  1. Get in line. Someone just asked me to make a pair for $$ - my first commissioned knitting job! The afghan's gorgeous, Kate!
  2. I'm clearing my calendar and crossing my fingers!
  3. On the ten albums, I think they're probably including the stuff he's done with previous bands. He's been kicking around for about a decade or so in different incarnations. He played on at least one Squirrel Nut Zippers album. Seeing him live is amazing. Prior to the first time I saw him perform, we ran into him and his band at a Thai cafe across from the venue. We couldn't come up with a good excuse to interrupt this dinner and pick his brain, though, that didn't make us look like rude idiots. So we just gawked, and nearly fell out of our chairs the two times he walked past our table. He'
  4. I finally watched this tonight. Musically, I love them and I thought they sounded great. But spare me the melodrama. It probably wouldn't bother me, except they were doing the exact same schtick when they were promoting "Funerals" on Conan nearly three years ago. It seems inauthentic. I wound up just listening to the show after the first few songs.
  5. Here's what my husband was able to do before the gale-force winds hit this afternoon: It needs a little work, obviously. The tree has been purchased and is in the house. I call it The Beast and I'm convinced it's going to unfurl and suffocate us in our sleep. Decorations will appear on Tuesday or Wednesday. With having a 3-year-old and lots of friends with little kids, I'm not putting my breakables on the tree. We're going to make salt dough ornaments tomorrow and it'll take them a day or two for the paint to dry. I've been listening to "Holiday in Cambodia" today.
  6. If I know a song too well, I always screw it up on GH because I want to play notes that are in the song but not the game. Especially on the fast songs. I've been on a wild goose chase to find GH: Rock of the '80s for under $50 for my husband's Christmas.
  7. It's over 50 degrees with occasional bouts of driving rain. Bizarro. Guess we won't be hanging our outside Christmas lights today.
  8. Oh, I definitely won't miss it. One way or another, I'll be watching it. I'm thinking I might leave the hubby and kiddo home on Wednesday and go see it. The kiddo and I are hopping a train to Sedalia on Thursday, so that would be a good chance for them to have some father-daughter time (and for me to catch a blissful solo break with one of my favorite human beings of all time). Right now I'm watching people filing into the Catholic church across the street in the rain. This is my Sunday morning ritual: sit in front of my living room windows, drink my coffee, and watch the faithful.
  9. I'm still trying to get through GH I without completely sucking. Addictive!
  10. *sigh* One-week limited engagement in St. Louis began last night. Not sure if I'll get a chance to catch it on the big screen, which makes me sad.
  11. GPB is awesome! I haven't watched it in years, though. Need to change that. I'm currently watching the poorly edited version of High Fidelity on VH1 Classic. Not sure why, since the DVD's not even a foot away from the TV, and I wouldn't have to endure ads for VH1's upcoming Larry the Cable Guy Christmas special featuring Vicki Lawrence as Mama. I think I'm going to turn off the TV at this moment.
  12. Exactly! Another lovely example, but I don't have a pattern for this one.
  13. What I'm thinking are gloves/mittens that end between the first and second knuckles. Like this:
  14. I've got lots of fingerless mitten patterns. Check your Ravelry account; I'll send you links.
  15. "Water for Elephants" is fabulous! I was skeptical about it at first, but it wound up being my favorite book of 2006. I'm reading "Open Me" by Sunshine O'Donnell, and I keep meaning to mention it to you. Not sure why, but every time I read it I think it might be something you'd like. I'm completely engrossed in it. Just finished "What You Have Left" by Will Allison. Good, quick read that still manages to have some depth. Have you read any of Julia Glass' novels? "Three Junes" and "The Whole World Over" are both excellent. Add me to the list of people who loved that one! The sequel,
  16. I was hoping you'd explain that one. That's fab!
  17. You are correct, Edie! I have not run since I was 29. In fact, I try not to run, period. The entire amount of running I've done in my adult life might add up to a half-marathon. I'm flat-footed, fat, and have big boobs. I don't run unless it's to escape dire peril. (I do spend a lot of time on the treadmill, though, and chasing my three-year-old.)
  18. I wish #1 was false! I did, indeed, labor for over 34 hours, only to require a c-section. I wasted a day and a half ... and I didn't accept the good drugs until it was almost over. I'm obviously a poor decision-maker.
  19. I'll give another go. 1. I grew up in the town where Scott Joplin wrote "Maple Leaf Rag" and "The Entertainer". 2. I ran a half-marathon when I was 29 and haven't run since. 3. I labored for over 34 hours with my daughter and wound up having a c-section.
  20. St. Louis or Chicago? I was supposed to teach cooking classes at the St. Louis one a few years ago, but wound up being way too pregnant by the time they needed me. I'm such a bawl bag. I've since increased my meds and I no longer weep while buying underpants.
  21. We pick a program each year that benefits kids and teens. For the last two years we did it through my daughter's daycare. They worked with Epworth House to fulfill gift wishes for the kids who lived in their shelter. The first year we did it, I picked a tag from a 17-year-old new mom. All she wanted for Christmas? Underwear. I'm sure I looked like a freak, buying twenty pairs of underpants five sizes too small for me while crying, but it had to be done. Since my daughter's not in daycare this year, we're donating books. Our Barnes & Noble is doing a thing where customers can donate book
  22. I hit Etsy for toy-shopping this weekend. I got some really cool felted sea creatures and a dragon puzzle for the kiddo. (On a sidenote, my favorite etsy shops are Squaresville, CourtneyWatson, and Dyeabolical Yarns. And I'd totally feel that way if I wasn't friends with the proprietors. ) The kiddo's also getting a wee acoustic guitar, which will cause her to lose her mind. Books, and a DVD with every episode of "The Ant and the Aardvark" from "The Pink Panther". Not sure what I'm getting my husband. I'll probably buy from his Amazon wish list, which means he'll be getting lots of book
  23. Oh, it takes a lot to offend me. Unless you're doing wrong by my kid or a handful of other people in my life, there's a good chance it's not going to bother me. It's one of the perks of being shameless. That said, thanks for looking out for me, WW. I mentioned the idea of doing a UT/Belleville photo tour to my husband. His response: "I can't believe you haven't already done that." I have been known to give the UT/Wilco tour of local sites to visiting friends.
  24. Can't say I'm offended, since I didn't make it known that the hooligan = that chick = me. All's cool. Obviously, there are many, many things in that photo that could be the focus of malicious teasing. "That chick" is down-right complementary, when you're a big ol' pink-haired Stag-drinking gal sitting on a fountain in the middle of a round-a-bout, living in the town that spawned her favorite band and who may or may not drive past the Tweedy homestead near major holidays to see if there's anything interesting to see.
