Top 3 most underwhelming bands/artists you've ever seen
lamradio replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Someone Else's Song
Goo Goo Dolls - Saw them by accident.. They opened for The Rolling Stones (I think it was 98 or 99) and they completely blew.. I think it was because they do in fact completely blow.. The Rolling Stones - I'm going to catch hell for this, but the show was disappointing. The drummer dragged the tempo REALLY bad the whole show. I kept thinking "shouldn't he be using an ear metronome or something?" Weezer - Saw them shortly after the release of Maladroit. It was mostly because it was a big ass amplitheatre, and I'm spoiled after seeing them in smaller venue's, preferably the Tremont Musi -
Who are the 5 best live bands you've ever seen?

You are now on my list of the coolest people alive because of that. -
Interesting that AGIB is in first right now. I just listened to it the other day, so that was my vote. But really, I'm just itching for new stuff and I haven't been listening to much of their studio stuff at all lately....

Wilco The Pixies Frank Black Weezer (Blue Album - Pinkerton era) Nels Cline Singers Honorable mention: The Wailers I'm not a big White Stripes fan, but they sure do put on a hell of a show. -

Wow. And wow. -
Well yes probably. But I also like songs that could and do mean several things. Like "She's A Jar"... There can be many different interpretations of what that song means.. Also, "Jesus Etc." is another one.

Coming from a songwriter, this is why lyrics have always been my least favorite part of song writing.. In fact, many times I see them as an inconvenience. If I could get away with just humming melodies through all of my songs, I would do it in a heart beat. Why? Because lyrics are so apparent, so unconcealed, when the music part of the song effects the mind/soul in ways that cannot be put into words... I don't want the listener to be told what the song is about with lyrics.. I want them to determine that for themselves.
-
I'm still sticking by my almost obsessive compulsive attitude of "I dont want to hear any new songs until the album is out"... So I haven't heard the song... I actually shouldn't be in this thread... lol But seriously, you also make a good point Three dollars and 63 cents. I seriously doubt Jeff has started to write songs to become "trendy" or for "show" or for a political agenda.. Unless Jeff has an evil clone or something, he's just not that kind of song writer.... That little article entry just left a bad taste in my mouth, but I guess we'll just see when the album is released.
-
I can't truly judge it until I actually hear it, but if it's anything like the article suggests then that's kind of sad.. I have always thought of Jeff as the type of song writer that leaves it up to the listener to determine what the song is really about.... If he is going to write a song that has a clear message "These last 8 years with Bush have sucked", then it'll be disappointing to me..
-
No That is quite nauseating, and is actually pretty damn disheartening. I can't stand it when bands bring politics into their music... I was hoping Wilco would never do this..
-
It could be that its getting mixed/mastered there.
-
I'm sort of obsessed right now with being completely surprised when it comes out.. I think if/when the album leaks, I will completely avoid threads that discuss the album.. I might even plug my ears if/when they play new songs at the concert I will be attending in April.. No, not really, but you get my point.. It's Wilco.. If it sounds like AGIB, if it sounds like SBS, if it sounds like nothing we've heard, it's still Wilco.. It's going to be good quality Rock Music.

"Enjoy The Silence" is a great, great tune.
-
Below the belt bro.. haha He did one song with a female that can be found on the Singles compilation, but I don't remember the name of the song or who the female singer was.
-
I dig One Wing too.. I don't think it's possible for me to say that I hate any Wilco song really.. There are some that I like more than others, but I just like the way Jeff writes songs.. Even the weaker songs are still great IMO.

I lived in Boston for two years so I have seen some pretty nasty weather. The first year I was there in 2001, there was a major blizzard. They closed school for a week.. Thats saying a lot when they actually close schools up North..
-
The Wilco Song Rocks the Casbah. Very cool tune, and it does remind me of Summerteeth.
-
You're right about that. They actually canceled school again yesterday, and they have a two hour delay today!! wtf..
-
I've heard One Wing, Wilco Song, and Sunny Feeling, and I have stopped there.. I think it spoils the surprise to listen to new songs, and especially if the album leaks.. It takes a lot of restraint not to listen to leaks but I'm going to try really hard. There's nothing better than going to your little ma and pop record store on the day the album is released, picking up the CD and popping it in the car CD player, and hearing all or most of the songs for the first time.. Great feeling. I still remember the feeling when I first heard the opening guitar to "Either Way"..
-
Yeah, I heard they just started mixing. That in itself can take months, and then it has to be mastered.

Snow day in upstate South Carolina as well. It all melted by 11 AM though (as always) and now I'm at work...
-
Exactly. The site of the last major confederate victory. I plan to go there one day.

It's always awesome to experience front row or even a few rows back, but once you've done it, I personally prefer to be farther back. The sound isn't as good when you are that close. Most venue's, the PA main speakers are to the right/left of the stage, so you can't hear the main mix very well (especially the vocals). You can mostly only hear whats coming out of the guitar amplifiers (especially if you are on Nels side of the stage, he cranks his rig pretty loud) Again, it's awesome to be really close and experience that at least once, but again the sound is much better once you get ab
