Made the title in the first post into a link. You may now DL at will, if that is, in fact, okay to do so.

Welcome the newest member of Muzak Nation:

Social Distortion. (See topic subhead.) -
I was at my local Whole Foods and, much to my surprise, "Ball and Chain" came across the Muzak channel, loud and clear. Well, not too loud, of course, because that would bother the customers. It was simultaneously wonderful and awful. But the best part of it was watching this 50-something Hinsdale woman (Hinsdale is a very wealthy, WASP-y community in the West Suburbs of Chicago) doing an absentminded little shuffle in front of the organic granola, and twirling her $300 sunglasses. And this is after hearing "Blitzkreig Bop" over the Walgreens Muzak system a year or so ago. Punk is the ne

Charred baby octopus is delicious. Although this wasn't the best I've had of that dish. That honor would belong to Boca De Le Verite in Lincoln Square here in Chicago.

Yeah. I just bought the '05 or whatever re-release. Jeez.

These are all restauranteurs and foodies who are focused on ingredients, technique, and flavor combinations, not veg-friendly lifestyles. But yeah, you are right. It would be nice if they had an award specifically for vegetarian chefs. Althought I don't know if there are enough of them out there (particularly in fine dining, where this is focused) to merit such distinction. Looks like you'd just have to keep slugging back the wine, champagne, and cocktails. And yeah, between this, the concert tickets, my MS, and the brain surgery...

My friend Josh was honored as the "Rising Star" sommelier and invited me to be there, as his guest. Very posh and a lot of fun! T'was a cocktail party-like reception, with each of the honoured chefs set up at a different station, offering 2 small plates each. Here are those offerings:

Who's a better songwriter (Let's make it interesting):

I'm just thinking that Davies is (of course, since I started this thing), pound-for-pound, the best pure songwriter of the bunch. •Waterloo Sunset •Two Sisters •Sunny Afternoon •Oklahoma, USA •Picture Book and, yes •Lola and •You Really Got Me And dozens more are so freaking amazing that they bring me to tears, as much for the quality of the craft as for the emotional content of the song. -

I'll add a choice for you, as long as it's still Beatles/Kinks. But please, do NOT ask me to add Dave Davies to the poll. -

Now, please keep in mind that this poll is asking about PURE SONGWRITING. Not innovative production methods. Not influence on popular culture. PURE SONGWRITING. JUST THE SONG, ALONE, BY ITSELF (I think that this is a more interesting choice and one that is a bit more fair to all parties involved.) -

NURTURE MY PIG!!!

Seriously. I saw him on that tour, in Chicago, and some folks walked the pig around the stadium, and then outside the pavilion. And I saw it fly away. I thought that was planned. Was that NOT planned? Did I witness The Pig Flying the Coop? Cool.

Not sure if it looks good cheesy or bad cheezy, but it is certainly cheesy/cheezy. Especially with the 70's-like funk soundtrack. http://www.theturtlefilm.com/Trailer2.html My old roommate is the bald guy.
