  1. Been trying to get my hands on some original 13th floor vinyl. As a Texan, i feel obligated to know more about both Roky and Daniel. Have seen the Johnston DVD.....amazing story. The 13th Floor Elevators' early material is lethal garage thunder and besides, I'm a sucker for lead jug

  12. shoes are good, but depending on the campus - a bicycle. first-aid kit compact sewing kit flashlight if she's new to the town - a map Geesh......I sound like a friggin' boy scout
  13. Navy Nurse disjointed and unsettling at times, but when I find a song of their's I like, it's infectious!
  14. With all due respect to the thousands of protest songs and the many crimes against humanity that inspired them, my personal favorite is Revolution - The Beatles.
  15. Should one want to take it up a notch..................PBS Independent Lens has a user friendly BRIEF history of protest music.

  19. Here is a very good article and interview on the WS. Toward the end, there are some fantastic quotes from Jack about the industry, fans and success. enjoy teasers
  20. The lack of bass is percisely the point. Just the two of them creating the sound and energy is amazing. Having seen them live, I can attest to their power. Should Ghostland Observatory add a third? or are they fine the way they are?
  21. For a fist-timer, I suggest starting with White Blood Cells (2001), since it captures the feel of what they are about. If, after 4 listens, you don't get it - you probably won't get it. If you really like it, proceed to Elephant (2003) which is their best record. IMO follow up with WS s/t (1999) De Stijl (2000) Get Behind Me Satan (2005) Icky Thump (2007) BTW, The White Stripes sound like Led Zeppelin about as much as Wilco sound like The Kinks.............just enough to reasonably recognize the influence. If you were to compare entire discographies, I don't find them that much alike.
  22. reflecting back to the countless hours spent taping King Biscuit live performances off the radio.
