  1. Well you are lucky, but you are an exception, a lot of people lost a lot of money in the stock market. So really you are putting a social safety net in the hands of a portfolio manager? And if you are smart enough or lucky enough to find a good one, then great. If you are not then your social security is gone and too bad for for you (cat food is just .89 cents a can)!
  2. I think it is extremely risky to privatize and make social security like a 401K. Just imagine if SS was privatized and sent to the stock market back when GWB was proposing it. Then the the stock market crashed. Now, on top of 401Ks being gone, social security is gone too. Imagine what that would have done to the economy. Social Security should be a secure government program, the money that is paid into it should stay there. In no way should it be touched by any governmental agency for any reason, other than to pay social security. Also the money that you are paying in really isn't
  3. Sorry Sparky, I frequently write posts and then delete them, I thought I commented on what you said to my inquiries. My bad. You appear to be a very thoughtful and you spend a lot of time trying to express your views. I really don't happen to agree with you. Others expressed counter arguments better then I could. And you even said you might take heat for being crazy, so I went with it. Joking aside, what you are suggesting is off the rails ask not very likely to happen. If come spring we are in a deep depression I will be the first to say I was wrong. But until then I am going to focus
  4. 3 posts by Sparky in a row, and none of them any less condescending or crazy. So back to reality, I read this article on HuffPo and it really did amaze me, there is little or no foreign policy experience on Romney's ticket. I know it seems to be a bit of back burner to the economy, but we have to contend with Iran, North Korea, etc. It would be nice to have a bit of foreign policy experience on the ticket. The more and more I think about it, Ryan was not a smart choice. It sure does look like this is setting up for a 2016 run by Ryan.
  5. Sparky when the economic collapse comes you can look down you nose at us with your piles of can goods and whatever you got stored up in your bunker and say I told you so. But then again, I am going to bite. So you offer up all of these doomsday scenarios, so what am I to do about it? Or am I just screwed because I am ill prepared and don't listen like you do?
  6. I always thought of Gen X as born in 1970 - 1980. But that is me. I keep having interesting thoughts about Paul Ryan. I really would have thought Mitt would have picked a more centrist candidate, like a Tim Pawlenty. Mitt who by all accounts durning his time as Gov of Mass. was a pretty centrist republican, ran to the far right during the primary. I would have thought he would have swung to the middle. With this pick, he is even going more right. With the way this election will be decided it seems really odd. It is going to be decided by a few people in a few key states, who are ne
  7. Thanks LouieB for bringing this thread back to reality. So being a Wisconsinite (albeit I don't live in his district) I know a bit about Paul Ryan. Paul is a Wisconsinite, when he says his blood runs bratwurst, cheese, Leinies, Spotted Cow, and some Miller he isn't paying lip service, it is true. I also think it is cool that he is the first Gen X candidate for national office. However he is from Janesville, with the loss of GM has become a very economically depressed area. I think it is funny that Paul's return to Wisconsin was not to his own district but to wealthily deeply red Wauke
  8. Sparky again proves to be condescending and completely insane at the same time. I love the part about "Your banking system" Keep your gold in coffee cans in the back yard?
  9. Of course the American public will let them go, but it makes for great late night TV. But with Romney his gaffes are more frequent and alarming and it goes beyond a straight misspeak, he tends to make policy blunders almost every time he opens his mouth.
  10. Romney just did another gaffe when introducing Paul Ryan he called him the next President of the United States. And then like an idiot interrupts Ryan and corrects himself. So maybe the GOP sees 2012 as loss and is running for 2016? BTW Christie was never going to be VP.
  11. Apparently it is Paul Ryan. Really points out what this race is about. I think this will hurt with seniors.
  12. Tweedling come on. I have always taken you for a thoughtful smart guy, you have to know that economy is move forward, just a very slow pace. Here are some numbers: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/jun/01/scorecard-economy-obama/ If you think Obama has failed to get the economy move because of cash for clunkers then I am not sure what to say to you. But that was a minor minor plan. Maybe you think Mitt Romney's economic plan will get us quicker on the path to a full recovery, but the numbers do not lie, the economy is in recovery. It is just moving slowly.
  13. So again the GOP is trying to give the election to Romney, either by hook or by crook. http://redsfan.newsvine.com/_news/2012/08/09/13204262-ohio-sets-up-one-early-voting-system-for-republican-counties-another-for-democratic-counties Regardless of your political position, or how you feel about voter fraud, can we all agree what is being done in Ohio right now is a downright shameful tactic by the GOP to have Mitt Romney win?
  14. Considering that the economic policies of Bush got us into the greatest economic downturn since the great depression, I would say yes we are moving in the right direction. Is it fast enough, no. I think that has to do with the failure of the TEA party wing of the GOP and their inability to compromise on anything. Mitt's economic plan would see millionaires getting at $87K tax cut whereas people making less than 200K would see a $500 tax increase. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/robert-j-samuelson-romneys-tax-plan-makes-no-sense/2012/08/08/8a5d2096-e16a-11e1-a25e-15067bb31849_story
  15. Possible yes, but likely no. The individual mandate is the big thing that the GOP has a problem with. Which is funny since the individual mandate was something promoted by the Heritage Foundation and Newt Gingrich. Needless to say the GOP wants nothing to do ACA and its predecessor that Romney passed in Mass. I really didn't want to get into the debate about ACA again, I wanted to point out the ridiculousness of the Romney campaign. Healthcare was a big thing in Mass and it works. But it so toxic for the GOP any mention of it makes them freak out. Romney has been so co-opted by this
  16. So yeah, the Pro Obama super PAC came out with the "Romney is a murder ad." Which insinuates Romney and Bain are responsible for a women's death. It is a terrible, horrible ad, and by far one of the worst ads this year. To be fair it is a Super PAC ad which has no coordination/input from a candidate . But what I find is hilarious is that Andrea Saul, a Romney spokeswoman, in her defense of Romney against this ad says, "To that point, if people had been in Massachusetts, under Gov. Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care." Which is now what Romney and the GOP is trying
  17. It is kinda of scary that the future of our country will be ultimately decided by a handful of people who can't make up their minds.
  18. I actually take the opposite view. I think it was brilliant (politically) to do so. Yes it puts some pressure on Reid and makes him look like a dick (no real change there). But it keeps the tax return thing in the news. This makes Romney have to continually talk about his tax return and answer questions about it. Romney is out on the campaign trail, whereas Reid is on recess. It was a bold move that is paying off more for the Dems than the GOP. Yes people will get tired of it, and it will eventually go away (I bet about the time the Timmy P is chosen as VP). Another thing in 2008 John
  19. I think the biggest problem for me with Romney (beyond his policies) is his general dishonesty. I know every politician has lied Obama included, but he just seems to blatantly brazen about it. Take for example Mitt's Welfare ad, saying that Obama fundamentally changed the Welfare to Work program passed by Bill Clinton. Simply false. Obama did remove the work requirement for states only if their programs would help people go from Welfare better then the national plan. In fact Mitt Romney as governor of Mass, requested such an exemption. http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/mitt-romneys-new
  20. Like all conversatives are racists.
  21. Why Dempster would want to go to the AL is beyond me.
  22. If Mitt Romney is elected we will have boots on the ground in Iran by the end of 2013.
  23. too bad this did not happen http://youtu.be/cL07e_xjvp0 worst episode ever
  24. The republicans have made a living on getting working people to vote against their interests.
