'tis a classic that never grows tiresome . "We've gone on holiday by mistake." "I feel like a pig shat in my head." "How can it be so cold in here? It's like Greenland in here. We've got to get some booze. It's the only solution to this intense cold. Somethings got to be done. We can't go on like this! I'm a trained actor, reduced to the status of a bum! I mean, look at us! Nothing that reasonable members of society demand as their rights! No fridges, no televisions, no phones. Much more of this and I'm going to apply for Meals on Wheels." "I have just narrowly avoided having a buggeri

Here's a few worth checking out: Comedy: Withnail & I - Great British comedy with superb dialog. It has become somewhat of a cult classic over the years. Sci-fi: The Quiet Earth - Last-man-on-earth sci-fi film set in New Zealand. Horror/Thriller: The Tenant, Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby - You can't go wrong with any of those Polanski films. Drama: A Woman Under the Influence - Gena Rowlands is fantastic in this. Action: Vanishing Point - The king of all car chase movies. TV: Six Feet Under, Freaks and Geeks, Sports Night, Arrested Development...

It was about time that somebody released a nice transfer of this film. Many claim this film as the start of the French New Wave but Melville did this kind of thing a few years earlier with Bob le Flambeur. Anyway, this is a nice homage to American crime films that still holds up after all these years.

Agreed. She eclipsed recent performances by Spoon and the Shins by a country mile.

Last night: I thought this was one of Breillat's more straightforward and satisfying films. The film centers around a woman in her 30s, and a 16 year old boy who strike up an unlikely affair on an overnight boat cruise to England. The film plays around with male/female expectations regarding relationships, and though the characters follow traditional gender stereotypes in their behavior--for the most part--Breillat turns your beliefs about the whole encounter around in the final act, making you re-examine things from a different perspective. I think Freddy was picked partly because

If you haven't seen this version it would definitely be worth revisiting. Mann calls it his "directors preferred cut." The extra footage helps to give more depth to the William Petersen character in particular. Everyone talks about Hopkins, but Cox was a real good Lecter too I thought. You gotta love the guy. Apparently he stalked a few of the cast folk on the set. I guess he really got into the role. You're in for a treat. I haven't seen Red Dragon, but I'll go out on a limb and say you'll probably like this one a bit better .

All fine choices, but like others I would probably lean towards Primer.

I'm in the top 100 by a hair.

This is one of my favorites of the year. Javier Bardem was great as the psychotic killer, Brolin was good too. This was a nice return to the film noir elements of Blood Simple.

Some great ones mentioned already (Big Star, The Only Ones, Beach Boys, Nick Lowe, The Cure...) Here's a few 2-3 minute songs I put on a power pop compilation a while back that would fit the bill: No Matter What - Badfinger A Million Miles Away - The Plimsouls Flavor of the Month - The Posies I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick This Is Where I Belong - Bill Lloyd The Good In Everyone - Sloan Someday, Someway - Marshall Crenshaw Places That Are Gone - Tommy Keene Black and White - The Db's Nuclear Boy - 20/20 She's So Young - The Pursuit of Happiness Karate Man - The Super Friendz Starry Ey

For a change Delon plays the cop, though he isn't far removed from the bad guy existentialists he's played in previous Melville films. This might not be Melville's best, but it is a decent crime drama, and it does sport a French speaking Richard Crenna, as well as the lovely Catherine Deneuve.

Mainly 'cause I want to hear "Dress Sexy at My Funeral."

I was wondering when he was going to surface again. I'm looking forward to the new one.

Great record. Zep fans would find this interesting as it has the original version of Dazed and Confused.

That was a good film, real bittersweet and touching. Another decent music doc of late is Be Here to Love Me. It's worth checking out if you're a Townes Van Zandt fan.

I have the old DVD issue of this one, not sure how bad I want this new one though.

I still like the Office, but I think 30 Rock has started to eclipse it somewhat as it's the show I've picked to watch first on the PVR the last few weeks.
