Thanks for the kind offer cryptique. I'll check out Amazon first, if no luck there I may take you up on your offer.

Unfortunately I've never been able to track those 2 down. I believe they're out-of-print sadly. I'm hoping they get re-released someday.

I wasn't really a fan of hers before this one--only knew a few songs like Chuck E's in Love--but this one totally won me over. It's pretty great from start to finish.

I still break this one out a few times a year. Definitely a record that deserves some attention.

One of my favorites of the year.

Me too. I was a bit leery about this one when I saw the big names attached to it--Nicole Kidman, Jack Black, Jennifer Jason Leigh--but it didn't feel like a typical Hollywood film. Baumbach said when introducing the film, that he was able to do what he wanted without someone looking over his shoulder, just like his previous films. Kidman and Leigh were great as a pair of estranged sisters, and Black was surprisingly good as Leigh's somewhat depressed fiance (just be warned, he shows his bare ass in this one.)

Saw the Noah Baumbach film Margot at the Wedding the other night. If you liked his previous work you'll probably like this one too. This was a keenly observed story about family, and the problems that occur in families (jealousy, resentments, unexpressed feelings, regrets.) This one reminds me of 70's Woody Allen. Also saw a really dark Danish/Swedish comedy-drama called With Your Permission. This one is worth checking out, unfortunately I can't say the same about the new Peter Greenaway film Nightwatching. Today I saw the new Ken Loach film It's a Free World.... This one delves in

Saw 4 films at the fest today: No Country for Old Men - I really enjoyed this Coen brothers film. Javier Bardem was particularly good, and very creepy as a deranged killer. Encounters at the End of the World - Werner Herzog's new documentary about his trip to Antarctica. This was full of beautiful scenery and interesting characters. I was lucky enough to meet the man after the film, which was cool as he's one of my favorite filmmakers (very down to earth guy.) Silent Resident - German film set in a futuristic city. Very abstract in its execution. It reminded me a bit of early Cronen

Yeah, I always love going to the film fest. It looks like you have some good ones picked out there. I almost went to see "Control" the other day but couldn't fit it into the schedule. There's also a Joy Division doc at the fest here but I think I'll wait for the DVD. Yesterday: Dinner with the President: A Nation's Journey - Interesting look at the current political climate in Pakistan and how hard it is to make changes within a strict Islamic culture. The filmmaker was a woman which made it even more interesting, especially when she challenged the president and various community leade

I started watching his short movie "Coven" which was one of the extras on the disc. Hmm..... Saw a bunch of films at the Toronto Film Fest today. Les Amours d'Astree et de Celadon - I saw this one 'cause it was an Eric Rohmer film. Not his best, but entertaining enough. L'Avocat de la Terreur - This was a real interesting Barbet Schroeder doc about Jacques Verg

Was reading earlier: It's a Big Star day all around.

I'm a big fan of Todd's music but I have to agree there are many others equally as strong and under-appreciated: Greg Brown Ron Sexsmith Guy Clark (somebody already mentioned him, but he deserves to be mentioned again) Steve Young Dan Reeder

Telecasters are great guitars. I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely.

That's what I heard too. The issue with Jeff on the cover seems to be the last one unfortunately.

Now I know what Vanishing Point crossed with Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! would look like. This film isn't as good as either of those films, but it was entertaining nevertheless. I may have to pop Vanishing Point into the machine next--probably my favorite car chase movie ever.

Jeff Tweedy and Ryan Adams should write an album together.

I don't think either one would bring much to the other's music to be honest. Maybe during the Being There days they may have had some common ground, not so much now though. -
And I'm sure even more people would have weighed in about Townes if he hadn't already been discussed so much over the years already. Needless to say, a good portion of people who listen to Wilco know and love Townes

^^ Well said A_Wheel. I think saying the guy is a prick when you haven't even met him is a bit unjust. I know there have been a few times where I've based my opinion (negatively) about someone solely on the words they've posted on a site like this. I've often been proven wrong when I've actually met them in person. You just can't get the full picture in words alone sometimes.

I bought the whole series on DVD a while back. I usually end up watching an episode or 2 when I don't have the time for a movie, like last night. Even after all these years this series is still one of my all-time favorites.

He definitely had a very particular way of writing and singing, and didn't really deviate from that sound too much over the years. He did bring a directness and honesty that was refreshing though, plus he could kill you with those heartbreaking songs. Dylan and Waits are great but I don't think either can do the sincere and sad quite like Townes could.

She's done some great roles. I always thought she was an underrated actress. Nice to see she has good taste in music.

Too bad you only replaced the strip club scenes .

I filled my film noir jones tonight with this classic. This one is very entertaining, tightly paced, with some great camera work and inventive shots. Probably the best picture set on a train that isn't Strangers on a Train.

Tonight: Powerful film. Interesting look at the power of the Stasi in East Germany and how the lives of people on both sides of the party line were irrevocably changed. I liked Hot Fuzz, but I must say I preferred Shaun of the Dead a little bit more. Either way, they're both quite entertaining.
