  1. Because of the amount of required textbook reading throughout the years of my education, by the time I graduated from college in 1978, I pretty much hated reading, even for pleasure. After not reading a book for 2 years, my older sister gave me some shit about that and handed me a book, told me I would like it. Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. It worked. So thank-you Linda for the nudge, but mostly to Kurt Vonnegut for writing the kind of books that saved me from my own stupid self-imposed literary exile. I loved him for that.
  2. First Album I bought: Beatles "Something New" (1964) (I was 9, bought it with allowance money after begging my mom for the "okay" ) First concert in home town: The Friends of Distinction "Grazing in the Grass is a gas, baby can you dig it?" I can dig it, he can dig it, she can dig it, we can dig it, they can dig it, you can dig it. Oh, let's dig it. Can you dig it, baby? things got better though: First concert away from family: Led Zeppelin. Sep 1, 1971, in Hollywood, Florida (age 15)
  3. Once the WilcoWorld MusicToday fan presale is over, sometimes radio stations get a shot at a presale before the TicketMaster public internet sale. So your friends could check into that. Gotta do some research and be sure to be on the mailing lists of all the radio stations in your city. In other words, maybe some good seats are held back for other presales. The Wilcoworld MusicToday fan presale offers around 10% of the seats for sale, and they sell out fast. That does NOT mean that they are the 10% best seats surrounding the stage. I have seen presales give out 5th through 10th row,
  4. overall very nice acoustics, 2600 seats, old Masonic temple theater. For the life of me, I cannot find the Murat's old website with all the pictures of the venue. It has been taken over by Live Nation. http://murat.com
  5. Here's a little birthday card we've been working on for your gig today!
  6. No shit. It was actually hard to read. But the concentration on Jay's health really worried me. "His duffel bag is filled to the brim with pain medications for the short, couple week tour ... "

  8. That makes me remember this crazy night: 12-31-2004 Wilco played Madison Square Garden in NYC. After the last note of "Comment" I jumped in a cab and went to the Bowery Ballroom. Drive by Truckers had just taken the stage. It was 1:30am. They raged straight through to I have no idea when, because I ran out of steam finally by 3:00/3:30 or so and they were still rocking. a legendary New York City evening.
  9. Low - Full concert webcast live on NPR.org Tuesday Apr. 10. The show from Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club begins at approximately 9 p.m. ET http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9432230
  10. Have a great one, Tristan! Thanks for hosting so many great shows/collections by our favorite bands over at "owl and bear" Especially the Wilco related ones. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~. .~*~.
  11. I'll be watching it in full whenever Comcast pops it up onto On Demand. Tonight? Tomorrow? That and Entourage.
  12. "Monkey" from The Great Destroyer (2005) "Whitetail" from Things We Lost in the Fire (2001) "Shame" from Long Division (1995). A clip from Plexifilm, from the 2004 DVD Low In Europe http://plexi.co.uk/low.html#
  13. I think it was "Love and Mercy" but it might have been "When the Roses Bloom Again" because I did call twice, not sure which one you didn't hear.
  14. Nice write-up Lou. This does sound like something that would make a great movie/documentary.
  15. Yes! A band I never liked, and apparently never cared enough to learn how to spell their name correctly. Thanks for the nice compliments about the report, Aaron.
  16. Hey max! It's no collector's item or anything, but it was my personal copy of the final report from the "Bring Wilco to Fort Wayne" project which is attempting to bring the band to our fair city. If you want, you can read a pdf of that same report at here (click on "what we found 4-4-07"). For example: Next band at the Embassy? Stix. I was designated to deliver Jeff and Sue's packet in person at the show if I could (and I did pass it on to Sue ). Other copies have been sent to TMM Management and High Road Touring, and delivered by hand to Embassy Theatre management, Embassy
  17. Two posts from you and no comment about the calls I made to you? One to your cell phone, one to your home phone. So did none of them connect?
  18. from Jason's MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/jasonisbellmusic and also this: and this:
  19. Good luck to both bands as they take new paths. I can't wait to see what comes next from both of them. There certainly was/is a lot of talent in DBT.
  20. I cannot believe I drove through a white-out blizzard for 2 of my 3-1/2 hours home tonight. Freakish, I tell you, and not a lot of fun. But it was a really fun night at The Vic (and afterwards at Clarke's too!) It was cool to be on the floor of the Vic for a change - I usually like the front row balcony seats at the Vic, but this was a seated show and Allison had saved me a seat in the center of the 2nd elevated area on the floor, along with Edie & Scott, Erin, Morgan, Kristin, and Aaron. Down the row was Warner and Chandler taping. Being seated was perfect for this show, and
  21. I don't know! But like I said, I love Low and so therefore I had them on my calendar for next week (if I could swing a mid-week Detroit road trip, after just doing a Chicago road trip for Son Volt & Jason Isbell ) and had noticed a Chicago show. But I'm busy that night (Yo La Tengo in Indy at The Vogue ). I have seen Low before and they were mesmerizing, experimental slo-core. But they have less slo-core on this new CD, and The Great Destroyer was less so as well. Mimi stands and plays a little drum kit and shares lead and backing vocals with husband Alan. They have a bass
