  1. Is it really that unusual that most of the general public hasn't seen these movies yet? A lot of Oscar contenders are given a limited release just to be eligible thereby making it difficult, if not impossible, for a majority of movie-goers to see them yet.
  2. Maybe not an all-time favorite, but the relatively recent "Guaranteed" from Eddie Vedder's "Into the Wild" OST is great too!
  3. One thing we noticed, there were title cards indicating when things were happening. That is new to the show, no? It would say "Three years ago" and things like that. They jumped around in time in previous season without acknowledging it. I wonder if that has significance or if they simply want to try to make it more accessible to those that don't follow it all that closely.
  4. I do love Heretics and Simple X. Plasticities and Imitosis are also good songs, but lost me after a while.
  5. Like I said, different strokes. We obviously aren't drawn to the same things in music. I find MPoE much catchier too, but also with more staying power. With Sovay, Fake Palindromes, Nervous Tic..., Measuring Cups, Masterfade, Opposite Day, Skin Is, My, Naming of Things and Tables & Chairs all tracks I could still listen to over and over again after countless spins. Even the tracks I don;t mention compare favorably for me with anything on AA.
  6. Yeah different strokes I guess. I found NB more interesting than AA right off the bat. But the tracks that I still come back to on AA are things like Armchairs, which didn't sink in right away for me. A lot of the album got old fast. Songs like Dark Matter and Fiery Crash I never listened to after the first few spins. There just isn't much there other than a decent hook, IMO. Like I said above, it's all about how you approach music and different things move different people in different ways, making album reviews completely accurate to exactly one person.
  7. ALthough last night's episode seemed to hint that Locke really does die, I still think they may have faked his death with the spider that made everyone think Paulo and Nikki were dead. It's possible they just simply dropped their storyline completely when people bitched, but the spider would give their existence SOME meaning. Also did anyone else notice that Lindleoff said about Sun "she believes Jin is dead" (paraphrased)? Hmmm...
  8. Haven't read the PF review yet, but I'd agree with you that I'd score all three (at least) a point higher (MPoE is near flawless for me). But I would swap the AA and NB scores. MPoE - 9.5 NB - 8.8 AA - 8.5 ETA: okay I read the review. It seems to me, his only complaints were that it challenges you and takes a while ti sink in (a HUGE positive in my book) and that Bird has a tendency to use lyrics for mood and sound rather than beating you over the head with message and symbolism (another plus in my book). one o my favorite lyrics is: From the bottom of the lake as they draw I watched wa
  9. I apologize if this has been done before, but I didn't know how to search for it. I was just listening to "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" and thought this would be a good idea for a thread. What are some of your favorites?
  10. Yeah, but Joe's speeches can noodle on aimlessly with the best of them!
  11. I'll give you at least 1 cent change for that.
  12. Apples and oranges. Goodfellas is a movie about the mob. Godfather is a movie about family that happens to be about a mob family. I go back and forth over which one is better -- GF 1 or GF 2 -- but they are always ranked 1 and 2 in my all-time movies list.
  13. I thought Burn After Reading was merely a middle of the road Coen Bros. film. But my favorite line was with that FBI Head at the end when
  14. So I guess these guys released a new album today. Has anyone here heard it? I am a fan of FZ, King Crimson, Phish, etc., so I have given these guys a LOT of chances and have seen them live probably five times (that's a lot of chances, dontcha think?). But they just never do it for me. NOW I have friends telling me THIS is a the album I will love. Thoughts?
  15. Love it! I'm a huge Frisell fan. My (future) brother-in-law got a chance to jam with him last summer and it is about as envious as I get.
  16. This song just came on and I remembered how much I like this lyrics: Coyote's in the coffee shop He's staring a hole in his scrambled eggs He picks up my scent on his fingers While he's watching the waitresses' legs
  17. Of these I've only seen Slumdog, Dark Knight and Iron Man (although we have the Wall-E DVD, but haven't watched it yet). I am really hopeful that these three are not among the five best movies of the year.
  18. The fur trapper was pretty fucked up He had just been stomped upon and recited to by the entire contents of this audience And you know what that can do to a guy who's wearing a, a parka
  19. Yeah, I misspoke. I didn't mean Bon Iver, I meant Fleet Foxes. Brain fart, sorry.
  20. The new AC album? yes, and while my post was meant merely to poke fun at "your favorite band sucks"-type discussions, I truly do find the overbearing use of reverb to be huge turnoff. There is some good stuff buried under that reverb, I just have a hard time listening to it because of that reverb.
  21. So am I unhip because I think the reverb makes AC, PB and BI sound like shit?
