  1. Caetano Veloso - CirculadĂ´ Urge Overkill - Supersonic Storybook The Dukes of Stratosphear - Chips From the Chocolate Fireball Jarvis Cocker - Further Complications The Hollies - 30th Anniversary Collection
  2. Gene Clark was the best songwriter The Byrds ever had, not Roger McGwinn; not even Gram Parsons. (and, speaking of The Byrds): David Crosby has been the weak link in more great bands than anyone in rock history.
  3. Listened to the samples and I liked it a lot. Sounds a lot like Songs: Ohia or The Magnolia Electric Company, with little flecks of Wilco thrown in for good measure. I'm thinking that I'm gonna buy this sometime soon. Keep reminding me or I may forget to do so! Nice.
  4. Toots and the Maytalls are better than Bob Marley and the Wailers.
  5. 1. Joe Jackson's "Breaking Us in Two" is the best song of the 1980s Could be. But I think it's probably "Fall On Me". 2. Paul McCartnery never wrote a good song after the Beatles broke up (Jenny Wren is close). Four words: Band On the Run (the entire album, I mean!) 3. Les Paul is (was RIP) the most important music figure of the 20th century Completely agree. 4. Fionna Apple is the most under-rated female artist of her generation. This could be true. 5. AC/DC sucks Intermittently true. 6. Terrestial radio sucks (how many times can they recycle those same dozen classic rock songs? My
  6. Although I love Caetano Veloso, Tom ZĂ© is an immeasurably more interesting artist than Caetano.
  7. Just bought this album for $0.21 (+ shipping): I love Frevo Rasgado, but this sounds like a totally different album. Any of you have it? What can I expect? AllMusic review sounds pretty good:
  8. And many other kinds of love. Lammy... that was my exact experience with the Pups and that album. I will always and forever love that band.
  9. Jesus Because, you know, he would be really cool to hang out with. And if any of us got sick, he could just, like, lay his hands on us and stuff... Johnny Depp I have to admit to my man-crush on this guy. He seems to be super-cool and have some cool interests, as well as being something of a level-headed freak and whatnot. That's cool and fun. although, he might get in the way of me gettin' it on with: Janet Beveridge Bean Gotta have a hot drummer. And she's both hotter and a better drummer than Meg White. Plus, she can sing. Angelina Jolie Supernaturally beautiful. Plus, if you haven'
  10. I think that they are the ones that put out the Jim Ford retrospectives that I love so much.
  11. I didn't include UT because their debut came out at the VERY END of 1989, so I wouldn't count them as an "80's" band at all. Although, if you lived in the StL area, you probably had the chance to see them live many times between '87 and '90, so for you they might be.
  12. I was in college in the late 80's and early 90's. That was when I (musically) came of age and all that, so this seems like a perfectly logical poll for me to underwrite. Now, I know that my choice will probably be the last-place choice, so let me explain: Meat Puppets were my "gateway" band; they were the first band that I listened to that weren't played on ANY commercial radio station. At least they weren't until long after I had started listening to them. And when "Backwater" finally got them some airplay in '94 or whatever, I was pretty psyched for them. Sadly, that went nowhere... a one
  13. Emitt Rhodes' self-titled is heads and shoulders above Paul McCartney's self-titled. In fact, I'd say that the Emitt record is everything the McCartney record should have been, but wasn't. (Is that blasphemy, or is it just as obvious as I think it is?)
  14. Camper Van Beethoven - Telephone-Free Landslide Victory Thelonious Monk - The Best of the Blue Note Years Sybris - Into the Trees Eels - Electro-Shock Blues Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island
  15. Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson - Rattlin' Bones
  16. This is something that my wife posted on my Facebook page that makes me real proud: "Here is a Veteran's Day story for you that I told my friend Wendy....Two days ago I was at Corner Bakery with my 10 year old son having a meal, and there was a serviceman there in full uniform. My 10 year old went over to his table and said "I just want to thank you, sir, for serving our country and everything that you have done" and it brought tears to my eyes. The man was really touched. Then my 10 year old said to me, "Dad always does that, so I wanted to do it too." I thought that was a nice Veteran's da
  17. Hey Noah, I went over to check it out, but there are no samples over there at CD Baby. You need to get some up there!
  18. I am certainly going to check it out. And I second the cover comment. Congratulations on the release!
  19. I'm playing it by ear today. So, first:
  20. The Beatles - White Album Tom Ze - Estuando a Samba Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea Toots and the Maytalls - Funky Kingston (US) Hop On Pop - Chicken On a Bicycle (you don't think that I'm gonna leave myself behind, do you?)
  21. How many does it hold? And where did you get it? And how much is it?
  22. Kiss is a bit of a joke, methinks. More of a marketing strategy than a band; or at least in equal parts. Aerosmith, once upon a time, were a great rock band. Maybe not as good as Thin Lizzy, but certainly in the same league. Kiss... not so much.
