That was actually the first version that I ever heard. Then I searched out the original and was blown away all over again. I also covered it (solo/acoustic) at a Gene Clark tribute show here in Chicago a few years ago. (Gene's brother and Carla Olsen were both also on the bill... a pretty thrilling night for me to be able to play that song -- and "Here Without You" -- for folks so close to the man, himself.) But yeah, it is an overlooked gem.

Great, highly overlooked album.

I have recently become obsessed with Nilsson. And, as I only own a few of his albums, this is my own selfish way of finding out which are the ones that I need to get (next -- because I am going to get them all eventually). So, of what I've heard so far, I'd rank them: Son Of Schmilsson Nilsson Schmilsson Pandemonium Shadow Show Aerial Ballet The Point Pandemonium Aerial Ballet and that's all that I own. Now, rank and discuss, please.

Speaking of Coltrane... I also remember reading that Roger McGuinn's guitar part on "Eight Miles High" was inspired by Coltrane. He said that he was trying to approximate the sound of the clacking valves on a saxophone with the way he attacked the strings on his 12-string, especially during that fast part after the main melody during the guitar motif. -
I am a fan. And they are not coming to Chicago. Damn(ed)!

Is it worth ponying up the extra cash for the remaster? I don't have a great stereo system (just a CD boom box, and my car stereo), so is the sound that much better on the CD remaster and are the extras on the DVD (are there any?) so great that I should pay twice the price?

Just got an email from a fellow music geek friend the other day, extolling the virtues of this record. It's not his usual kind of thing, and he admits as much. At the same time, he calls it a "masterpiece". Just looking for other thoughts/discussion about Graham's solo output. Whaddya think of it, and of this record, in particular?

Agreed. And the interview came out about the same time as that album -- in Guitar Player Magazine. (Actually, reading that very article is what gave me the notion to check out music outside of the mainstream, in the first place!) -

I once read an interview with Kurt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets) where he extolled the virtues of: ZZ Top Said that Billy Gibbons was one of his favorite guitar players. Don't remember any specific songs, but I thought that one was interesting. -

I don't generally play gigs. But I did look to see if any of my friends were playing that week and, I see none so far. (I do have friends playing on the 19th, though, if you get in early.)

I am. And, that's cool that you are. The mods have to set it up first. Then, you add albums that you'd like to see rated by the rest of us, and rate albums added by others. Makes for a permanent, rolling, editable VC "top albums" chart.

I have grade school-age kids, and I have to admit that I love watching iCarly with them. Funny show with no "adult jokes" above the kids' heads like a lot of "smart" kids' shows. Just silliness that we all enjoy. And please, let's keep pedophile jokes out of this.
