A friend of mine sent it to me many moons ago. Another friend of mine just shared it on Facebook, so I thought that I might share it here with y'all. It is pretty amazing. Too many favorites on here to make it worthwhile to list them all.

Was this as good/better than Lennon 8 years later??

Have you ever listened to anything from Band on the Run, other than the title cut? Seriously... I find it hard to believe that you could make that statement without having listened to it. Of course, to each their own and all, but you could be missing out on something pretty amazing. (And, on the album he does not do that cheezy vocal ad libbing like he does at the beginning of the song.) -
Don't get all raga on us.

Yeah, they're heavy as hell. Actually, my Strat (a 1988 Jap-built Squire) is pretty heavy, but nothing approaching a Les Paul. The only Gibson electric that has ever felt good to me has been a 1993 Lucille model that a friend of mine owned. Now, THAT was a sweet guitar!

I know that this song isn't from this album, but Band on the Run stands up next to just about anything in the Beatles' catalog. So, not surprised to say that yes, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is all that. -
GodDAMN I love me some Thin Lizzy!

Oh, it's on my radar and it's next in my queue as the next thing to purchase!

"The saddest of all keys..." But, really, N.T. Day: when it comes down to it, how much more "11" can it be? None. None more "11".

My favorite exchange of the whole movie.

Just watched this vid: And, I was all like: "Awww yeah, I remember THIS song!" It's still a pretty cool song, in that mid-70's, easy listening funk kinda way, but it does not make me want to look into the band any more. As stated, earlier, it's that Jim Ford connection that really piques my interest, so I'm wondering what they have that is a little harder-edged, quirky, and more-fun than the standard Am radio fare. Gonna go listen to more. Any advice is appreciated.

It's the same tack that I take. I have a bunch of albums that I want to listen to today (see the "Now Playing" thread), but YouTube is the plan for if and when I get through these albums. Still, just looking for some thoughts/convo about these guys, if it even seems to be worthwhile.

So, back to Redbone... Anyone?
-
I don't think that was Redbone.

It's the Jim Ford connection that got me looking into these guys (of course). I figure that, if Jim Ford is collaborating with the leader(s) of the band, it's gonna be something worth hearing. Any fans? Suggestions on where to start? Is a compilation good enough, or should I go ahead and buy complete albums? They recorded the original version of "Niki Hokey" and, along with Jim Ford, Lolly Vegas co-wrote one of my favorite songs ever (which it looks like the band did NOT record) -- "Ju Ju Man". So: looking at the disco...

Listening now and am almost all the way through. The liner notes say that this album is 1971, but the sound is more 1968; very typical-sounding psych stuff. I don't mean that in a bad way, just as a matter of fact. So, if you like that kind of space-jazz psych stuff, you will really dig this. mpolak, I'm thinking that you will be one of those who will dig it. Myself, I like this kind of thing when I am in the mood, and I am enjoying this record, but not loving it. The hooks just aren't immediate. But I can see it growing on me with a few more listens. As it is now, I just plain like it. But, i
