  1. LINK I own #1: YES! And I stupidly let #4 slip away from me when I was in college: I really miss that Traynor. But I wanted a foot-switchable overdrive channel at the time, and gave it up to have that. This thread is mostly just to post pics of cool amps. I'm not a true gear-head, but I do drool over gear, all the same.
  2. Heard this when I was in a record store up in Traverse City last week. Sounded excellent and we wound up buying their first album as a result. (Neither me nor my wife had ever heard them before and we both loved it.) We'll probably buy the new one when we can. EDIT: Downloaded both songs available at their site. (Yeah, there's 2 available now.)
  3. Dire Straits - Dire Straits Jim Ford - The Sounds of Our Time The Chamber Strings - A Month Of Sundays Paul McCartney & Wings - Band On the Run Little Edi - 21 Songs
  4. After a second listen, I'm thinking that it really is.
  5. Isobell Campbell? Not really an a capella beginning, but pretty close. And even if it's not the exact song, it's a pretty good one!!! Mindy Smith - "Come To Jesus"? Again, not exactly like your description, except that it mentions Jesus a lot. And it's also a pretty great tune.
  6. Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking Eleventh Dream Day - Zeroes and Ones Tom Zé - Danç-Éh-Sá The Judy's - Washarama Brian Wilson - SMiLE
  7. Glad that I could turn somebody on to that record. And I'm equally glad that it didn't disappoint.
  8. He's good enough, he's smart enough; and, doggone it, people LIKE him!
  9. Okay, so JFF recommended this album to me: Here are my impressions after a couple of listens: The songwriting, itself is not immediately grabbing me. But on this (my second) listen, I am enjoying it more than the first time around. I can hear how it is a bit of a subtle record and how it will grow on me. The sound of it is absolutely 90's College Radio. Not commercial "Alternative", but exactly what I used to hear on the left of the dial back around 95 to 98. There is a DIY vibe with some interesting chord voicings and appropriately, half-mumbled, (barely) out-of-key vocals. Hints of early
  10. I watched The Muppet Show with my kids last night, and they were the guests on the episode that we saw; the last episode of season one. SO FREAKING COOL!!! Here's a YouTube link: (YouTube is blocked here at work, so I'm not sure which clip this is... hopefully it's either the notepad flirting, or the clay faces. Let me know, please.) Never really thought about it before, but they were pretty much the precursor to The Blue Man Group. And, I guess that they're still around and still performing: www.mummenschanz.com Cool.
  11. ANTI Records Sampler (Winter, 2007) The Best of the Johnny Cash Show (1969 - 1971) Shrimp Boat - Speckly Butterflies - Butterflies John Cale - The Island Years
  12. Just a place for us to post our thoughts about things that we listened to at the urging of our fellow VCers. Really, just a place to answer these three questions: What did you get? Who suggested it to you? What do you think of it? And then, of course, add any other commentary that you might want to add; a "thank you", "screw you", "I'm going to kill you for this!", or anything else like that. I hope that this will be stickied to the top of the forum, as a handy little reference tool for the board. I'll be posting something here pretty soon -- as soon as I digest this album.
  13. My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves Butterflies - Butterflies I gotta get my hands on a copy of that.
  14. Just arrived! Hopefully I'll get to give it a listen today. I'll give you my impressions once I get to listen.
  15. Can't believe that I missed this one: Webb Brothers - Maroon Only one of my favorite albums of the '00s!
  16. Yeah, it is loud! But I only play it occasionally. It helps, when I'm in a musical rut, to pick up a different instrument. And, if that instrument sounds as different as a resonator does, that just adds to the inspiration. Also, I did record with it already... on a fluke. The song is a pretty straight-up indie pop song (kinda), and I had this big, fat Weezer distortion thing happening. I wanted to come out of it with a guitar hook, and decided to play that hook on the resonator. Good choice. It's good to have that option.
  17. Michael Jackson died back in '07, as you can plainly see: HERE IS THE SITE
  18. Los Lobos - Kiko Sun Ra - Supersonic Jazz Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power The Breeders - Pod And, given some time, I may get to listen to my DL of: Léo Lago - Deus e o Diablo no Reino do Lago (free download HERE)
  19. Ooooh, I haven't listened to that one in a long time. Great album.
  20. I've just been hearing talk about her. I heard a couple of :15 samples over at AllMusic, and I like them. But, obviously, that ain't gonna give me the whole story. I do know that she was in Glenn Branca's guitar orchestra (where Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo met) and was also a part of Camera Obscura (right?). Tell me more, please. I'm intrigued.
  21. Then, do not DL the record. It's pretty much a lot more weirdness like that.
  22. Whaddya think? Did you hear the one song that I posted the link to, or did you brave the entire new album? I'm listening to the new record now, and am really digging it. Very odd... like a Brazilian Zappa.
  23. I changed my name, as a tribute.
