  1. It's Achilles Heel. There's some real good songs on that one. Is the band still going, or is David solo now?
  2. It's a jazzy night... now where's my damn cocktail?
  3. Miles Davis - Complete In a Silent Way Sessions (One of my favorite Miles records, well, this and a half dozen others.)
  4. I think the problem that cryptique is alluding to, is that often people come in here having just joined, and the first thing they post about is their band. These people usually disappear right after this. It happens all the time, and though there's nothing wrong with promoting your band, it's just so obviously self-serving when you do so without even bothering to post in any other threads. p.s. I have one Pedro the Lion disc I quite like.
  5. I talked to a few people who know about such things the other day and they seemed to think that HD-DVD was the clear winner. Only time will tell I suppose.
  6. Finally got around to watching this gem of the 60's British New Wave. Richard Harris is quite affective as the "angry young man" trying to overcome his surroundings to make a better life.
  7. A little bit of 60's Sci-Fi tonight with some big time suspension of disbelief .
  8. I don't like the production on this one at all. Too much wall-of-sound, with no dynamics, and way too much studio processing and poor mixing.
  9. Check out The BelRays, they might fit the bill.
  10. The kid from those "Life" commercials.
  11. There was a time when Prince was probably my favorite artist (or at least the most influential on me.) I still think he's great, though his musical output has been very spotty since the 90's. Nevertheless he is still one of the most versatile and talented musicians in popular music (anyone that can play all the instruments he can gets my respect.) I still really love most of his 80's output, especially Purple Rain and Sign "O" the Times. Heck, I even like the Black Album which I bought on vinyl for $30-40 back in the days before it was officially released. Back then he was really a true
  12. Love, deceit, murder, it's all here in this low budget gem based on a true story. I liked the gritty b&w cinematography and the almost documentary film style of this one. Some interesting extras on this one like the interview with the writer/director. Cool tidbit: Martin Scorcese was the first director for this film, but ended up leaving 'cause he was too slow (apparently he spent all day shooting a scene with a beer can in a bush that wasn't even in the script.)
  13. This looks like an interesting concept. Unfortunately, unless the download-able version is available in a lossless audio format like FLAC, I'll have to wait for a proper CD release (I'm not a fan of compressed MP3 audio... okay for iPod, not for my stereo.)
  14. ^^ Agreed, Lost in Translation is great. The visual (and musical) mood and tone of the movie is perfect all the way through.
  15. I love that show too. It's definitely in my top 3 of all time.
  16. Dr. Ebbetts version--I do love the sound of these Ebbetts transfered Beatles discs (sound better than the commercial releases to me.)
  17. There's some interesting and inventive arrangements on there (made me think of Brian Wilson at times), but at times it all seems a bit too much. I think I'll need to spin it a couple more times before I know where I sit with it. NP: Lee Hazlewood - Requiem for an Almost Lady
  18. I think it was my parents that gave me the travel bug at an early age; it never went away. I've been to quite a few wonderful places. Here's a few favorites: http://www.belobrasil.ch/brasil/brasilien-cities/st
  19. Speaking of Let it Be... The Replacements, Let It Be > The Beatles. I just had to get that off my chest. That's probably my favorite Clapton song.
  20. The Beatles were a great band, but the Band weren't great Beatles.
  21. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam (finally getting around to listen to this one)
