It's a great freaking album. Some of the songs sound like (the very best parts of) Hall & Oates. But then, there is stuff like "NYCNY" and some other tunes that totally throw you for a loop. And even the more straightforward stuff has really interesting twists, when you listen closely. I really, really love this album. And it has made me listen to HnO in a different way. Daryl Hall is a truly great singer. I have accepted that now. According to the liner notes, Fripp was going to ask Hall to join King Crimson around the time this was recorded (1977). But then Hall and Oates really took off

Oh, and this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8kLrrZKnNU Those vocals are like the "Hallelujah" chorus to me. Amazing. Chilling. Heart-wrenching. And completely sublimely beautiful. -

It's about time somebody came up with something like this. Now, if they can only figure out a way to sell these things at shows without up-front costs. Anyway, I am using them now and am (so far) happy with what they do and the service they provide. That's why I'm making this post. http://midwestmerch.net Not my company. Not the company of a friend or anyone that I know. Like I said before, I think they do a good job and provide a pretty cool service. Mods: If you feel this thread is too commercial, please delete. Thanks.

Mark Caputo from Bellville and Al Chan from the Roobinos doing mostly covers, and a couple of originals. http://www.yepsongs.com/ Stunningly performed and produced. A really, really gorgeous album that I think most of you Wilco heads will dig a lot. (Hell, one of the covers is "Hesitating Beauty" from the Wilco/Bragg/Guthrie project). Lest you doubt me, here is their take on "Waterloo Sunset". What could have been sacrelige, instead, led me to hearing one of my all-time favorite songs in a whole new way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uABnKRPHMVk&feature=player_embedded#at=16 Sorry if

Brinsley Schwarz - "Home in My Hand" The build-up is great and only serves to make me go even more nuts when the thing finally kicks in, full-bore. Freaking great cover of a Ronnie Self song by the great Brinsley Schwarz, one of the best bands ever. And, sounds like one of the best live bands; I just wish I was old enough to see them live at their peak.

This one just arrived, and it's pretty damn good in a very classic country sort of way: Oh, and it is a 2011 release.

Material re-Issue: International Pop Overthrow books a reunion of the band that started it all Jim Ellison and I had a couple of mutual friends, and I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times. He was incredible sweet and gracious those couple of times and his death hit me pretty hard, as celebrity deaths go. Phil Angotti and I also have a couple of mutual friends, and we've shared a couple of bills, so I can say that I know him a bit better than I knew Jim, although I still can't say that I know him terribly well. But I do know him well-enough to know that this is one of those reunio

Most Beautiful Songs that Break Your Heart

I have a hard time singing the final verse of "A Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues. Seriously, whenever I try to sing the damn thing, whenever I get to the line, "I kept them with me, babe/I packed them with my own/Can't Make it out alone/I built my dreams around you" I get a lump in my throat that is hard to sing around. Blocks any sound that tries to come out, and I just end up with a couple of little sobs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv0hlbWpa1w Okay, so maybe it's not the heartbreak that brings the lump to my throat, but the unabashed, left field sweetness of it all. Still, a very re -

Flying Burrito Brothers - Hot Burrito #1 (I'm Your Toy) Velvet Underground - I'll Be Your Mirror And, mostly, this one: Jason Isbell - Dress Blues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJb1_EGnapY that is what songwriting is all about. Jeezus, I'm sitting here listening, watching, and sniffling like a baby.
