  1. I read A Christmas Carol and it was a revelation being inside of Scrooge's head. Completely changed the story for me... for the better and destroyed any hyper-sentimentality that the movies displayed that was such a turn-off for me. Just a great, great book. Loved it. Right after I finished it, I started reading Oliver Twist and had a hard time getting through it. Only got about 1/3 through before I put it down with every intention of finishing it; but I never picked it up again.
  2. Hunky Dory, with Ziggy Stardust not too far behind. And I have never heard any of the Berlin trilogy (save the couple of radio songs). I really need to remedy that.
  3. Is this a YouTube-only thing? Because I can't find it on Netflix. Or, at least YT-only for now?
  4. I am dying to see her when she comes through Chicago. Hope that she will on her next spin through the US.
  5. Listening to her now and, as there is a decided lack of attention that she has received around here, I wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone else listens to her. And, if you like her as much as I do. My description in the first post still holds up for me. If that sounds good to you, check it. She now has 2 albums and an EP.
  6. Not just an amazing comedic talent and improviser, but the guy has dramatic acting chops as well. The brilliant thing is that he seems to realize that there really isn't much difference between comedy and drama... just the phrasing or a look. He's mastered the subtleties of both. He's the anti-Robin Williams. (Although Robin can be pretty great sometimes, too.)
  7. And, maybe I need to clear my head and give him another fair shot, but I generally find Pynchon to be insufferably long-winded. (Although I do appreciate his sense of the absurd.)
  8. Yep. Vonnegut, for sure. Also: J.D. Salinger Harlan Ellison Salman Rushdie
  9. It's Pat's pizza still on Sheffield there? If so, and you are suffering from pan pizza overload, Pat's has probably the best thin-crust in town.
  10. Only 57 years old. No drugs. No booze. No choking on vomit (his or otherwise). No spontaneous combustion. A very un-rock 'n roll death of complications from MS. LINK: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/9929177/Clive-Burr-the-ex-Iron-Maiden-drummer-dies-aged-56.html Rest in peace, Clive. Ye were a monster.
