  1. I get the "this is a stunt" vibe after watching this.
  2. To Kill a Mockingbird - One of the few instances were book and movie are both great in their own right. Low: You May Need a Murderer - Interesting glimpse into the lives of the bands 2 principals. The film follows them around on a local tour as well as filming them at home. Alan Sparhawk provides some interesting monologues about religion and living in America. Some great acoustic performances included throughout as well. Rachel Getting Married - Enjoyed the natural pacing and its voyeuristic glimpse into family dynamics. The film is about getting into the stuff that festers but usually do
  3. Lionel Hampton - The Complete Lionel Hampton Victor Sessions 1937-1941
  4. It might not be bragging, it all depends on who it was .
  5. I love that movie. Handing out glass bottles at the screening seems like a fun idea. I can dig it!
  6. I almost got dragged to this film yesterday but decided to hang some curtains instead. I heard they used a Replacements song in the film, anyone catch it?
  7. Graham Parker - That's When You Know: The Acoustic Demos & Live at Marble Arch
  8. I only know a couple of her songs, but what I've heard sounds okay. She has a solid foot in the past with the soul/blues influences which is great in my books. The potential is definitely there assuming good songs come her way in the future. p.s. Isn't the best new artist award like the kiss of death? Past winners often ended up residing in the where-are-they-now file faster than a shoe flying at George W.'s head.
  9. I was definitely missing Ringo during that song. Grohl is a great drummer, but he played too hard, and employed too much crash. The song just needed to be played simple and with more subtlety. Another issue I had was with the guitarist, especially the guy playing the fills and solos. Too much flash, not enough musicality.
  10. Saw "Rachel Getting Married" yesterday. A character sings an a cappella version of "Unknown Legend" which led me back to the source.
  11. Making Plans for Nigel Senses Working Overtime Great Fire Love on a Farmboy's Wages The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead Dear God
  12. Hunger - Knut Hamsun A Fan's Notes - Frederick Exley Where I'm Calling From - Raymond Carver Tropic of Cancer - Henry Miller The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger (also these ones: The Stranger, Bad Behavior, Ask the Dust, Stranger in This World, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...)
  13. I like a lot of the ones already mentioned: Hendrix, Neil, Gilmour... a few others to add to the list: Paul Westerberg - Eyes Like Sparks (the guitar sound on this is killer!) B.B. King Larry Carlton
  14. A newer band that popped to mind is: Horse Feathers I like the Alejandro Escovedo mention above. You'll find tasteful use of cello and violin on most of his records. Matt Pond PA Tindersticks
  15. Just got this. On my first listen through now.

  17. Thought of a few more: Fred Neil - Did great work in the 60s, then suddenly dropped out of music, leading a reclusive life in Florida until his death. Gary Wilson - check out the You Think You Really Know Me disc. Arthur Brown Larry "Wild Man" Fischer
  18. Thankfully I just found a lossless version and am in the process of grabbing it. Thanks for the offer, and reminding me about that great record. :
  19. Nice one! It pisses me off that I can't find my copy of this anymore. Seeing that it's out-of-print, I'm off to find a copy elsewhere... NP: Orange Humble Band - Assorted Creams Power pop fans should check this one out (Ken Stringfellow sings lead and Mitch Easter plays some guitar and co-produced it.)
  20. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd
