  1. I get that a lot. Well, more often I hear, "You look just like my cousin."
  2. Zen's correct. I have often colord my hair, and rarely in colors found in nature. Tomorrow, I'm going dark brown with purple streaks. It'll be the third unreal color combo I've sported since joining VC less than three months ago. M.(hris, I do have the butt dimple. I always thought that I must have been born with a tail and that my parents were lying when I accused them of having it amputated. It wasn't until my daughter was born with the same dimple that I believed that I have never sported a tail.
  3. Here's the fountain, blocked by some hooligan drinking Stag and cramming a bratwurst down her gullet. Belleville trash. (Edited to add: The humor's self-depricating, as the Stag-drinking pink-haired hooligan is me.)
  4. 1. There's a dimple at the top of my butt that may have once held a tail. 2. I've never colored my hair. 3. I have seven years of higher education and no degrees.
  5. I'm a recent MacBook convert, and I'll never go back. Love it! Get the extended warranty so you can have access to the Mac geniuses to guide you through. For transfering my music from PC to MacBook, I invested in a USB external hard drive. They're relatively cheap. Just plug into the PC, move the files, plug into the MacBook and you'll be in good shape. I still haven't reconfigured my iPod for my MacBook, but it seems pretty straightforward.
  6. I heard "New Madrid" at Chiptole today, located on the same street where "the fountain" is located. That was somewhat trippy. I embarrassed my daughter by singing along.
  7. My husband and his buddies are Guitar Hero junkies. The house could burn down around their feet, and it probably wouldn't distract them from their plastic guitars. As for Christmas, I always want books and CDs. I can't say there's anything I've really got a hankering for, though. Considering that, in the past six months I've gotten a new MacBook and my dream house, I don't really need much else. A night alone in a nice hotel would be great, though.
  8. Too lazy to transfer 10,000+ songs from my old PC to the new MacBook. Listening to nothing but Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sirius for nearly four straight months. I'm an abomination. But they are playing Harry Nilsson's version of "Subterranean Homesick Blues", which I never would have heard if I had the gumption to transfer my music to my active computer. I'm not lazy. I'm expanding my musical horizons. Yeah.
  9. Happy birthday! May I sing a verse or two of "Fist City" in honor of your day? Hope you had a delightful day!
  10. Add one of their 90% syrup/10% coffee iced coffees to it and you've got yourself the Type 2 Special. My mother's addicted to that shitty iced coffee. It's gotta be full of high fructose corn syrup. Terrible.
  11. In SE Asia, aren't noodle stands and carts the granddaddy of all fast food? Places like that are awesome! Much, much, much better than Americanized Asian food that's made ahead so it can fester and congeal in a steam tray.
  12. Such a close call on that one. Chipotle wins for burritos, but not having the nachos option hurts them. My kid would live on black bean and cheese soft tacos from either locale, if I let her. I voted for Chipotle, Culvers, and Popeyes. Their fried chicken and red beans and rice make me terribly happy. For quick franchise Asian, I love Pei Wei. Noodles & Company, too.
  13. Thanks for the Amazon head's up! I got the second season of "The Office" for $12.
  14. Just that. I'm normally not a fan of Best But, but they've got 80+ CDs to choose from. If you can sort through the AFI and Akalaine Trio crap, there's some really good stuff. Free shipping, too. I got CSS and Band of Horses. Although I didn't see a disclaimer about a limit of two, when I tried to buy two more (Hold Steady and Black Lips), they tried to charge me regular price. I think the sale runs through Friday, so I'm going to try again on a different computer with my husband's info. Here's the link.
  15. I've lost interest in it recently, but nothing - absolutely nothing - in this world cracks me up like My husband's watching the Starvin' Marvin episode right now.
  16. Here's to a pumpkin pie filled with candles! Hope you have a wonderful day!
  17. When we walked into my parents' house (after a six-hour drive that normally takes three hours. ), the whole place smelled like roasted turkey. I'm so ready to face-plant into that bird. Instead of doing the whole bird thing at other times of the year, I take a half of a bone-in turkey breast, rub it with herbs, and cook it in the crockpot. No crispy skin, but it's an otherwise yummy, easy substitute for the real thing.
  18. I hate that, when I go to CNN's website, generally at least half the stories are either about stupid celebrities or potential Darwin Awards winners. It really seems to have shifted in the last year or so.
  19. I'm on a strict no-gossip (celebrity or personal) diet. I wrote about it on my blog a few days ago.
  20. Mmmmmm ... curry! One of my favorite things to make. I worked for an Indian family when I was in college, and curries became one of my big comfort foods. Paderborn! You're the first person I've encountered from that area. Small world, indeed. (Speaking of comfort foods, Belleville has a huge German heritage. There are still lots of little old German immigrant ladies who make amazing German food in this area. There's hardly a weekend where there isn't a local Wurstmarkt. Love it!)
  21. Want me to come make you a Thanksgiving dinner? A few years ago a British friend of mine was pregnant. Her sister in the States threw her a baby shower, and I offered to do the cooking. My friend's always been fascinated by American Thanksgiving, and that's what she wanted for her baby shower. So I went to Detroit and made Thanksgiving in May for a six-months pregnant Brit. That was by far one of the most fun, rewarding meals I have ever cooked. I'm with M. (hris. I love the ritual of cooking, and expressing my love through what I make in the kitchen. There are certain dishes I only make
  22. Profile's updated! Thanks for the reminder, Jen.
