  1. I read this at another site. It's fucking horrible. RIP.
  2. I hate to be one to contribute to the "they were better when they were stoned" mentality. But yeah, in this case, they really were.
  3. They haven't been so good since they got clean, anyway. What is that? 20 years? 25 years? Still, good for them for cashing in; they deserved it. And now, they'll live to enjoy it.
  4. Seriously. My label is no longer investing in pressing of CDs; he claims that it's throwing money into the fire. A waste. I mean, I'll be available on iTunes and eMusic, but personally, as a musician, if I don't have that physical document in my hand, I feel like my time in the studio has been something of a waste. And I cannot afford to press vinyl LPs. That's for sure. So... my new album will be a (very) short run -- of 500 -- that I'll be paying for, myself. The label will be helping me with distribution, logistics, and promotion. Plus, I'll have the clout of being associated with an es
  5. Big Star - #1 Record/Radio City Willie Nelson - Red-Headed Stranger Otis Redding - The Very Best of... My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
  6. Oh, I can't see any YouTube at work. But, I'm sure it's hokey. Still, I'd rather listen to The Barber than to Dave Matthews any day of the week.
  7. I am seriously considering picking up this collection: I mean, I know that he's pretty hokey. But, a lot of these songs are a lot of fun, even after hearing them hundreds of times. Check it out: Are there any fans here? Or am I now the object of (more) ridicule?
  8. Steve Ison - The Stars Are Never Really Distant Gram Parsons - GP/Grievous Angel various artists - Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye: A Tribute to Roky Erickson The Pogues - Peace and Love Eddy Davis & The New York Jazz Ensemble - The Bunk Project
  9. I haven't heard the Cocktails or the Tortise boxes. Looks like I gots me some spendin' to do!
  10. Just saw this link and had to post it. One of the greatest, most confounding covers I've ever heard: "You Can't Do That" From his first album.
  11. Only stuff with (mostly) unreleased stuff qualify. So the Pavement reissues don't qualify (although with all the bonus stuff, they come damn close) My top ones: Shrimp Boat - Something Grand (box set) Brinsley Schwarz - Cruel To Be Kind (live at the BBC) Jim Ford - The Sounds of Our Time Jim Ford - Point of No Return The Birmingham Sound: The Soul of Neil Hemphill, Vol. 1 more to come, I'm sure...

  14. Just mindlessly trying to come up with random band names, when I came up with "Fatal Charm". It sounded a little too familiar, so I looked it up and, of course, it was already the name of a band. Then I checked out this review at AllMusic of their album Endangered Species: And now I want it. Of course, it's out-of-print. I'm looking to you, VC.
  15. For some reason this thread reminded me of this Drive By Truckers song: Three Alabama Icons
  16. Good post, Neon. And, my heart is with you. I can respect the beliefs of others, up to the point where they infringe upon the basic rights of others. Sadly, dogmatic hate mongering will most-likely never completely go away. But I do believe, like you, that we will eventually extend basic freedoms to everybody in this country. Also, I believe that, if challenged in the highest courts, eventually the laws banning gay marriage/unions will be struck down under the Civil Rights acts.
  17. Terence Trent D'Arby - Symphony or Damn Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline Caetano Veloso - Veló The Wonder Stuff - Never Loved Elvis
  18. Just heard these guys at this site that I frequent (IACMusic.com), and I think that they deserve your ear: Strippop An Italian band that reminds me a lot of James' work with Eno in the 90's. I like it a lot. It's only 2 songs, but I am curious to hear more. Curious to know what y'all think, too.
  19. The Chamber Strings - Gospel Morning Yardbirds - Roger the Engineer Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson Ween - Quebec Sly & The Family Stone - Fresh
  20. This one always makes me hurt deep inside; an existential, very visceral sort of pain that somehow still feeds my soul: Lindsay was my first love she was in my class I would have loved to take her out but I was too shy to ask The fullness of my feeling was never made clear but I send her my love with a bang on the ear Nora was my girl when I first was in a group I can still see her to this day, stirring chicken soup Now she's living in Australia working for an auctioneer but I send her my love with a bang on the ear Deborah broke my heart and I the willing fool I fell for her one summer
  21. I bought them, and just gave them a first listen. Both are pretty much just Martin, all by himself with an acoustic guitar, playing some pretty good folky BritPop. Melody is king, as always; and I like it like that!
  22. Martin Newell - E.P. 2 Martin Newell - A Rogue Shower EP
