was absurd. Anyway, Andrew Bird starting things off amazingly with an hour of great music. His setlist was something close to this: Instrumental Improv (Solo) Why? (Solo) Nervous Tic Motion Opposite Day Lull Plasticities Imitosis New Song Tables and Chairs Some of These Days I'll Be Gone (Charlie Patton cover) He was well rece

The new Alejandro record is great. People (We're Only Gonna Live So Long) is a really weak track for me, but Swallows of San Juan and Nun's Song are among the best songs he's ever written

My top 10 so far: 1. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago 2. The Hold Steady - Stay Positive 3. Okkervil River - The Stand-Ins 4. Sigur Ros - Med Sud... 5. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges 6. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely 7. Fleet Foxes - s/t (Their EP is unbelievable in my opinion. This one doesn't quite match it) 8. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Lie Down in the Light 9. Elvis Costello - Momofuku 10. Alejandro Escovedo - Real Animal British Sea Power is the only album this year that I really didn't like. The new Coldplay and Death Cab albums are both very good and are both in my top 20. Ov

Yeah that's the one I used. I found it in the liner notes for the album, and it seemed weird that they would use a gmail account. I thought maybe it was Justin's personal account so I sent him the email. It was his manager that responded, but he said that he showed Justin the email and that he really liked it

For Emma, Forever Ago has been one of my favorite albums in I can't remember how long, so I sent an email to the band telling them so, and Justin was gracious enough to give me 2 free tickets to the sold out show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The show was last night and it was so incredible. He played everything from the album as well as some covers and a new song which featured him singing in a lower register (and it rocked pretty hard too!). The band sounded great and Justin's voice was in fine form. Highlight's for me were Blindsided which had an outstanding jazzy guitar solo at th

Okkervil River is one of my favorite bands so I've been really looking forward to this one. A couple listens in and I can already tell this one's going to be a grower. I like all of the songs right now and some of them are incredible, but it's without a doubt their least catchy album since Down the River of Golden Dreams. Besides the melodies of Lost Coastlines and Bruce Wayne Campbell, there aren't too many hooks here. That said, the songs are beautiful and once I listen to this everyday for the next few weeks, I can tell things are going to sink in for me and Sheff's always brilliant lyrics

Me getting into them was a multi-step process. 1) I heard "One Big Holiday" on the radio sometime in 2003/2004 and got really excited about it. Then some guy called into the station screaming "OH MY GOD! THAT WAS AWESOME!! JESUS CHRIST! WHO WAS THAT?" The DJ replied "yes that was awesome! the band is called My Morning Jacket." Despite my initial excitement, I somehow never picked up a CD, but the name was kicking around in the back of my mind. 2) I saw them open for Wilco at Agganis Arena in June 2005 and loved it. They rocked unbelievably hard for the half empty stadium and I really enjoy

Anyone receive Tanglewood (Lenox) tix yet?
Killer Whales replied to wilcofreak's topic in Just A Fan
Gasol has very sunken eyes which Wayne doesn't have. The rest of him does look pretty similar I think -
Bob Dylan - Country Pie D'Angelo - Devil's Pie The Mountain Goats - Magpie (sorta?)

Anyone receive Tanglewood (Lenox) tix yet?
Killer Whales replied to wilcofreak's topic in Just A Fan
Hey Wayne, how much is my ticket for that anyway? Ryan Adams was 30 dollars so I figure I'll just split the difference when I see you next. Also, my entire family thinks that Pau Gasol looks like you -

David Rawlings is BY FAR my favorite alt-country guitarist. It's nice to see him recognized. I think he's highly under appreciated.
