  1. Thin Lizzy is one of the 5 greatest bands in the history of rock and roll. Up there with the Beatles and the Stones.
  2. now playing: Paul Weller - Days Of Speed
  3. Paul Weller - Days Of Speed (live) Big Star - Third (Sister Lovers) Roky Erickson - Don't Slander Me The Band - Music From Big Pink
  4. And a buddy of mine swears up and down that "Against All Odds" would make a great punk song. I say, "meh."
  5. So... ANYONE familiar with/a fan of this record? Ever even hear of it? It's Jimmy Webb's kids, and they do their daddy proud. Wow.
  6. $3.75 on average in the Chicago 'burbs. More in the city.
  7. Rush is "The Band With No Soul". I believe that each and every member of that band sold their soul to be able to play as well as they do. And that would explain why the music is so soulless.
  8. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Ultimate Collection Spoon - Girls Can Tell Sly & The Family Stone - There's A Riot Goin' On Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
  9. Maybe. He owned a bar down there and also a bi-weekly local music rag, in addition to being in a couple of bands, himself.
  10. HA! I've seen that one before. Perfect.
  11. What about 'em? Good? Bad? Sound like?
  12. I work with a guy who seems to have been a pretty big part of it, and I'm curious to know more about it and see if anyone else here knows much about it. Strange way to start a topic, I know, but...
  13. The lyrics to "Liar's Club" totally and completely evoke (for me) the time, immediately following college graduation, when my friends and I would hit the bars, looking for fun, women, and just good times. We thought it was everything that life was supposed to be and was going to be. And then, reality hit as hard as this song. If that was the only song on the album, it would be enough. But the damn thing keeps going on just as strong. For 45 minutes or so. So, so great. Have they done anything else recently?
  14. Merle Haggard - "Mama Tried" The first thing I remember knowing, Was a lonesome whistle blowing, And a young un's dream of growing up to ride; On a freight train leaving town, Not knowing where I'm bound, No-one could change my mind but Mama tried. One and only rebel child, From a family, meek and mild: My Mama seemed to know what lay in store. Despite all my Sunday learning, Towards the bad, I kept on turning. 'Til Mama couldn't hold me anymore. And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole. No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried. Mama tried to raise me bett
  15. Oooh. Saw him and Julie open for Steve Earle back about 10 years ago, or so. Great performer!
  16. "6 A.M. Juliander Shere" and "7:20 A.M. Juliander Shere" from Cornershop - Woman's Gotta Have It
  17. My wife is at least as much of a music freak as I am. She is always listening to something and, I have no difficulty turning her on to new music -- completely open-minded. Also -- and it's been a rarity with other gals I've been with -- she's turned me on to several bands that have become favorites. I love her to death and it's cool that we can share a passion like this. You?
  18. The original (Brinsley Schwarz) version of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding?" is superior to the more-famous Elvis Costello version.
  19. This is TONIGHT, if any of y'all can make it. You can stone me there, for the self-promo.
  20. I have seen Jojo 5 times (maybe 6?) and he has never been anything less than outstanding. One of the best performers, ever.
  21. Wilco. I love 'em, but if I hear Summerteeth one more time, I'm gonna scream. And that used to be my favorite Wilco album.
