  1. Just wanted to share a painting my friend from Austin gave to me for Christmas. I really like it!

That is a really cool painting. I am assuming that there are no prints available?

  2. Wow, I sure didn't see that Wolverines win coming. Those boys looked pretty good today, despite the turnovers. Amazing what happens when your players are healthy -- particularly your quarterback. I was quite surprised at how much pressure their defensive line was able to put on Tebow.

Good for Lloyd Carr. The man deserved better than to lose his last three games. And who knows, maybe this win will lift U-M back into the top 25.

I was surprised also. In a way it kind of gave me a little optimism for next year. Maybe going to a spread offense won't be so much of a dramatic change for them. I would have to say that the defense line was the biggest surprise for me. I though that Florida would protect better than what they did.

  3. I have a question to anybody who might know. In all of the music biographies that I have read most big name artist mention that they have had the same guitar tech for years and years. Being the analytical person who hates not knowing all of the details on things, I have always wondered how much an average guitar tech can make in a year being with the same artist for their entire career? Are they paid per show like touring musicians? I would love to do it but I have serious doubts that it can sustain a family of 6 on a normal basis.

  4. I'm going to start off by saying that this is a rough one to figure out and I reserve the right to change my mind at any point. I'm going to cheat and give 2 or three answers to each because narrowing it down is too hard. *note - these are in no particular order.

    Vocals:

Little By Little - Oasis. Sung by Noel Gallagher. He sings so much better than his brother and he has a much better feel for melody.

Labor of Love - Frente. There is something about Angie Hart's Australian accent in this song the just melts my heart.

Mockingbirds - Grant Lee Buffalo. When it comes to haunting vocal melodies there is none greater than this song IMO.

    Bass:

Naveed - Our Lady Peace. The bass just completely drives this song.

Accidents will Happen - Elvis Costello. The bass line in the chorus is so sweet and poppy you need to see a dentist afterward.

Mountain Song - Janes Addiction. It came down to either this or Just like Heaven by the Cure.

    Keys

The Adventures of the Empress of Harlem and the Amazing Subway Boy - Joe Firstman. The piano melds beautifully with his vocals.

Seeing things for the First Time - Black Crowes. It combines pure piano playing and organ beautifully.

At my most beautiful - R.E.M. Just like the song says. Beautiful.

Guitar: This one was hard for me.

Where The Streets Have No Name - U2. Not your classic "guitar song". But the minimalist playing in this song just floors me. I'm not a huge U2 fan but the Edge is probably the most underrated ed guitarist in the world.

Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix. Jimi at his finest.

Killing in the name of - Rage Against the Machine. Probably my favorite guitar riff of all time.

All that being said, if you ask me tomorrow, my answers will all be different.

  5. AM: Box Full of Letters- I explained this one in the other thread.

BT: Dreamer in my dreams- I hope they keep in the coughing and everything

ST: Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again)- I explained this one in the other thread too.

MAs: Airline to Heaven- Best song off of Kicking TV

YHF: Kamera- Haven't gotten a chance to hear it live yet.

AGIB: Spiders (Kidsmoke)- I wasn't all that into the album version, but the live version is one of my favorite Wilco songs.

SBS: What Light- I.G. is my favorite live Wilco song by a long shot, but I would like to hear the live version of What Light too.

  6. come on now. wilco shows are great but they aren't that much different from what you hear on the records or in other performances. the grateful dead threw something new at you every single show. you could hear the same song two nights in a row and it would be completely different

Just because a band doesn't dramatically cahnge a songs structure or go on long drawn out jams doesn't mean that the music isn't different. A lot of live stuff is a lot better and different than the recorded stuff. Just listen to any song off of YHF and then listen to the live version and they will be different.

  7. Every year I get something practical for my wife in an abundance among the other "real " gift things I get her. It started a couple of years ago my wife had tried this really expensive shampoo and conditioner. She loved it but it was like 8 bucks for a bottle so she would never buy it normally. So one of the things I got her was a huge box full of it. I spent like 150 bucks between the conditioner and the shampoo. Then 2 years ago she was always complaining that she could never find her chapstick. She would lose it constantly. So I got her like 60 tubes of chapstick. People at Wal-Mart thought I was nuts. For the life of me I can't think of what I got her last year. This year I'm thinking silverware. She is always complaining that the kids keep loosing forks and spoons, so I will go out and get a plethora of utensils or something.

  8. Rolling Stone put out their list of the top 50 albums this year and SBS rings in at #42. I thought it would be a bit higher but I was surprised with some of the choices for some of the early picks. I like seeing Arcade Fire at #3. Also I wasn't even aware that Imperial Teen was back together let alone had a new album out. I do love the quote about Wilco at the end of their SBS review it reads:

America's next Sonic Youth have now become our new Grateful Dead

    Nice. :thumbup

Here is the link to the list: Rolling Stone's Top 50 Albums of 2007

  9. Hold on everyone. Its a Jay Bennett song. You must hate it.

Just because Jay got relieved of his musical duties in Wilco doesn't mean that all of a sudden his music sucks. I was sincere what I said earlier in the post about liking Lamrods singing voice in the song better than when Jay sang it but that doesn't mean that I don't like Jay's voice or his music.

  10. So is Florida State going to be able to field a team on New Year's Day?

I can hear the crowd chanting now. WATERBOY, WATERBOY, WATERB......

Up until 1997, the chant around the stadium used to be "S-O-Y-B-E-A-N-S", but was shortened to "O-H-I-O" because it was confusing Andy Katzenmoyer.

True story. I just read it on Wikipedia.

Ok, that is just plain funny. Yeah, I'm a Michigan fan so that probably has something to do with it. And I'm sure that UM has had it's fair share of stupid ones, I mean hell, we even had a linemen get busted "pleasuring" himself on peoples porches. But even OSU fans have got to admit that Katzenmoyer was pretty lacking in his mental capacity.

  11. (which brings up another interesting point....what happens to Ryan Mallet

That is really the million dollar question. If Pryor comes to UM then I think Mallet will transfer immediately. If Rodriguez can't lure Pryor to Ann Arbor then I think Mallet will stay because he is basically the starter by default. The other 2 scholarship QB's on UM's roster are David Cone, and Steven Threet and neither are any more mobile than Mallet. From what I understand from somebody who saw the news conference, Rodriguez said that if he needed to he could adapt the offense to what ever players he has. So even though he may not be a pure fit for the run option spread, Mallet might be ok.
