  1. Despite this, you can't fuck with Buzz Lightyear.
  2. This past weekend I attended a 50th birthday party for my grammar school, AT my grammar school. Haven't been in that building in nearly 30 years. I saw old classmates that I haven't seen since then. I saw old teachers... Talk about nostalgia!
  3. Forgot that I put this thread here. Just added to it; my purchases since July.
  4. No Robert Johnson either. MASSIVE oversight, by any standards.
  5. Listening to it now and I'm digging it. It reminds me a bit of this album: Pigeonhed - The Full Sentence You familiar with it?
  6. Leave it to Brehmer to impart this little bit of info: The song is about one of the sisters getting way into transcendetntalism, and wanting to go down to Hammond, LA to study with some guru. So, the other 2 are singing to Maggie, I think about not going down to Hammond. Puts new light on the song.
  7. I would put some, but I got none. I know: for shame.

  9. I NEVER hear them on the radio! But this morning, on WXRT in Chicago -- as part of a contest called "Instant Flashback", where you have to be the first to call in and guess the year of a song's release -- the DJ played "The Hammond Song". Being as that I just won this contest a couple of weeks ago, I was not able to call in and guess 1979 (which was correct). But, damn hearing that song on the radio today made my commute! I really wish that the radio played more of those guys. And more Harry Nilsson. And ANY Big Star. And more Son Volt. (They already play a LOT of Wilco.) *sigh*
  10. Dave Matthews too. Especially Dave.
  11. Also had the best albums from Guided by Voices, Auteurs, Luna...
  12. Link to new single here: http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/2011/10/25/guided-by-voices-new-single-by-original-lineup-the-unsinkable-fats-domino/ Dig it!
  13. Used to play this song when I DJed in college. It was one of those that I would CRANK and jump around the booth. And then miss starting the next song when it was done. Oops. Still sounds pretty good. Fun stuff. (Actual song starts at about 1:00) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6kNlGf9M4M
  14. Listening to this one now, and posting about it this morning reminded me that I found it for $1 at the Tower Records import bargain bin back in 1995 or so. Nice find now that it's out of print and selling for as much as $125! Plus, it's just a great collection.
  15. Just posted a thread about a Paul Weller record: a"]http://viachicago.or...le-splinters/. I guess that Weller could probably fit into this category too, though. Huh?
  16. Any of y'all heard this amazing collection of Wild Wood outtakes? Being that WW is my favorite solo Weller album, it is no small thing for me to say that I think that this is just about the equal of that great record. It was hard to find from the outset, and now is damn-near impossible. For those of you not familiar with this era of Paul Weller, he is trying to channel Traffic/Dave Mason/Neil Young, and does a damn good job at it. The production on these records is a good as any record that I have ever heard, ever. AllMusic review: PM for more information.
  17. The 90's were fun. Of course, the fact that I was in my 20s, I'm sure had a little something to so with it. Lots of going to shows -- Super Furry Animals, Stereolab, Flaming Lips, Built to Spill, Neutral Milk Hotel, Apples in Stereo, etc., etc... Lots of eating at expensive restaurants (that I couldn't afford). Lots of generally Bohemian living, with nothing to worry about but myself. Lots of playing out with my bands. And, of course, lots of girls! Yeah, the 90's were fun.
  18. Maybe my favorite album of 2011. Definitely in the top 5. Check out the title track. But, try to listen without watching, because he looks ridiculous.
  19. Recommended for fans of: You Am I Sloan Suede Supergrass' first record
  20. Dan Penn He wasn't really known as a recording artist through most of his career, but he wrote a ton of hits for other folks --- "Cry Like a Baby" (Box Tops), "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" (Aretha Franklin), and "The Dark End of the Street" (James Carr) being the best-known. He did, however, record one solo album in the early 70's and then begin recording and touring in earnest in the 1990s.
