there's also another vocalist that sings almost half the songs that i'm not too big on :/
-
hey now, it's a really solid record, just a lot of other great albums this year too
-
this will 100% be Andrew's last show of 2007 (previously it was the Sat night Guthrie show) also, if anyone needs 2 amazing front row center tickets for Friday night, email me: kyle@morecowbell.net

i tried to. nah, 3 really solid singles, but overall one of the bigger disappointments of '07. doesn't even touch the first 2 records for me.
-
^^ sure it's not a transcode? anywho, i listened to this once last night and found it pretty damn boring honestly. oh well.
-
thank god they didn't change a thing from the Blue CD-R (except the 2 new songs, which are just ok...)
-
hate Stairway all you want, because it's insanely overplayed, overrated, etc. but musically speaking it's one of the finest crafted songs of all time
-
except if your main interest in New Porns is for their straight up/forward power pop like me, then it's pretty easy to see why i prefer Electric Version Challengers certainly shows the most depth of any of their records, that's for sure.

hmm... a lot of people/articles keep bringing up the Arcade Fire when talking about this album and I guess i don't hear it that much myself. for one they have rock guitar, AF rarely have. maybe in the bombastic and epic-ness of some of the songs i suppose. Down on the Ground -> A Trip Out is just a sick sick combo that riff for A Trip Out kills me. it's nothing original at all, but man. reminds me of old Replacements a bit. there's maybe 2-3 songs total on here that i don't totally adore, and even those aren't bad songs. this album is a great combination of the heavier and more franti

that's the album/project with his wife or whatever? i think i recall liking that track as well
-
Bejar's problem with me (and i really love him, but he's got his fair share of awful tracks in his great catalog) is moreso being overly wordy to the point of just mumbling/jumbling words on top of each other. his voice has never really annoyed me (although it's a common complaint i hear from people who don't dig him). that new song, Foam Hands, the melody & song itself is just ok, but musically & production wise it's one of the best thing he's ever done. hope the rest of the album is that warm. should be able to hear it fairly soon here i hope

ugh... i wanna blast the new British Sea Power so damn loud :/
-
oh i loves me some non-traditional vocalists (hell, Dylan is the best singer/songwriter to ever live still at this point), but there's a difference between singing & whining/straining/sounding like you need to take a dump to me . the biggest problem is overemphasis over over-dramatizing though, that combined with strained/whiney vocals is the death knell for me. never really thought Colin's voice was all that weird, and Krug sounds like a more effected David Bowie (although his voice does bug me on rare occasions, whereas i f'n adore Dan's most every time)
-
i can only take so much of the strained emo-ish vocals, no matter Sheff, Conor, etc. :/ i'm a huge huge stickler when it comes to vocals. it's the single most important thing for me getting into any artist unfortunately. i'm kinda amazed I finally came around on Bright Eyes to be perfectly honest, because up until and include most of Lifted, he honestly was one of the worst singers if not THE worst i'd heard in my entire life, no question. but yeah, i've really only LOVED Okkervil live. as an album BSB grew on me, but only because of seeing them live twice. this new one just makes me want
-
i wish Okkervil were as great studio as they are live, I can hardly stand Will's voice on this new album :/ maybe it'll improve with age like Conor did
-
yeah, considering Pfork and a bunch of sites went apeshit over Twin Cinema, which i never really fully connected with other than the obvious few tracks the album is definitely a solid 7.5, Pfork def dropped the ball (no surprise)
-
nah that's cool just surprised based on the reactions it's gotten elsewhere that i frequent =)
-
i'd hope you've got a healthy collection of Built To Spill?
-
Showstoppers and Heaven & Earth are amazing, after that i really dig My Rights, Challengers, Myriad, Unguided and Spirit of Giving, after that i can take or leave the rest. only 2 songs that i'm not really big on though White Cecilia (not Dan's best work) and Solitude their show last month was killer though. best i've seen them (i missed the Twin Cinema tour though, saw them off the first 2) you do have Georgie James super high though, that rules . i only posted my top 5 but pretty sure it's in my top 10
-
kinda surprised at the super high ranking of Challengers on a few lists here it has gotten shit on (somewhat unfairly) on most of the forums i frequent i like it quite a bit more than Twin Cinema, which besides 4-5 songs i never really got into, but definitely not one of the best things i heard this year (will def make my top 50 though). would put it behind EV & MR too. could have just used a bit more uptempo stuff and i'd probably have loved it :/

The Search was just an OK album for me... not even remotely as great as Okemah
-
hahahaha totally gave yourself away dude
