  1. Agreed. The rest of the episode was some of the best stuff they've done in ages. They definitely didn't need to insert so many of of those Jack Black segments. Nevertheless, they did provide some funny moments:
  2. A Lucille Ball comedy/musical and a film noir. The girl could do it all.
  3. Joe Cocker's air guitar face is pretty awesome.
  4. I gave this a few listens with guitar in hand and determined this is tuned to: C#, F#, C#, F#, A#, F# (D, G, D, G, B, D tuned down a half step) Here's some of the chords used too. --0---0---0---0-- --3---3---3---3-- --0---0---2---0-- --0---0---0---0-- --4---3---2---0-- ------------------- I feel beautiful ---------0-------------- -3---3---3---5--8---3- -2---0---0---4--7---2- -0---0---0---2--5---0- -2---5---0----------2- ------------------------- or ---------0---2--5-------- -3---3---3---0--0---3- -2---0---0---0--0---2- -0---0---0---2--5---0- -2---5---0----------2- --------------
  5. Nico Scott Walker (reclusive genius, does that count?)
  6. The Rolling Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (B-side of "Honky Tonk Women.") The Replacements "If Only You Were Lonely" (B-side of "I'm in Trouble.") The Beatles "Revolution" Hank Williams "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" (B-side of "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It.") Gene Vincent "Be-Bop-A-Lula" (B-side of "Woman Love.") Rod Stewart "Maggie May" Smiths "How Soon Is Now?"
  7. This one always blows me away: Lindsey Buckingham - Big Love (YouTube) His ability to play difficult passages while singing is something to marvel at.
  8. Some records click right away, but usually it takes 3-4 listens for me to see the whole picture: each listen usually reveals something I didn't pick-up on the previous go through.
  9. Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison (Legacy Edition)
  10. I liked that one too. His follow up "The Visitor" was pretty good too.
  11. Good record. I haven't listened to it in a few months, time to remedy that. p.s. Sounds like a good bill. Good luck with the show.
  12. Great song, but that one has bass on it. I'd thought of Laughner's "Sylvia Plath" earlier but that has bass on it too.
  13. That is one of my all-time favorite films : If I recall correctly, Fassbinder filmed it in 20 some odd days in-between working on another film. Little did he probably realize at the time that he was making one of his most enduring classics.
  14. A year after Hudson and Wyman made All That Heaven Allows, they were back together playing similar roles in this one. Though not as good a film as that one, this is still worth watching. What can I say, I'm a sucker for Douglas Sirk melodramas.
  15. I haven't seen that, but it is on my shortlist of films to see in the next little while. I'm slowly catching up on the current crop of films: Watched "Wendy and Lucy" and "Slumdog Millionaire" yesterday. Today I'm hoping to watch "Frost/Nixon."
  16. Agreed. I haven't seen either film in many years, but I do recall thinking Shakespeare was the better of the 2 films at the time and was happy it won. Saving Private Ryan was impressive technically, but it didn't stir me as much as it should have considering the gravitas of the subject. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was good, but as far as war films go, it wouldn't even make my top 10. Part of the problem for me was the casting: Tom Hanks is not as good an actor as he's made out to be--maybe it's just me. The film also had too much of a Hollywood blockbuster gild around the edges. I pr
  17. That is sad news for us SJ fans, but I'd be really surprised if we didn't hear anything musical from Mr. Berman again. Sometimes taking a break from what you love, and going down a new path leads you right back to where you started in the end.
  18. 60s cinema verite style mockumentary. Quite liked this one.
  19. Good topic. Jackson C. Frank - Blues Run the Game Skip James - Devil Got My Woman Paul Westerberg - Lush and Green Terry Callier - Lean on Me (demo version) Nick Drake - Place to Be (Pink Moon if not for the piano) Loudon Wainwright III - Motel Blues
