That's too bad. I remember seeing them in the late 80s. My ears were ringing for days, possibly the loudest show I've ever experienced.

I think that was the funniest line of the whole show.

I highly recommend his last few records: "Fate's Right Hand," "The Houston Kid," and "The Outsider." All excellent Crowell records. He seems to be getting better with age. NP:

Absolutely! I prefer her cover versions to the originals a lot of the time. She sure has covered some great ones: Dylan, Cohen, Young, Newman...

Very nice work Todd. I particularly love the guitar interlude that enters halfway through the song, and returns at the end in electric form. The chorus is nice and catchy. I also like that the song doesn't follow standard pop structures. The breakdown after the interlude is good, but I must admit it reminded me a bit too much in the beginning of that Killers song with the "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" part. I'm not a fan of some of the hi-hat patterns in the opening verses: they tend to be more distracting than complimentary, and don't always work for me in relation to the rest of -
This is a perfect collection to get you better acquainted with her catalog. This one spans her career, which I think is the first collection to do so. Highly recommended. I always associate that song with Billie Holiday. I don't think I've heard Nina's version.

I really dug the San Quentin box set they released a while back. I'm sure I'll be upgrading to this Folsom Prison set too.

I read that book a while back. It's a good read for fans, with some nice insights into the history of the band.

I like both bands, but I don't think Bob or Grant ever wrote anything as moving or powerful as Paul's best songs. Paul probably injected more of himself in his songs, than Bob, but that doesn't make the songs less timeless. On the contrary, some of his biggest heart-on-sleeve songs are probably his most timeless (Unsatisfied, Here Comes a Regular, Can't Hardly Wait...) Another thing that puts the Mats ahead of Husker for me is their versatility in sound and mood. They could go from humor to pathos lyrically, and musically they touched upon everything from punk, rock, folk, country, to blues an
