  1. i went the 2nd night... it was pretty awesome the new stuff sounds really great for the most part. at the 2nd show they played Lua (just Nate on trumpet & conor on guitar/vocals) which was kick ass, then Man Named Truth and closed with True Blue (which, while cheesy, it was a lot of fun.) Conor explained it was always written as a kids song. Nick Freitas opening set was really great too. he appears to play the role that M. Ward played w/ Conor a few years back (albeit not nearly as great of a guitarist or singer, but still...)
  2. guess you'll just be an oddball DBT fan then The Day John Henry Died Carl Perkins Cadillac Outfit Goddamn Lonely Love Danko/Manuel Never Gonna Change Tornadoes Decoration Day are all better than anything on this new album except for possibly The Righteous Path and The Man I Shot (for now anyway) Sands would be a good song if not for Patterson's annoying falsetto on it
  3. i did... and it honestly doesn't look THAT familiar. it might have even stated who the actor is in the booklet, i'd have to look again. the only time Cat flew to San Fran during the filming was to meet w/ Hal and subsequently record If You Want To Sing Out
  4. that is correct. apparently it's a long standing rumor (or was)
  5. so far this easily blows away Get Lonely, thankfully his most full sounding recording to date too
  6. according to someone on SOMB, Autumn Defense are doing a short opening set
  7. go back and listen to Dirty South & Decoration Day a bit more, i think you'll come around. as great as this one is, those 2 are still a few notches above this in terms of songwriting. there are like 4-5 songs on this one that are up there with the best songs in their catalog though.
  8. got my blood red vinyl of this today along w/ the pink 7" this is probably the most amazing vinyl in my collection honestly (granted probably only 150-200 records, but still). the sound is just amazing and i love to hear the demos/alternate versions of Shy & Sing Out. also, it comes with a great Cat poster and a cool H&M one, and the 40 page book tells a ton about the movie. also, Cat was not in the movie, it dispels that rumor.
  9. nice! they're a blast. saw them open for Two Gallants a few months ago. they're from Portland too!
  10. Water Jet Cilice is also known as Self Torture (which has lyrics), which you can buy on eMusic Andrew played that one last Sunday at the Cedar. the Saturday night Guthrie show was 10 minutes shy of 3 hours they filmed all 3 shows for a possible DVD release though, so let's hope that happens! the 4 new songs he played on Sunday were all wicked too http://www.reveillemag.com/features/concer...-bird-the-cedar
  11. she was pretty hot in some photos: (ok, minus the Kim Jong Il glasses )
  12. double it. i guess i'm lucky since i can listen to music (at a pretty high volume too ) all day at work. i'd guess i listen to music around 6-12 hours a day on a given day. i definitely realize not everyone is able to do that though.
  13. i enjoy it and think it's pretty interesting, but certainly not one of the years very best for me (think it just made my top 40). like you, I too prefer songs and melodies to things that just "sound cool". there are some great melodies on the album (Bros for example), but a lot of the album just tests my patience. at least i can listen to and enjoy PB though, because Animal Collective just make me angry/confused/annoyed.
  14. horrible... yet not very shocking. after the other attack it seemed like only a matter of time. funny that people condemned Musharraf for imposing that state of emergency last month... seems like he knew it was only a matter of when too
  15. are you talking about Slow Show by chance? if so: i will say flat out, that the line "You know i dreamed about you, for twenty-nine years before i saw you" is one of my favorite lines on the album, and one of my favorite lines this year honestly, and not just because i can relate personally. this verse is also totally relatable and says a lot to me: not necessarily that i relate to it personally, but have a couple of guy friends who this verse describes to a T. what constitutes good and bad lyrics is often very subjective, i realize that. but I can tell you that as much as I love
  16. another issue with the song Bob is (besides just finding it fairly cheesy), NOFX already wrote a song about a drunken "Bob" 13 years ago that i DO find fairly humorous (that's kind of NOFX's schtick though): i also tend to not be the biggest fan of Cooley's stuff that reminds me of Charlie Daniels (nothing against him, but still). take a song like Bob compared to Carl Perkins Cadillac, and for me it's no fucking contest. anywho, after a good 10 listens, this is definitely my 3rd fave DBT album already after Dirty South & Decoration. it's pretty close between this and SRO, both have
  17. my vinyl is on the mail i got the blood red one. i was SO excited when i saw the Soundtrack was FINALLY being released after not having one all these years.
  18. lol... no doubt. please try and defend the lyrics to "What If" off West... you can't i think Beringer is one of the best lyricists post '00 honestly... what's so laughable about them? they're not obvious and at times somewhat obtuse, but so was Dylan...
  19. it's amusing but not enough to really interest me in it. can see myself skipping it often, even if it's only 2 min
  20. i said she sounds a bit like Neko, not LIKE Neko . just a slight similiarity.
  21. she definitely sounds like Neko a bit on The Purgatory Line! Stevie Nicks meets Neko
  22. yes, all 3 of her songs are very solid. she should have been singing all along! songs i'd have cut (so far): You and Your Crystal Meth (some poor lyrics, a bit TOO direct. musically it's sweet) Lisa's Birthday (again, good music, poor lyrics) Bob (not awful, but not that big on it either, and also some pretty dumb lyrics)
  23. fwiw, this leaked today. it's REALLY good too. i'd have lopped off at least 3 or 4 songs though.
