  1. Giving a first listen now -- on Spotify -- and finding this to be just as much Grateful Dead as it is VU. Not as excellent as the review might imply. Still, about halfway through, and I will listen through to the end. Not sure how many more listens this will warrant. But I'll probably give it another shot at some point to see if it starts to grow on me. Right now, though, it's just a bit disappointing. (But with expectations raised as high as mine were, I don't know that there really could have been any other result.)
  2. This album came up as a recommendation for me in AllMusic just now. I read the review and found it totally intriguing. I would think that the descriptions would intrigue many of you, too.So… anyone hear ever hear of this? Ever hear it?What more can you tell me? The short, :30 samples sound great and I am putting it on my wish list, but I want to hear personal thoughts from some of you folks, too.
  3. Lyle Lovett at Ravinia, outside of Chicago.
  4. I already listened to that one today, too! (I don't post my NP until after I've listened to the 5 that this board allows you to post images for.)
  5. When did you pick up that Sarno Earth Drive pedal? Brad (Sarno) actually played on one tune on my last record, and mastered the whole thing. I really want one of those Earth Drives.
  6. While he was not a rock n' roll musician, they don't get much more rock 'n roll than this: Extraordinarily entertaining. Maybe a little bit trashy, and a little bit light on his musical thinking, but there is a lot of insight about the man, himself. Still, some great stories about other jazz greats and, just… a really good read.
  7. I am a huge Richard Hell fan, but I found that book to be a bit annoying -- self-aggrandizing, with too many potshots taken at his contemporaries. (He's particularly harsh on Richard Lloyd.) I mean, it was all very interesting, especially for a big fan of the man, and of that CBGBs scene. But the tone kinda spoils it a bit. He obviously feels more than a little bit slighted by history. Maybe rightfully so, but it all comes off as very pouty. Quite unbecoming. So I didn't enjoy it as much as I really should have. My favorite: The Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll Of course it ends before Ji
  8. I just saw Chef. Liked it more than I probably should have. I mean, it's a good movie, but not great. Still, I am a sucker for a good father/son relationship story. And I loves me some good food. So, I really dug this one.
  9. Def. Especially if Andy could figure out a way to deal with his anxiety and get his ass back on stage!
  10. Yeah. I think that Jonathan has all but disowned all those early songs. He never plays them live, with the occasional little tease dropped into another song, here or there.
  11. JELLYFISH!!! And I think that the time is right. In the time that they have been disbanded I think their fan base has actually grown. People are discovering this amazing band all the time. But not only do I want to see them get back together, but I want new material from them. Damnit.
