  1. This is a great project and idea, I might have to end making a mixtape playlist.  With what comes out of this.

    Just some thoughts

    • Side with seeds (third verse, last 4 lines, which kinda brings up my not apathy, but general frustration)
      • But you and I will be undefeated
        By agreeing to disagree
No one wins but the thieves
        So why side with anything?
    • Country Disappeared (all of it seems especially apt)
    • All You Fascists/Stetson Kennedy/I Guess I Planted (not necessarily Tweedy's words, but an influence for sure)
    • Let's Go Rain (more on the general frustration of where we are as a country/species)

That is all I can think of right now.

There are still plenty of hits.  It's just that not everything that's in the top 40 or even top 10 is a "hit" in the conventional sense of the word.  But there is no shortage of hits.

So back to the OP, what is a hit?  What would constitute Wilco having a Touch of Grey moment?  x number of streams?  x number of downloads?  radio play?  Placing in the top 10 on Billboard Whatever?  BTW Here is Wilco's Billboard profile or whatnot  https://www.billboard.com/artist/wilco/.  According to this they have had "hits."  But what does it all mean?  IMHO to label a song a "hit" is meaningless in today's world.

What do you mean?  The Billboard Hot 100 hasn't gone anywhere.  It's formula is broken, but it's still attempting to rank the most popular songs every week.  There are actually more charts than ever, as there are now Spotify charts, Apple Music charts, and a slew of genre-specific Billboard charts that didn't used to exist.

Hits are still hits.  Pop music is what's popular, regardless of genre.  Rock music-- at least, new rock music-- is not particularly popular these days.  But the pendulum could swing back.  Harry Styles' first album ("Sign of the Times") was a classic rock album.  Olivia Rodrigo's massively successful "Sour" is an alternative rock album (see "Good 4 U").

As you admit it is a broken formula and a system that is easily gamed, so to categorize a song as a hit is inherently flawed.

I guess to the OP question, will Wilco every have a top 10 hit like The Dead did with Touch of Grey.  No they will not.

  4. Anyone grab a box of Wilc-Os at the Foxtrot Pop up Market a few weeks back?  I was able to get my hands on a box.  The question is, do I open it and eat it.  If so what do they taste like?  Keep in pristine condition for all time and will it to my non existent grandchildren?

  5. Well finally got up to posting about this show.  As other's said it was a great show.  YHF sounded amazing and the encores were the topper.  I did cry during Be Not So Fearful, mostly because that song has extra meaning for me and my son, who is graduating High School in a month and half.  Really liked the energy of the crowd, the right mix of respect, jubilance and awe.  Sometimes at Wilco (and especially Tweedy) shows the there is a segment of the audience that wants to be a part of the show by yelling stuff.  It is annoying, I don't like.

Also I was the guy who got the last poster from the merch table.  Sorry if you were waiting for that.

Oh yeah the worst part, is Monday I started feeling ill and Tuesday I tested positive for COVID (was fully vaxxed and masked through the whole show).   Sorry for you guys in the left dress circle rows AA and CC.  Feeling better now FWIW.

I agree.  I will already be paying twice for the CD and the LP whenever they're available.  For someone like me, who doesn't have an MP3 player (and I realize I'm an outlier), the fact that this album won't be available in physical form until some date to be determined puts a big damper on this news.  I guess I will hear these songs at Solid Sound and then not again for a while.

My assumption is this, shortly after the release this will be available on all the streaming platforms (Spotify, AppleMusic, YouTube Music, etc.).  So I fairly certain there is no need to buy the Digital Download.  My plan is to buy the vinyl copy when it is available and stream or whatnot until I get my hands on that glorious disc.

Wait is this not just everything slowed down with the occasional DJ effect thrown in?  Admittedly, I've only listened once but it sounded like EVERY vocal nuance from the original was there and I can't imagine anyone nailing it like that.

i guess it is Jeff's vocals.  It sounded so similar to the  voice at the beginning of each track, which is quite annoying btw, I thought it was different.  Kinda less impressed now.

  8. after the first listen, it seems just ok.  I guess I wanted more.  The remix of the music isn't much.  It is pretty close to the original.  I guess the only thing that is different is the vocals, which is not Jeff (I believe Barry Jenkins).  Way too deep and misses the vulnerability that Jeff expressed on YHF.

But I def applaud the effort.

  9. I just do not get the stream of consciousness / straight up narration that his music has become.  It would be one thing if it was interesting or was trying to say something, but damn this just stupid.

  10. I appreciate that there are vulnerable segments of society that need resources and special care, but it's not ebola for God's sake.

The vast majority of people will have a bit of a cough and no worse that usual annual flu.

The whole world needs to calm down a bit.

    Your take is bad.

Here is a example using my county in WI

    Some basic math:

Dane County has over 500,000 residents. We are a county with excellent hospitals and health care.

If this virus infects 10% of our population, that is 50,000 people. I have yet to see an epidemiologist predict an infection rate of less than 20%, but let’s stick with 10% for illustrative purposes.

If 5% of those infected develop serious complications requiring breathing support to survive, that is 2500 people.

If only 1% require breathing support to survive, that is 500 people.

There are approximately 110 ventilators in Dane County.

See why this is a big deal?

So it is not about you, or the majority of Americans who will get this and be fine, it is about protecting the most vunerable amongst us.

  11. In my opinion, obviously, your progressive friends are petulant children deserving no respect..

I agree that Sanders and Warren could be seen as too similar for a ticket, but if they're the ticket, then they should get the vote of everyone believing that, above all else, Trump must no longer be president.

Anyone recognizing that Trump is a danger to our nation, but still prefers Trump to Sanders, can fuck off.

You misunderstood. My progressive friends are willing to watch the whole thing burn if Sanders is NOT the nominee. Which I agree is a pretty shitty thing to do.

Bloomberg has about 55 billion other things in his favor, and I’m not yet convinced that his awful performance last night (and of course the underlying reasons he was attacked in the first place) will be enough to counter his ability to flood the airwaves with positive messages.

Bloomberg will not win one primary.
