  1. Louie Armstrong - What a Wonderful World
  2. King Khan & The Shrines - What Is?! think: The Stooges get signed by Motown and then trip acid with Syd Barrett.
  3. I also have this "bootleg" vinyl compilation of OLD Parliment singles. The picture of the band on the cover, they looked so clean-cut, like this: Most of the songs made it on to the Osmium album (some of them in different recordings), but some of them didn't. The original version of "Testify" is a barn-burner. And you bet your ass I played that thing!!!
  4. That was going to be my exact suggestion. Damn. Or, maybe if that's been overdone, you could compare: The Autobiography Of Malcolm X and The Autobiography Of Fredrick Douglas: An American Slave
  5. Oh, I also have a test-pressing of some late-period Benny Goodman record on Chess Records. It's multi-colored vinyl and pretty swank-looking. Can't remember the name of the album, but my mom's family was friends with the Chesses in the 50's when they lived on the South Side, so she got it from them.
  6. Original vinyl of: Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat (MGM) Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (MGM) Velvet Underground - Loaded (Cotillion) Emmitt Rhodes - Emmitt Rhodes (Dunhill) At least, I think that they're rare. Not really a collector, so I'm not too hip on that. I just like the music.
  7. Saturday is the date and, what I'm looking to every bit as much as the actual recording is gettin' some Chicken Vesuvio from Villa Palermo, just up the street!
  8. The Replacements - All Shook Down Gang Of Four - Entertainment! Aimee Mann - Whatever Shrimp Boat - Duende David Bowie - The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars
  9. Celine Dion - The Colour Of My Love Barbara Streisand - The Way We Were Barry Manilow - This One's For You Black Sabbath - Paranoid
  10. "Disco Duck" - Rick Dees "The Future's So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)" - Timbuk 3 "Sunglasses At Night" - Cory Hart
  11. As far as pure sound: the entirety of Shellac - At Action Park sounds freaking amazing. Like the band is there, in the room with you. Especially if you've heard the vinyl. Also (again, sorry about the full-album instead of single tracks): Paul Weller - Wild Wood Is magnificent-sounding.
  12. I own it. And yes, I am a big, big Daniel Johnston fan. As to the topic at-hand, Conor Oberst does have a couple of pretty amazing songs, but the bulk of what I've heard is not even close to the best of what he's done.
  13. Some of the tones on Wild Wood are pretty spectacular, too.
  14. Son Volt - The Search Papas Fritas - Buildings & Grounds The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots T. Rex - The Slider Os Mutantes - Mutantes
  15. Brinsley Schwarz Perfect. Tele. Tone. Check out his tone on "Dry Land".
  16. Melanie - "Brand-New Key" Vicki Lawrence - "The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia"
  17. Sounds to me by your descriptions that you may be in the mood for something like this: Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I Complex rhythms, but near-emo lyrics. Please don't let that turn you off, though. There's a lot more to this record than whining. Actually, I never even feel like there is any whining on here. Just loud-ass, rock-your-face-off rock. With complex rhythmic structures and great musicianship all over the place.
  18. I posted this picture (and another of Shane) on my kids' bathroom mirror, with the caption: BRUSH GOOD, OR ELSE!!! Just to make sure. It seems to be working.
  19. This season's American Idol winner is going to be the best ever!!!
  20. Apologies, but the first one that comes to my mind is: "And To Think..." also: "Look! No Strings!" - Chumbawumba "Can You Picture That?" - Dr. Teeth & The electric Mayhem
  21. I have been reading the thread. But not all of it. Too many words for the royal eye.
  22. The Knack - "My Sharona" (Yeah, you could say "Good Girls Don't" might disqualify them, but it wasn't even close to the first song in popularity.)
  23. Mungo Jerry - "In the Summertime"
