  1. Yeah, they're heavy as hell. Actually, my Strat (a 1988 Jap-built Squire) is pretty heavy, but nothing approaching a Les Paul. The only Gibson electric that has ever felt good to me has been a 1993 Lucille model that a friend of mine owned. Now, THAT was a sweet guitar!
  2. I know that this song isn't from this album, but Band on the Run stands up next to just about anything in the Beatles' catalog. So, not surprised to say that yes, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is all that.
  3. GodDAMN I love me some Thin Lizzy!
  4. Oh, it's on my radar and it's next in my queue as the next thing to purchase!
  5. "The saddest of all keys..." But, really, N.T. Day: when it comes down to it, how much more "11" can it be? None. None more "11".
  6. My favorite exchange of the whole movie.
  7. Just watched this vid: And, I was all like: "Awww yeah, I remember THIS song!" It's still a pretty cool song, in that mid-70's, easy listening funk kinda way, but it does not make me want to look into the band any more. As stated, earlier, it's that Jim Ford connection that really piques my interest, so I'm wondering what they have that is a little harder-edged, quirky, and more-fun than the standard Am radio fare. Gonna go listen to more. Any advice is appreciated.
  8. It's the same tack that I take. I have a bunch of albums that I want to listen to today (see the "Now Playing" thread), but YouTube is the plan for if and when I get through these albums. Still, just looking for some thoughts/convo about these guys, if it even seems to be worthwhile.
  9. So, back to Redbone... Anyone?
  10. I don't think that was Redbone.
  11. It's the Jim Ford connection that got me looking into these guys (of course). I figure that, if Jim Ford is collaborating with the leader(s) of the band, it's gonna be something worth hearing. Any fans? Suggestions on where to start? Is a compilation good enough, or should I go ahead and buy complete albums? They recorded the original version of "Niki Hokey" and, along with Jim Ford, Lolly Vegas co-wrote one of my favorite songs ever (which it looks like the band did NOT record) -- "Ju Ju Man". So: looking at the disco...
  12. Listening now and am almost all the way through. The liner notes say that this album is 1971, but the sound is more 1968; very typical-sounding psych stuff. I don't mean that in a bad way, just as a matter of fact. So, if you like that kind of space-jazz psych stuff, you will really dig this. mpolak, I'm thinking that you will be one of those who will dig it. Myself, I like this kind of thing when I am in the mood, and I am enjoying this record, but not loving it. The hooks just aren't immediate. But I can see it growing on me with a few more listens. As it is now, I just plain like it. But, i
  13. Just criusing the thread and came across this one again. This song was such a guilty pleasure for me. Guilty, at the time, because I was a teenage metalhead and I could not help but love this song. I hid my shame beneath Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Quiet Riot black concert Tees. But I still privately rocked out whenever ABC came on.
  14. Not even close to my first time. In fact, I'm here at this forum because I met Louie and Wendy at a Steve Earle concert that we all won tickets to. It was there that they told me about this forum. So blame them. And WXRT.
  15. Just picked this up today, based upon the fact that it looked like a cool, old Spanish-language psych thing. I was right. Haven't given it a listen yet, but I am planning on doing so when I get in to work tomorrow. Any of y'all heard of these guys? Heard the record? GtrPlyr: I'm looking at you!
  16. This. Although, I think that I like Out of Time more than you. ("Texarkana" is one of my favorite songs of theirs.)

  18. That Gretsch is really pretty. And I love the way they sound. Sadly, I have the same problem with Gretchs that I do with Rickenbackers and Les Pauls -- I've never played one that really FELT good to me. I mean, I can use them for this or that; borrow one from a friend who has one, or something. But, to OWN one? It needs to feel right, and none of those (that I have played) ever have.
  19. WXRT in Chicago. At 5:45 a.m. they have a little contest called "Instant Flashback", where they play a song and you have to guess the year it came out. Due to the time of day, it's usually pretty easy to get through. And, this time, the song was a pretty easy one -- "Girlfriend" by Matthew Sweet. 1991. But, it's usually more obscure.
