  1. I got inspiration from looking at the Wilco Book. ...okay, maybe not inspiration. I took mine straight out of the book, but made it my own: Perhaps the book might help you think of something!
  2. Having the same name as the band who purveyed the song you're talking about makes me unable to appreciate the point of view. (Perhaps not a valid interjection, but one I felt had to be made.) ((edit: at least Peter Gabriel is singing.))
  3. Mikael chose well for this podcast. I especially like that he included Diamond Claw...definitely my favorite out of the Wilco book. I'm only part of the way through the episode, and I'm quite eager to hear what else he chose.
  4. Feist has many better songs than '1,2,3,4.' If you're curious about her, you should listen to her album 'Let it Die.' Pick any track you want. They're all great. Her voice is amazing, and I'm so glad that Wilco have collaborated with her. I can't wait to hear it!
  5. I've also enjoyed sitting on Ravinia's lawn before, and what I did not garner from reading the event listing was that it wasn't an outdoor show. I guess I just assumed that we'd be able to see the show from wherever we spread our picnic blanket (hoping we'd be close to the front of the lawn). : /
  6. I've already chosen some of both. Way to intuit that!
  7. things we lost in the fire What is/are your favorite track(s)? Oh, and my roommate was armed and ready with an Explosions in the Sky cd. Yay!
  8. You know what's funny, I've had a Low CD sitting on my shelf for a year. Unopened. Maybe it's not funny.
  9. When y'all feel like you need to chill out/calm down, or don't feel like , , , or , what do you put on? I'm making a playlist full of not-so-rockin' tunes, and it's probably going to have a lot of Sigur R
  10. Wilco - 5 times (7 by the middle of next month ) Everclear - 4 times (I'm not embarrassed...I was on stage with them twice!) the Faint - twice Nels Cline - twice the Polyphonic Spree - twice
  11. Honestly, I haven't seen a great enough variety of shows that I should be making a call on this, but whatever. Flaming Lips (the happiest day of my life!) Wilco The Polyphonic Spree (first time seeing them was the second-happiest day of my life) Of Montreal Manu Chao
  12. I've seen plenty of mediocre shows, but I have to say that the Shins (Lolla '06) was BY FAR the most underwhelming show I've ever seen. I think what was so bad about it was that my friends had all hyped those dudes (after Garden State came out, half the kids I was friends with were all over that shit), and when they came on stage, they played a lifeless show with each song sounding the same as the one before. I was also quite underwhelmed by Sonic Youth (same festival). I felt bad for Kim Gordon...her voice just ain't what it used to be. Maybe it would've been better if I had been more fa
  13. I was too sick to see Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins a few years ago... ...and then I somehow decided that I didn't want to see Jeff Tweedy (for free!) a month later. Honorable mentions...Deerhoof (last October...?), Of Montreal (two years ago), and Kraftwerk (4/20!), among others. I don't have any concert-going regrets. Not even the four times I saw Everclear. (I don't count when I was dragged to Summerfest to see Britney Spears when I was 13. I never liked her...it was my brother who wanted to see her.)
  14. I go to concerts by myself 10% of the time, and not by choice. I really hate doing things like that alone, and I think a lot of that has to do with my (almost) need to share in experiences with the people I keep close. Luckily, I can usually find at least one person among my friends/family that is interested in what I'm seeing...except (until recently) Wilco shows. My ex, bless his heart, let me drag him to three (!) Wilco concerts, not because he was a fan (...he said he "almost liked" their live act), but because he knew it would make me happy (and probably keep me from nagging him about t
  15. Could there be hope that the closure is temporary? (I'll be optimistic for you...) Best of luck to you--hope an opportunity presents itself soon. Vibes coming your way!
  16. Fuckin' A! I knew I had a reason to go there... I guess I just have to hope that there was more than one.
  17. It definitely does...thanks! OU acceptance vibes would be greatly appreciated. I'm so nervous...
  18. Is there such a picture? I need to see it!
  19. Your saying good things about OK is getting me super excited about living there! The more I think about it, too, I figure out more dumb things to ask about... Are the streets around OKC and Norman relatively bike-friendly? Do the towns sprawl a bit, or are they more compact? Are there summer festivals? (I have a penchant for milling around in crowds...) What are the winters like?
  20. Hmm! I like what you've said, so far... Is it easy to get around without a car? I'm contemplating ditching the car when I move, unless there's a severe lack in public transportation... What are popular entertainment-type things to do in the area?
  21. So... Would it be a good idea to move down there, say, this summer? I've kind of got my heart set on being a Sooner, but I'm trying to gauge how viable that might be in the near future. What are housing costs like? Is the traffic bad? Are there jobs available for a college kid that's used to earning $12 an hour? What do you like and dislike about the area/Oklahoma in general? I really would like to get out of Milwaukee to re-focus and get my priorities straight. There are too many distractions here (mainly people, especially my family), and I think that transplanting myself will g
  22. Tickets on the broker sites are going at re-goddamn-diculous prices. Oodle Six days ago? REALLY?!
  23. Anyone else getting nervous? edit: HOLY SHIT! damn.
  24. There's a bank on the next block east that opens up their parking ramp for the Pabst's shows. Parking typically runs from $3-$7, I think... You have to get there rather early to get a spot there, though...
