I am seriously considering picking up this collection: I mean, I know that he's pretty hokey. But, a lot of these songs are a lot of fun, even after hearing them hundreds of times. Check it out: Are there any fans here? Or am I now the object of (more) ridicule?

Just saw this link and had to post it. One of the greatest, most confounding covers I've ever heard: "You Can't Do That" From his first album.

Only stuff with (mostly) unreleased stuff qualify. So the Pavement reissues don't qualify (although with all the bonus stuff, they come damn close) My top ones: Shrimp Boat - Something Grand (box set) Brinsley Schwarz - Cruel To Be Kind (live at the BBC) Jim Ford - The Sounds of Our Time Jim Ford - Point of No Return The Birmingham Sound: The Soul of Neil Hemphill, Vol. 1 more to come, I'm sure... -
I'll try to post my top 20 (or so). And, in no real order: Joe Pisapia - Daydreams Tom Zé - Estuando o Pagode Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It Arcade Fire - Funeral The Format - Dog Problems Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You... Webb Brothers - Maroon Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago Tom Zé - Danç Eh Sa Cornershop - Judy Sucks a Lemon For Breakfast Def Leppard - YEAH! Happy Ashtray - Weathervane King Khan

Just mindlessly trying to come up with random band names, when I came up with "Fatal Charm". It sounded a little too familiar, so I looked it up and, of course, it was already the name of a band. Then I checked out this review at AllMusic of their album Endangered Species: And now I want it. Of course, it's out-of-print. I'm looking to you, VC.

For some reason this thread reminded me of this Drive By Truckers song: Three Alabama Icons

Another victory for the forces of evil
PopTodd replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Good post, Neon. And, my heart is with you. I can respect the beliefs of others, up to the point where they infringe upon the basic rights of others. Sadly, dogmatic hate mongering will most-likely never completely go away. But I do believe, like you, that we will eventually extend basic freedoms to everybody in this country. Also, I believe that, if challenged in the highest courts, eventually the laws banning gay marriage/unions will be struck down under the Civil Rights acts. -

Just heard these guys at this site that I frequent (IACMusic.com), and I think that they deserve your ear: Strippop An Italian band that reminds me a lot of James' work with Eno in the 90's. I like it a lot. It's only 2 songs, but I am curious to hear more. Curious to know what y'all think, too.

This one always makes me hurt deep inside; an existential, very visceral sort of pain that somehow still feeds my soul: Lindsay was my first love she was in my class I would have loved to take her out but I was too shy to ask The fullness of my feeling was never made clear but I send her my love with a bang on the ear Nora was my girl when I first was in a group I can still see her to this day, stirring chicken soup Now she's living in Australia working for an auctioneer but I send her my love with a bang on the ear Deborah broke my heart and I the willing fool I fell for her one summer

Martin Newell - new EPs (and now an LP!) available for DL
PopTodd replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
I bought them, and just gave them a first listen. Both are pretty much just Martin, all by himself with an acoustic guitar, playing some pretty good folky BritPop. Melody is king, as always; and I like it like that! -

Do you mean "1993"? If so... I was at that show!

The way the Bears played yesterday, they would have lost by 24 instead of winning by that margin, if had played an actual NFL team.

Thanks bro~ And please know that the criticism that I leveled at your tunes was only because, well... you asked for it! Seriously, I do like the tunes and I think that they will grow on me even more. I just know that, as a musician myself, I'd rather have an honest critique than a dishonest butt kissing. Thanks for sending it out. Looking forward to digging in even more!
